Marketing and consumerism. Let millenials buy thousands of dollars of gear to play pretend soldier at 2gun matches and in their basements just in case something ever happens. In which case they'll get clapped by a boomer with a scoped bolt-action.

This but in a good way. Accessories are a huge rabbit hole of a market. But that’s good. Anyone can join by putting out shit tier products that improve in time. Let’s first time gun owners buy cheap products then decide if they want to continue the hobby and buy better ones later. Having a fuck ton of options on products is always a good thing.

Consumerism posters hit the nail on the head. Coupled HEAVILY with the fact that the government doesn't care anymore. They moved on to drones and smart munitions, so you playing SEAL concerns them as much as you playing knight's templar. This opened up the market and increased the number of influencers.

Also, actual training is tedious, expensive, and arguably boring if you are actually training and not just playing around. Thus people choose to buy.

Training regularly is more expensive than having a large collection. If you are not firing 200 rounds in your training session, what are you even doing. It's also expensive in terms of time, because you have to go clean your shit, wash your lead-dust clothing, and shower.

It's like a fucking workout session, except working out actually has universal benefits. Really have to be dedicated to "train". So you conflating "cheap" and "trained" is completed delusional.

if two people are equally skilled, the person with the better gear will perform better
a skilled person can perform better than an unskilled person, even if they have worse gear
a skilled person with good gear will perform the best
            it's not hard to understand

People with good skills can afford to equip themselves with modern gear. People too poor to train to the fullest cannot.
Hence good gear doesn't prove good skill, but lacking proves bad skill.

disposable income is correlated with level of quality gear
skill is correlated with range time
disposable income is somewhat correlated with range time

richfags can afford good gear and range time. this doesn't mean they actually shoot often. poorfags can save money on a rifle and spend more on ammo then they otherwise could. this doesn't mean they actually shoot often.

I have a life and other hobbies outside of gun ownership. 80% of my money in this hobby has been in buying ammo so I can fuck around at the range and have FUN, blowing shit away and exploding watermelons

I don't need a $4000 Ar with all the bullshit accessories. The only "nice" gun I own is a model 94 100th anniversary edition, that I didn't even buy but inherited. Every other gun I have I use, like my carry pistols or my cheap ass WASR10

go fuck yourself, you can't buy skill by adding on a $1200 optic and $500 gun light

to be fair, they most likely are nowhere near the front and issued mosins to free up rifles for the front line
I would still rather shoot a Mosin PU versus an AR because garbage rods are fun

retards believe tropes in fiction correllate to real life. I've seen stereotypical 1911 boomers at IDPA matches, they're just as much of a mixed bag as the 20-30yr old hype beast shooter.

people need to realize that skill/wisdom does not increase just because you get older. if you spend your whole life doing the same shit over and over without thinking you can be 60yrs old and still be a doofus.

It doesn’t. It’s a big share of the lower end market, though. Especially in the US. Playing DEVGRU is the current year version of cowboy/indian play. The reasons are diverse and beyond the scope of this board.
Tacticool gadgets are overrepresented here because of board demographics. Same goes for most other social media. People that are in the market for 10k+ shotguns or big game rifles are not browsing social media for reviews.
