Why do you suppose tunneling never become popular with the prepper community?

My guess is that you can't buy a tunnel but I'm open to other theories.

Preppers are Marjority obese boomers with chronic back pain that couldn’t run a mile. So there’s your anwser right there. They’re going to have a stroke after 3 days of eating freeze dried starchy sodium in any kind of real event

If I had secret unnaground stuff, I wouldn't talk about it. I suspect others are the same way.

ofc, there would at least be some stuff, there's a vocal minority for every subculture. Colin Furze's tunnel vids are the only ones I know of off the top of my head.

I personally don't have a tunnel because Eastern NC is like, 10 feet above the water table at most.

      You absolutely can, bro.
I've got a sex dungeon/fallout shelter that extends out under the lawn and then a small exit tunnel that extends from that into the shed.
Excavation costs aren't negligible but if you do it as part of the construction process during a new build then they're not prohibitive.

      >If I had secret unnaground stuff, I wouldn't talk about it. I suspect others are the same way.
I'm behind 7 proxies, but yeah, I wouldn't talk about it on anything but an anonymous basket-weaving forum.

Because tunneling is really fucking hard and requires a shit ton of labor and time, not even getting into the actual engineering knowledge you need so the tunnel you dig doesn't collapse immediately after you dig it.

The vast majority of illegal gold miners just break into abandoned mines where all the major work has already been done.

    Tunneling is hard

VCs and Middle Easterners were able to dig deep because they had manpower

Your average prepper is out of shape and will quit after digging a shallow grave

Those with deep pockets who can rent even a small backhoe will get hit with lawsuits

I wager those who live in rural areas may have an underground bunker or two that their older family dug over the years

you can and the preppers that can afford it do. the rest of us don't want to spend every evening and weekend of our lives digging a 50 foot hole to nowhere in our back yards

And yet, you posted an image that would be an ideal tunneling situation. The wine cellar is cute, but if it's living quarters & other supply storage, a prepper would definitely want his sub-cellars connected with tunnels.

A 50 foot tunnel into the backyard can also terminate in a food/ammo cache. That's not necessarily "nowhere."

More the city comes in and fucking fines your dumb ass because you don’t technically own the land, which would probably be the case for 99% of these retards

        Anonymous

Depends if you follow the construction bylaws. Everywhere is different. Meaning you don't own the land means you don't own the underground ressources, not that you can't build underground. But local jurisdictions have a specific limit and it can be basically " you just get enough to build foundations and what's necessary for living usage".
The city might however fine you for unlicensed work tho.

I think that's the point. Dude was a massive fucking psycho. Its not the S&M stuff that got him off, it was his partner losing their shit and starting to panic.
When you first start the vid its like
        > "Oh old perverts being kinky, that's nice"
But then you notice the amount of effort put into it and it becomes creepy real fucking fast.
Then you go read the dude's wiki and realize he wasn't just an old perv he was a psycho that got lucky he never "accidentally" offed someone.

At the very least you should set up some dead man switch that'll message someone to let them know that there's a prostitute buried in your living room if you have a sudden heart attack or something.

It's probably not legal to dig tunnels that extend outside your property, so the people who do that don't brag about it.
Like having booby traps in your house. I'm sure some people do, but they're paranoid enough to keep a secret.
