Why do Russians still wear these old helmets when much lighter, cooler, and safer products are widely available, even on the civilian market?

Idiot. These helmets are better than nato helmet. No extra tech to break and make your aircraft not fly. Russian jets are robust unlike american jets wich only stay in the hangar.
Yes comrade is also very smart to fly plane in dancing shoes unlike pigdog americans
lel
> Robust
> Tu 22 breaks at landing.
actually incredibly based and apparently factual
The power of Russian manpads
go back to r/
this was either an IGLA (polish) or stinger (states)
Yes plane very robust, it not break when hit ground (on purpose because Russia plane never of shot down or kill)
Just rub its belly!
every day, i am more convinced russia is where all the reformers went
>Those shoes
Gopnik pilots... Are they being paid in 2004 BMW X5's ?
Pigdog, you! They drive Lada like every good Eastern German.
It is probably the very same helmets those pilots should be wearing that are floating in the civilian market.
Because they're poor OP.
Civilian market products are more expensive than re issuing Soviet shit sitting in a damp basement for 30 years.
Can pilots fly whitout those gay masks ?
Could they in the future with advanced technology
While I cannot abide the Russian as a fellow Earthling, I enjoy the late Soviet personal fashion aesthetic.
What is it with your aesthetics? Don't you have anything else to worry about, you probably own a porn AR-15 maybe even with historic parts as a fetish, admit it. That makes you some sort of commie, I am afraid. Do you share any information for your defense?
are you seriously unsure why russians are still using stuff from the cold war?
Because, despite the need to give the Russians shit for the most minor of shit, its something that doesn't really matter. Its a helmet, it works. C'mon, it isn't like there aren't much better things to make fun of them for.
How are you going to compete with JHMCS when you have a bowling ball on your head?
While I don't believe that the Russians have anything akin to the HMD's that come standard for most American jets, that "bowling ball" actually has targeting ability for high off bore-site missiles. Pic rel is a module that attaches to the helmet and gives the pilot a small ring that he can align with targets. Sure, it ain't giving the pilot any of the useful HUD info that all the modern ones do but for entering service back in the early 80's its pretty slick, especially considering that American jets didn't start getting anything similar until the early 2000's.
off boresight missiles are about the only soviet innovation and advantage in terms of aircraft, yet even that is a copy of US origin. also, archer and its complement, including the helmet didn't enter mass production until the late 80s.
Funnily enough, the seeker head for the Archer was developed in Ukraine.
Have you ever watched those videos of people busting into old cold war era bunkers all over russia and they're filled with crates of this shit? that's why, they over spent/produced in the 70/80's and refuse to upgrade as a result lmao
Why buy new helmet when perfectly good warehouse in st. Petersburg full of old helmet?
