I never shot at an indoor range until I was in my late thirties. Up until then it was just outdoor ranges/hunting with bros/senpai. I didn't realize how shit the common man was at shooting.

There's something to be said about not trying to clear a house with some retardedly long rifle, but under pressure I (and virtually everyone else) is a much better shot with an AR pistol or PCC. The AR also stops the threat way fucking faster, and even a PCC can yeet bullets with significantly more energy than a handgun. A handgun only really makes sense if it needs to be concealed or as a backup...
