It's moderately, not massively, complicated and expensive to get a progressive press setup to spit out enough straight wall cases in 2 hours for a decent volume of shooting. Mostly because of primers. Trimming cases for bottle neck cartridges makes it more so.

Anyone who got into firearms recently watched boomers lining up at the big box retailers every morning hoping to get a box of 100 primers

The primer shortage has ended for a large part.
And even when there wasn't a shortage, people didn't want to handload.

No, it hasn't. They're still basically unavailable locally outside of gun shows, and total cost wherever you might find them ends up being about 2x what you used to be able to get them for locally even after adjusting for inflation.

No it hasn’t. Powder selection is stable but significantly more expensive even when accounting for inflation

Tbf there are a lot of ancillary tools and materials you need to do it, but it really isn't all that complicated. It takes a lot of experience to get a lot out of it, though

They're too expensive and time consuming for common calibers. I'd really rather pay an extra couple cpr for ready cartridges in things like 9mm than spend my time prepping brass and loading bulk ammunition.
Meme loads and chamberings excluded, they can be worth it.

Unless you’re hourly no it does not. Even if you are hourly it’s hard to pick up an extra hour or three on the weekends when you feel like it. I can leisurely load ammo and watch football on my laptop.

      If you said
      >I have enough disposable income to buy match grade ammo
      That’s fine. But you didn’t

Not anymore. Hospitals are dropping travel nurses because covid money has ran dry

Regardless, my point still holds that you can just pick up an hour or two when you want. Scheduling doesn’t work that way and certainly not at hospitals. Sure you can get an extra shift but is working 4 or 8 hours worth it? You can do 4-8 hours of reloading whenever you feel like it and it’s much better than working.

I just shoot basic b***h .308 and 7.62x53R but I like trying out new boolets. FWIW I got excellent results with 53R using the 167gr Lapua Scenar bullet, but I still haven't found a .308 load that works better than factory stuff for my rifle.

Got a new type of bullet to try out for my carry ammo. RMR Nukes. Looks like they require less velocity to expand and expand much earlier than XTP's. I'm loading these to 1000-1100 fps and checking expansions and penetrations.

Right now my XTP load is 1270fps and very high pressure with only .51-.52 expansions.

My XTP's are just into +p+ territory, so there is still room. I backed it down .3gr to make extractions consistent. Primer cratering and flattish primers right now.

These Nukes will hopefully be on the lower end of standard pressure. I want 3 water jugs of penetration and large expansion, so I'll be adjusting it.

          Anonymous

XTPs aren't the best projectile for expansion, they're budget friendly and accurate but known for lower expansion and deeper penetration. If you're looking to get big expansion you might be better off got rodding some gold dots

            Anonymous

I chose XTPs for their cheapness and availability in times of panic. I load them to a higher pressure for more velocity to mitigate low end expansion and high end penetration. They are not the best, but I can load them for less than plinking ammo and constantly train with them. Just need more brass.

I found RMR Nukes for nearly half the cost of XTPs, so I'm giving them a go. If they turn out good, I'm buying a decades worth. If I run out, I still got XTPs to fall back on.

I've seen those and have a friend who shot ballistic gel with them. For their price, they're really good cheap jhp. Are those the 124?

I do 125gr vcrown at 1450 fps out of a g34 with 3n37. Get a fully supported chamber and dont do it at home though.

I'm basically only reloading subsonic 300 blackout right now, at least until I can figure out a better/faster way to trim .223 brass. I have two different trimmers (Frankford Arsenal and WFT) and they both suck for high volume. Thinking the Dillon press mounted case trimmer might be the way. Any suggestions?

I should be fine reloading rounds with dead berdan primers into boxer cases right? the powder appears to check out fine no discoloration or clumping or acrid smell. but, its all rounds from 1940 to 1946 granted i've fired stuff from 1939 but that was stored properly and an entirely different round. also does anyone know if the cci large rifle military primers in the white box are hotter or just have a thicker primer cup? the no 41 small rifle ones seem to flow a lot different than the normal 400's with a modest load.

Using my CZ75BD. I used to run 6.4gr of Power Pistol for 1280fps. When that ran dry, I switched to Accurate #7. I went from 7gr all the way to 8.9grs. Eventually I settled on 8.6grs at 1.090" COAL. It measured about 1270fps.

These new nukes I'm aiming for 1075fps, which will decrease pressures immensely.

I know I've read that CZs have shorter chambers so they might not be best for this type of thing but if you just want a reserve of hotter ammunition something like 3n37 will still help even at recommended lengths. I deleted my post because I decided Im a liability schizo now but Lone wolf barrels will give more room with glocks anyways, viht will get you more speed, and going out of spec is dangerous can get you hurt. I never tried to replicate the length change with power pistol on a longer barrel than 4" but am sure there'd be a noticeable increase in speed there.

        Anonymous

Those Lone Wolf barrels are 9 Major, so they can go add more powder and go much faster. My CZ is limited to 1.100" exactly.

I'll post chronograph results and the bullets after testing hopefully tomorrow. This is Quickload's guess, but I've found their Accurate #7 data to be 20-40fps higher than reality.

Don't know about you situation but here in Aus there's plenty of little companies making lead bullets in packs of 250 for fairly reasonable prices so I'm sure you could find some. Winchester and Berrys are also good brands to look at.

Its only possible or makes financial sense for American calibers that are all $5 a round. Ive only tried to reload 12 gauge. The most american fuddy round and thats with hand pushing primers out and in. Dumping individually weighed powder charge. Shotcup then caste 000 from a home made mold and scrap lead. Then hand cupper paper overshot and hot glue or wax to seal.
