They're required on the range or in training because they have to account for each bullet fired.

They are with euros too. I don't know why the US Army is so fricking stupid that they would rather have us spend hours policing brass instead of just using those.

They do what we do and account for brass by weight, we do the same shit and if we're short on brass we have to go back and find more of them if we get kicked back at the ammo point

They do get used sometimes. Primarily seen them used by Kaarti jägers in public areas.

With personal experience I can say with certainty that this is incredible moronic
Also brass catchers are because the SAF hasn’t got many training areas so it needs to keep what areas it has clean for future use

Yes well killing people for small crimes like littering is going a bit far anon. But a frick ton of bruises and butt scarring? Yeah frick why not.

Such things are and were quite popular in places that have beating as official punishment. You want to beat them (in a specific and uniform way if possible), not accidentally cause internal injury and possibly kill them.

It is a surprisingly common thing.
Can't speak to the kidneys, but whenever I'm recreationally beating the shit out of someone for MMA, one of the big things is I make sure to protect the back of their neck from strikes, and if I'm doing a wrench, go millimeter by millimeter.
Some things are good for striking. Some are not. Simple as.

I don't know, but I reload and have a big moronic pic rail mounted brass catcher on every time I shoot. I can shoot 30 rounds in short grass and I am 100% only going to find 28 pieces of brass.

Makes me laugh knowing what I did when I was OPFOR in the military.

    >exercise taking place at a civilian air field in germany
    >scenario is OPFOR takes over ATC tower and uses it to gain access to the runway to shoot up whatever moves
    >4 of us run out onto the run way with GAU's in full auto blasting mag after mag
    >got about 8 mags off before I was "killed"
    >HUMVEE full of security forces hauls ass around the corner and the 240 gunner opens up
    >brass and links fricking everywhere for a half mile not including the few hundred feet of brass we left
    >overhear the cadre telling them to start picking everything up off the runway
    >sucks to be them I just get to play dead while they process me as EKIA

In my personal experience with brass catchers on an M4, they acted to cause more jams than anything. Whatever brand my unit was using the basket was so small that the brass would bounce back into the BCG line of travel and cause a stove pipe jam.

I would avoid them like the plague unless they were very high end and very big. Ours were small taxpayer funded stupidness.

      >Small taxpayer stupidness.
It does seem like something that could be very easily accounted for, just by shaping the bag so it doesn't bounce back the way it came, or a form of one way gate into the bag that can't be blown through from the other side.
