What kind of style, specifically? Clip-fed? Pistol with a stock? Magazine somewhere other than the grip?

Because you can just have a lightweight semi-auto rifle instead.

It's inefficient when comparing what it offers in cartridge power, capacity and reliability for the size of the firearm. By comparison, a Russian TT pistol is much smaller, has nearly the same capacity, fires the same cartridge and is much simpler mechanically while simultaneously being stronger and more reliable locking system.

      >TT
The Tokarev benefitted from an extra 35 years of design refinements compared to the C96.

I'd say that the C96 is probably the best out of the first-gen semiautos (certainly better than that Borchardt lump). It just became obsolete after pistols with grip magazines (especially removable grip magazines) got on the market.

No duh, that's why guns like the C96 died out: better stuff came along. C96 was obsolete three years after it came on the market.

pistol actions make for smoother and better shooting PCCs than straight blowback PCCs and I'm fricking tired of pretending they dont

          Anonymous

yeah I don't get that. you can get a reliable locked breach 9mm pistol for like 400 dollars but somehow its ok to charge 1k plus for a 9mm blowback pcc

The NFA killed them on the civilian market. Dedicated submachine guns made them obsolete for military use.

given the prevalence of braced AR pistols you'd think they'd make braced versions of these without the moronic barrels. maybe the minimum weight requirement make it nonviable?

it's a different law, about converting rifles into pistols and vice-versa
if the barrel length of the initial pistol is 16" or more - it's legal to convert it into a rifle

because people prefer the boring AR9 or the expensive MP5K. Braced/stocked handguns are pretty cool and seem like they would be fun and useful

      Yes.
      >and useful
Anon why do you think there are no professional services that use stocked pistols anymore? People that need a handgun need something small, people that need a PDW need something more controllable with more range.

        >People that need a handgun need something small, people that need a PDW need something more controllable with more range.

True. But I think a stocked pistol fills the (arguably small) niche of a gun that can be a traditional handgun and also a PDW. Maybe that's not law enforcement or other professional services as you say, but it could be your average citizen during unstable times.

        >Anon why do you think there are no professional services that use stocked pistols anymore?
larger traditional PDW formfactors have more real estate for your grip, would generally be more accurate, offer more sight options, and have more room for accessories like lights and whatnot.

but this is the rationale from before slide mounted pistol optics became ubiquitous. now a braced pistol just needs a mag holder to improve the forward grip and a good commercial solution for lights and it's ready for the market, as it offers a smoother shooting experience and a potentially smaller size than any other large format blowback. the manual of arms can be very good as well if the design of the frame is smart. it naturally has mag-to-fist reloads and doesn't necessarily need pesky things like charging handles with an exposed slide and/or a slide mounted optic.

we don't see nearly the amount of experimentation in this market segment as we should because of the NFA, companies are unwilling to invest much in working out what kind of brace ergonomics really work for people.

nta but that's a good point. If there was similar investment in braced/stocked pistols as there is in the more common PDWs, they would be a much more competitive option. Stocked pistols have some untapped potential

Like traditional architecture the existence of a beautiful and functional thing has become nearly impossible in the modern world. Craftsmanship and love for a creating something turns what is a functional tool into a piece of art, but these days we can only think of making mass produced assembly line shit.
