            >a bunch of bullshit that only works when people are manning it
People have learned that passive barriers are the sine qua non of border enforcement because the last 40 years of experience have taught them that 'pointless wastes of money walls' are all they're ever going to get. Ineffective as walls and fences might be, they don't stop being barriers just because someone wrote a memo.
Real immigration policy takes government commitment that will never exist while irregular immigrants are the only thing keeping Social Security solvent. Brown people need to work without legal status so they can contribute towards benefits they cannot collect to protect the political status quo. No dreams, just exploitation. Not because of a Bad Orange Man or Republicans or Democrats but because that's the way it has to be.

Did anything ever happen to the journalist who showed up to a live TV interview with a 30 round magazine, in a state where they are expressly banned?
Did anything ever happen to the guy who sawed his AR barrel to SBR length to "destroy" it?
Literally nothing ever happens to these people because a sympathetic DA will get the case and instantly drop it. The only justice that could have been served here is if the Guardsman had just been smoking on the other side of the vehicle and blasted her for grabbing his rifle.

He'd get disbarred for prosecutorial misconduct.

The purpose of the law is not to try to force a conviction on anyone who violates any letter of it. Possession with intent to turn it in to the authorities is not possession with intent to break the meaning of the law.
It was not possessed in defiance of the law, but in accordance with it.

If you leave your car unlocked it’s not breaking and entering. This truck was unlocked AND idling. She could have driven off in it. Also, she didn’t steal the firearm (it is government property, so she paid for it), she secured the weapon.

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, long enough to see it change from blue to red. After that flip, though, nothing has really changed. It’s still the good ole boys club, the haves & the have-nots. There’s no difference in parties. They both just play the voters. The Dept of Public Safety for many years has been held in regard to something of a feudal knight. Individuals of high moral character and defenders of justice. Now with Uvalde, that armor is slowly being chipped away to reveal just another political arm. The people who run our State are just conmen who have no moral code or center. They’d all flip parties in a minute if they thought it would keep them in power. They throw out the Secede thing every couple of years to get people all lathered up, but if we did that, it would be a colossal failure. Best thing we have going for us is the fact we can all carry. At least you can take care of your own shit.

                >she secured the weapon
Lets change up the circumstances a little bit for the sake of argument. What if she had taken out and “secured” an encrypted PRC-152 radio set? While seemingly harmless, those crypto keys are now considered compromised and a mad effort is made to change those keys across a massive comm network. She had unknowingly damaged the security and safety of hundreds of thousands of military personnel, and interrupted ongoing operations.

Just like a radio, she has no authorization or duty to “secure” controlled items. If the nasty girls had caught her as she was making off with the weapon, they would have had been in the right to ventilate her car to re-secure the stolen items

Under Texas state law, it's technically "theft of chattel" (or trespass) and is akin to borrowing something without permission.
              >anon why does that matter
Texas cares a lot about "mens rea", or evil intentions, being a state that practices capital punishment. There's a difference between stealing something and borrowing something without permission, although both actions are theft. Texas has a weird way of practicing law, probably due to its history as part of Mexico, France, and being an independent nation for a stretch.

Texas' attitude with most things is, "If it doesn't hurt anybody and you don't get caught, whatever. But if you're stupid enough to get caught, you need to learn your lesson."
There are plenty of Texas laws on the books that don't ever get applied unless the fuzz wants to really frick you over. You can see this here and there where repeat offenders get caught and charged with like 30 different things, and they're almost all obscure bullshit things.
Also, because of carpet baggers, it's really hard to remove things from Texas' constitution or laws, but easy to add them.
I need to verify, though, if horse theft is still technically a hanging offense.

You know damn good and well she won't be charged or even get a slap on the wrist. They never do. You or I do that we're going to prison after the ATF buys us a puppy and shoots it, they do this they get a pat on the back and a "sorry mistress". ATF, FBI, and a whole pile of Texas law enforcement agencies got tagged in the replies and she's given plenty of evidence on her own but not a damn thing will come of it.

You don't get a felony for reporting a crime and securing a loose weapon. That soldier is looking at 1-5 years in the slammer tho

          >loose

Pick one and only one. It doesn't matter if the door is locked or not. If the rifle was OUTSIDE the truck and just left leaning on it all the morons defending this b***h might have a leg to stand on. Based on the story and pictures SHE TOOK she had to walk up to the truck, look inside the vehicle (which is tall because truck), try the doors, and then walk off with a freshly stolen machine gun. If the vehicle is unlocked it's still theft. If the gun isn't secured it's still theft and she's still illegally in possession of that rifle. If it's not theft if the door is unlocked then I'd LOVE to know your address for a bit of friendly wealth redistribution.

I guarantee nobody with the authority to do so told her to take the weapon for any reason and in the tweet chain she even said calling the cops is useless when asked if she did strongly implying she didn't even bother doing that. She just started window shopping that truck and stole a gun out of it.

According to the feds that particular gun is a machine gun. It's got ye olde third hole AND a clearly marked "auto". In the eyes of the law it's a machine gun.

As far as I know, they never found it. Investigators really gave my buddies a hard time trying to find it. The field op they were lost in, was a battalion exercise, but when it happened, the op was winding down and some of the companies had just barely returned. Then we all had to go back out to try and find them. That was the mark of some dark days for 3/6 we had got a really shitty SgtMaj and our BC wasn't experienced with his position either, but he meant well at least. Later in March of 2020, while in 29 palms, we had a mishap where a mortar landed dangerously close to some guys and a couple dudes got minor shrapnel wounds and concussions. The BC and sajmaj were relieved very shortly after that. It was just such a shame to see how things went after the rifle incident, the past 3 years I always thought we were super locked on and had our stuff together.

Why would she brag about it? Does she want the government to get on her ass for not only breaking in a vehicle without authorization(not to mention a government owned one), but also stole a service rifle in that same vehicle. She might have a point, but she still moronic in bragging about committing a crime. The guardsman were also nearby, so she probably waited until they were looking away and stole the rifle.

Depends on circumstances, it's such a weird situation that I legit can't figure out the sequence of events.

As the car was running, I suspect they had jumped out to look at something (or take a piss) and this b***h zoomed up and helped herself to their service weapon and GTFO in a minute or two.

        Anonymous

        >this b***h zoomed up and helped herself to their service weapon and GTFO in a minute or two
It was probably premeditated, she had some beef with the NG before (according to her tweets and one of the articles interwieving her), so she waited until they left one of their cars unattended, snatched the rifle and drove away, to cause shit for them.
If she really had public safety on her mind, she'd just call the cops and wait at the spot until they arrived, not broke into the fricking vehicle and drove off with a fricking government property post-86 machine gun.
