Why can't the west give Ukraine more artillery ammo?

Why can't the west give Ukraine more artillery ammo? Ukraine should at least have parity of rounds fired with russia. What's the population ratio between the west and russia again?

Well after the fall of the iron curtain most militaries were put on a diet and so were the companies producing the respective material. Now it's time to bulk again.

All European countries neglected ammo stored and it takes time to build up. Russians themselves, according to BEST estimates for Russia artillery production, produce 17% of what they need to keep up current artillery intensity

That means they can have a war like this once every six years. Seems like a reasonable amount to plan for. They can get everything else they need from the norks.

Russia cut its artillery consumption by 75% compare to start of a war

As we know now they didn't exactly expect it to drag out this long, so they are definitely getting lower on ammo than they would like to, but I'm sure they'll figure out how to get nork shells across half the globe within a reasonable time frame and without causing a paper trail.

are there any estimates on how many ammo can nork/iran/eritrea produce and how many did they have before the war? I doubt they had more than 10% of the ruzzian capacity, but may be there are some proper estimates?

It's hard to say, but some years ago they were scrambling hard to get western money in order to circumvent sanctions because they had a serious oil shortage. They've gone long ways to set up production sites all over the world with defacto slaves. There used to be norks cutting trees in siberia for oil and coal. Nowadays they've probably found a more profitable endeavor.
Hell, maybe russian diplomats forget some blueprints of a non-shit rocket on their next business trip there.

I think South Korea and Australia can outproduce Norks in ammo production

And I think "you'll work 16 hours every day to make shells or we'll kill your family and then you" is pretty motivating.

NATO hasn't shifted into wartime economy, while russia is bleeding itself to maintain the current production

Most production lines were scaled down when the Cold War ended. It takes time to bring them back up to speed. One of the reasons that Xi is so very unhappy with Putin is that the Western MIC has been jerked out of its complacency and will be in full production if the chinks make a move on Taiwan. It has also fricked over Putin's Greater Russia plan, since European countries have been given time to begin the process of remilitarization and NATO forces are on high alert. And that's not even getting into how the Ukraine War has shattered the image of "muh Soviet war machine" that the Russians have tried so very hard to maintain.

The prodcution still isn't enough to supply Ukraine with as many shells as they need/ask and the West can't simply empty their shell stocks. They need to keep enough of them for their own use if the need arises

Because westerners would rather be making tiktok videos and complain online about how tragic life is than do something productive. Outsourced all manufacturing to china

NATO armies dont use artillery on the same scale as Soviet ones so its much less of a production priority. Fortunately there are millions of shells and surprisingly high production capacity floating around western allies.

Funnily enough propping up a post Soviet military didnt figure high in western projections

Keep in mind the difference in per shell effectiveness as well. Half as many 155mm rounds could have just as much of an effect as 152mm, once accounting for the difference in CEP, shell fragmentation, and so forth.

they mostly use soviet ammo. the west doesnt have stocks of that.

we do have stocks of 155mm but our stocks are tiny and this is a big war. only the us has big enough stocks to give away enough without hurting their own military.

      1) look for whoever produces ammo im your area
      2) look for open positions
      3) ideally have a military background
      4) don't have a russian sounding surname
      5) have relevant education

Why population level? It's not as if everyone is making 155 shells in their sheds at the weekend. A better guide might be to look at each side's GDP and the percentage they spend on the military, or maybe the output of different arms manufacturers?

It's over for hohols, they choose the losing side. Their puppet master is crumbling under a new banking crisis. The Europeans have destroyed their militaries in favour of lgbt related funding. Their manufacturing bases have moved to the east (see picrel). Now depleted of Russian energy inflation is soaring in foible digits while the Russian economy barely contracts despite massive unprecedentee western sanctions. Europe will turn into nothing more than an open air museum, America will succumb into civil war and race war. The powers are rising in the East. When the west is financially ruined in the near future their support to the Kiev regime and their coke addicted leader will stop. China and their mighty industrial base will support Russian warriors with more steel and gunpowder. Then, a devastating blow will be given to the fascists. The vermin will be squished and raped, and the west will do nothing.

Reminder that your economic system is build on debt and everytime your central banks try to get out of this situation the system starts to fail and central banks have to print money again. You are doomed, the west is dying. Like the Roman empire you are slowly fading away. Even your Saudi friends rather deal with the Chinese than with you.

Meh, they've been saying that for sixty years. At least. And China uses the exact same strategy of unsustainable debt. So...
