Why can't the US build something like this?

> Cheap
> Great range
> Large 36kg / 80lbs warhead, guranteed tank kill
> Satellite controlled
> Possibly home on jam

It should be a no brainer. Any artillery piece, AA system or EW vehicle, tank, AFC etc is more expensive than the drone itself. Yet not much seems to be happening. The war has been going on for over 6 months. It shouldn't really be that hard to build something like this

They've been blowing up Russian tanks since march

No, they control the drone with a joystick. They are able to search for, and find a target even if they don't know it's position.

So it's an el Cheapo switchblade 600 then

              Nope, still isn't in production

              With a lot bigger warhead

                >Nope, still isn't in production
Akahually there was very suspicious videos of Ukraine """"artillery""" hiting Russian AFVs around Kiev that look like guided weapons. Switchblades? Brimstones? Whatever.

those were kvitnik shell - their own domestic laser guided 152mm.

It could be given to Ukraine, and they could just drone spam until no russian artillery or AA is left

so it's like guided artillery or missiles but really slow and easy to intercept

No. Guided artillery can really only attack stationary targets, as it is GPS programmed. Same goes with GPS programmed rockets such as HIMARS. As for guided missiles; if you are talking about man in the loop systems, the one that I know of that has the greates range is the Spike NLOS, which has a 32km range, so much shorter range and much smaller warhead

        GPS is satellite targeting
or did you think they have optical satellites up there tracking individual fricking tanks and providing guidance correction to some tiny suicide drone?

No, they control the drone with a joystick. They are able to search for, and find a target even if they don't know it's position.

I haven't seen any optical sensors on this thing.
It's very likely just GPS/INS controlled, ie relegated to static targets.

Did we forget Brimstones and other equivalent exist or something.
Loiter drones are just more expensive versions of them with higher range and more easily shot down

SDB-II is a 250lbs GPS guided glide-bomb that can hit a moving target from 28 miles away, or a non-moving target at about 65-70 miles.

It also has a CEP of 3 feet (1 meter).

SDB II has MmW radar, SAL, and IIR seekers. Attributing all it's performance to the GPS capability is really fricking disingenuous.

            Anonymous

Sure, but the GPS capability is what navigates it to the area of its target. Then it uses its other targeting sensors for final trajectory/tracking.

Without the GPS it wouldn't really be capable of its 50+ mile range.

              Anonymous

Sure, but the low CEP and more relevantly the ability to track moving targets like those other gays were arguing about, that definitely comes from it's other seekers, not the GPS.

The submunitions still use IIR and Lidar to actually aim the EFPs though. GPS is good and has gotten a lot better over the years but it isn't perfect.

Well of course, GPS can only go to its assigned GPS coordinates, it by itself has no ways to observe and adjust based on a visible target, it makes no sense to try and observe a moving target and determine its GPS coordinates when you can just use other sensors when you're closer like radar, lidar, infrared, etc.
