Why Buy from Gunshop?

Is there any reason I should buy guns and ammo from a local Gunshop or even a local Gunshow? Generally, I notice Gunshops and especially Gun Shows upcharge a crazy amount compared to what I can find online.

I still go to Gunshops and Shows to get hands on product. But then I walk out and immediately find it cheaper online somewhere else, even with shipping and ffl fee added. The only time I have found good deals in store that are comparable to to prices online has been on Black Friday.

I know a lot of Gun Shop employees work on commission. Has anyone been able to talk them down in price? Have them price match or beat an online retailer?

If you can't find deals irl it's because nobody likes you

Gunshops are THE place to score legitimately good deals. The caveat is that those deals are rare. This anon is right as well, . If the LGS employees know and like you they'll give you the first shot at rare or interesting consignments or estate guns. They'll also throw in free shit from time to time. Sometimes my guys toss a box of ammo in for free for me because I patronize their store a lot.

Is the LGS the cheapest option all the time? Absolutely not. But they sometimes have really cool shit roll through.

They've given me free mags and some other shit when I've bought from my LGS, so I'm inclined to go back. The price was about the same as online too

Online will always beat brick and mortar in practically every industry. The reasons you buy there would be the same reasons you shop local for anything else, or avoid BigMart to shop at Mom and Pop. If you don't do that or care about local economics then no there's no reason. You might get deals from a shop if you are liked and they know you, but you'll almost always have an easier time finding deals and doing pricing comparisons online. They have more overhead than online retailers and will never compete. This is the future you choose.

Sure enough. I just met my lgs for a transfer. Nice guy, I'd like to give him my business, but he'll never be able to compete. Sorry.

        >I met a woman, she's really nice, I'd like to frick her, unfortunately she can't compete with my hand. Sorry.

Analogy's backwards. You're paying to get fricked by a prostitute instead of getting married.

Milsurp is easier to find in person than online, can’t get a well finished artillery Luger for $1,300 on gunbroker that’s for sure.

What's the best place to look (in-person) for milsurp? Pawnshops? Gun stores? Gun shows? I feel like the latter two would always be too expensive (they would probably have a better idea of how high the milsurp market has gotten), but pawnshops might be less informed, and perhaps not realize the value of what they have.
I have no idea if this reasoning is true or not.

While you are absolutely never gonna get a deal at a gun show, it's unironically the best place to find milsurp. Just avoid the old guys trying to pawn their beat up luger for 3 and a half grand

I like my local shop. I can see the goods in person without any choice camera angles and sometimes he gets cool stuff.
Stuff that I don't buy, but damn it's cool to see NFA stuff and rare antiques in person.

l like my lgs. They have a great selection at reasonable prices and are quirky in the nicest way. I'll never buy a gun I can't hold in my hands first. I bought my last gun there and will go back there when I am buying my next.

It depends on the gun store. In 2016, I handled a p2000sk in .40 at the lgs and they wanted $1000 for it, then I bought the 9mm version online for $750 total. Then last year, I bought a LCR, and no online purchase was going to make it cost less than $550 total, so I just paid that locally and got it the same day. I know that usually the online shop is better, but there are a few situations still where I'll just buy from the local store.

I work part time at a LGS. A LGS will always be more expensive than online because we have a storefront and multiple salesmen to support. Margins are around 25-30% at best for most MSRPs, and the online stores can afford to advertise 5% over wholesale and make $10 a sale if they're selling a few thousand guns a day.

You have to patronize a good store a few times. Talk to the employees, socialize, ask questions, don't have an autistic fit if someone says something stupid or wrong. Don't try to haggle at first, or if you've been talking to the guy for a while and you seem to be getting along well. The more often you're in, the better the guys will know you. The better they know you, the better the prices, and you'll have better items offered. I have a bunch of regular customer's phone numbers in my phone, ready to text them if something comes in that I know they would want. Pic related, we got a 80x, the first we've been offered. We knew exactly who would buy that, I texted him, and he was in an hour later to pick it up. New guns like that are always expensive, be prepared to at best get online prices for new stuff. Used guns are a whole other story. I'm getting the 86 in the pic for $700 and the 950 is leaving with another regular for $200.

Are gun shops a good place to sell your used gun at? I don't want to do a private or online sale

If you can’t find a shop with a good crew working it, yeah. My LGS and I are buddy buddy, so they often help me find what I’m looking for, and cut me deals on ammo.

LGS #1 (but applies to most in my area)
    >tiny
    >awkward guys to get to know
    >only has modern AR, home defense shotguns, and glocks
    LGS #2
    >attached to pawn shop, but only for sharing rent
    >decent selection, bought some guns
    >guy behind the counter is cool and bro tier
    LGS#3
    >old boomer, constantly pissed off about God knows what
    >big selection, big prices
    >too much of a douche to make a sale

i gave in a few years ago and just started buying online.

The one good thing about brick and mortar gun stores is that you get to inspect the actual gun you are buying before you pay. With online sales and an FFL transfer, you are stuck with whateve they send you. If he has a big scratch or gouge, or something is fricked or off kilter, like the sights ... you are stuck dealing with sending it back to the manufacturer or dealing with the online retailer.

But to be honest, after the fee places like Bud's add to a debit/credit purchase, plus FFL transfer, you aren't saving much. And you have to wait, whereas with a gun store I can walk in and walk out 15 mins later with my gun.

I dunno, are there any online stores that don't charge cc fees or crazy shipping & insurance fees, ammo specifically?
