Why aren't war trophies/bring backs a thing anymore?

You always hear about grandpa coming back with his Luger or Katana. I don't think I've ever heard of soldiers from the Middle East bringing back any weapons or anything of value besides a flag.

The government has fricked you and taken away so many things you thought you had a right to and you're too stupid to even notice. Why do you think parts kits are such a b***h to bring in? You need to hound your congressman or some shit have them repeal the stupid little rules that screwed you over, they'd rather trash things or gift them to the taliban rather than sell surplus to the American civilian consumer anymore.

My best friend lived in Serbia for six months in 2017. No idea if this is still true, but an army base outside of Belgrade had a surplus sale open to the public back then. Mostly old cots, tents, jerry cans, obsolete gear etc. Accrued funds were *allegedly* sent to the ministry of education or infrastructure I forget which. This would never happen in the US because our politicians are moronic.

I pray every day for such a brutal, lawless and barbarian WW3 that all of the modern world ethical values of respect, compassion, equality and dignity are thrown out through the window and all of humanity can act like the animals we always were but we been hiding for the past 80 years.
I want war to be FUN and LIBERATING for the human soul as it was in the past.
      Humanity needs a new catharsis.

He's American, the war is never going to come to him. WW3 will take place in the Old World. So he can be as bloodthirsty as he wants while sitting safe and sound in North America. Just like in WW1 and WW2, the American chicken hawk cheers for war... somewhere else, but not in his home.

Because an AK is a machine gun and the commander isn't going to sign the paperwork needed. For pistols, it's mostly effect of the military's compulsive control of their own weapons bleeding over. Any captured weapons are immediately locked up in the armory, so it's never really "yours."

Other things are totally fine though. One deployment I brought back an AQI flag, another an Afghan knife recovered after a fight. Plenty of bring backs out there, you just don't know anyone.

As a personal example of , my dad had a Iraqi Republican Guard pistol taken from the HQ in 2003 that he kept on his person still overseas (probably helped he was an officer), but wasn't able to take home. He DOES have some inert stuff like stationary (pic related), a few dinars etc that he was able to smuggle/bring back.

There is no paperwork. Importing machine guns is illegal and has been 1968. All the Vietnam war bring back shit was either pre-1968 or highly illegal and registered under the amnesty act.

This. Bringbacks and imports of civillian legal full autos was banned in 1968. From 68 to 86, civilian legal f/a had to be manufactured in the US, or were semi to full conversions registered before the Hughes Amendment to the 1986 FOPA. F/a imported into the US between 68 and 86 are all pre-86 dealer sample.

Gun companies bribed politicians to make it illegal. They also bribe them to try to ban guns that they compete with that are public domain like the AR-15 and AK-47

No kidding. Their supposedly almighty lobbying power hasn't stopped the US Northeast from turning its gun laws into a patchwork of Euro-tier garbage. So long as the boomer life members get to keep their deer rifle and over-under 12 gauge for skeet-shooting, frick everyone else I guess.

The NRA is the single most useful gun rights organization. Because as long as the antis are focusing on the big bad evil NRA, they’re not paying attention to the organizations that actually accomplish stuff

Indeed. Smart dudes stuffed one pistol in their cargo pocket and didn't say shit to anyone for a very long time. Vehicles were searched, packs and gear maybe, but I've never met a combat vet who got TSA groped before flying home from 2001-2006. Some took the risk and it paid off lmao.

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.
    >every time ship returns from deployment, crew gets all hands brief on customs
    >anything lawful to own needs paperwork done on it
    >anything illegal better go over the side because they *will* spend a day or two tearing the ship apart looking for it with the assistance of the maa's
    >except for the ship's armory, they're not allowed in there
    >and i'm the ship's armorer

My standing policy was no drugs, no cp, and nothing explosive that looked too sketchy. Honestly it wasn't all that exciting. The 2003 westpac was pretty productive but it was mostly boring stuff, swords and shit like that, a couple of handguns that I don't exactly recall but I wasn't impressed with them at the time. One kid checked in a functional MAC 10 in pretty good shape, and another kid turned up with some Russian grenades. No idea where exactly any of this came from, as I didn't ask.

A few years later on shore duty, the dog handlers told me that it was the same deal with the dog kennels, which was how they moved their collection of Iraqi weapons stateside. I only saw a small part of it and what I saw was astonishing. There were rumors that drugs came back with them too but I don't consider them credible.

Apparently there were a few guys that did pretty well at the start of the Afghanistan thing, before the locals figured out what those old British guns were actually worth and the fakes starting flooding the local bazaars. I'm not sure how they got them home, but they managed. In all honesty, for a couple of years after 9/11 the US military experience was the Wild fricking West, so who knows? They might have just mailed them home. I know one guy that did exactly that with a PVS-7C, which is kind of old school today but it was some fancy fricking kit back in 2003.

Because they made it gay and you couldn't legally do it unless you got like an O-6 to sign off on it. Which means that only high ranking officers and E-9's had any realistic chance of being approved.
