Why aren't militaries adopting trained Hawks and Eagles to take down drones?

Why aren't militaries adopting trained Hawks and Eagles to take down drones? They're much more effective than handing a jamming rifle to grunts who get distracted all the time and might just not notice the incoming drones

Nah, I'll buy op's premise. Why not?

I guess it works well with these DJI drones, but what about something more powerful?

They are attaching cyanide-dipped razor blades to the props. I the razor blades don't slice off the bird's toes, the cyanide will kill that bird and make sure it doesn't take down another drone.

I'd love to see you try Black person. Go get yourself one of those consumer grade drones (don't even have to be dji, the $90 knockoffs will do) and stick your fingers in it

why would I stick my fingers in it when I'm going to have a birb do it?

    Stop being moronic
Drones basically make 90% of military obsolete
Russia doesn't have modern drones, I'm talking AI swarms that are like the Zerg. What you see in Russia Ukraine is not modern warfare

Everything you thought 5 years ago about war is obsolete. Infantry are nearly obsolete. The best platform is lots of ground ai drones or lots of flying drones 99% of the time

Shaheed drones show this even shitty. There is no front line to drones. They can go anywhere in the country and protecting from it is nearly impossible to cover all that ground. Drones are cheap enough to swarm in the hundreds of thousands long distances into infrastructure and logistics

This is correct. We are at the cusp of the AR-15 joining the musket in the pile marked obsolete. The infantryman may still have some roles but the rifle is a particularly useless weapon against small flying fast moving objects and the chance of encountering another human on the battlefield will become very slim. You have either seen modern AI and know or you are clueless

        >There is no front line to drones
This has been said before regarding paratroopers and heliborne assault. Guess what, to this day stagnant fronts (that even allows trench warfare to develop) still very much exists

An attack from below would make it more viable. It's not scalable though. Might be worth it for some redundancy (airport falconry vs. birds) at sensitive points. IF you could give something like a Peregrin a protective metal gauntlet to spike a propeller in diving passes, it might be more efficient.

They are expensive and take years to train. Falconry and the feeding, care and veterinary for birds of prey is an area with a huge knowledge behind it like guns shooting and reloading. They are best used to SCARE other birds but even then it is only worth it at airports when closure due to birds would cost millions an hour to down jets worth millions. Soldiers do not have the disposition or capacity to become proficient in falconry.

Why not train a raven or something not to attack the drone, but to circle it to draw attention to it thereby allowing grunts with jammers to take it down?

Hawks don't often fly above 1000ft AGL, which drones can do.

  11. 1 year ago

It would probably be more expensive and less effective that equipping drones to take out other drones. A simple AI software could handle it automatically.
