European defense industry as a whole is barely starting to wake up from it's slumber.
This was known last year, and it's moronic to pretend the situation for anything other then ammo production will change for the better in the coming years.

There is a very big left wing pro Russian faction inside the political space and governmental agencies of Germany. They try to do everything in their power to stop it.

That was about Rheinmetall, who is mostly only supplying parts for the tanks, sending their spare ones they have standing around.

Thats the one Rheinmetall has offered last year after the war broke out.
They never started to refurbish them because there came no order from the government, and the company won't just shit out millions of euros on the hope that they might get to supply them. They said it would take a year 11 months ago so of course it will still take a year now.
IF germany will offer any tanks they will have to come from Bundeswehr stocks, but they only have what they need themselves, so it will be interesting.
The public also doesn't know where the Marders are supposed to come from, since the 40 in industry stocks are supposed to go to greece.

Best advice would be to simply read the article.
    >Rheinmetall, which manufactures the battle vehicle’s gun, has 22 Leopard 2 and 88 older Leopard 1 tanks in its stocks. Getting the Leopard tanks ready for battle, however, would take several months and cost hundreds of millions of euros the company could not put up until the order was confirmed, Papperger said.
    >“The vehicles must be completely dismantled and rebuilt,” he added.

Lol wut, sound and rational advice here? An appeal to adhs-riddled zoomers to apply themselves to actually reading news instead of only passively consuming their favorite YouTube/social media-substitute for an education? You can’t be serious man

Those would be the pure industry stock tanks. There is also a reserve that the german army pays the companies to keep in certain states of readiness. It’s a multi tier system that’s very intransparent for obvious reasons.
The article in OP is obviously kraut hate clickbait. The article in the german outlet it references is industry crying for money. Both in their own way misrepresent what’s actually going on, albeit for different reasons.

because this is the german mentality, they're the most backstabbing c**ts on earth, never trust them to do anything because it will nearly 100% be used to frick you over. just ship them old m1 abrams stock and be done with it, they were born to be painted green and shoot at vatnik tanks

The US will likely not send any M1s, sparky. Ever.
For the exact same reasons the Germans would really like someone else to send MBTs, preferably not Leopard 2s.

why? ukraine is obviously going to be purchasing nato hardware after the war is over, poland has been able to get purchases of abrams, why hold out on ukraine when they're in the middle of a war that nato was designed to defend against

right now Soviet tanks are getting blown to pieces left and right and are considered shit tier (well deserved imo) - if you send western ones into meat grinder they will also be destroyed sooner or later - and poof goes invincibility bubble - selling them at a huge premium would be that much harder...

ukraine is not russia, they know how to utilize american and nato equipment effectively, thats why there hasn't been a single himars kill since they got them a while ago
            >if you send western ones into meat grinder they will also be destroyed sooner or later
everyone has already seen destroyed m1 abrams since the gulf war and the iraq war, nobody is shocked to see dead american tanks
            >selling them at a huge premium would be that much harder
anon, the us military doesn't sell abrams to anyone except poland as of very recently, they dont care about selling m1 abrams

Germs had a sweet energy deal with russia, I'm surprised they even care about Ukraine.

Half of their industry is on the governments tit because of some anglos pushing them to antagonize russia. Geopolitically speaking, Germany is acting very irrationally.

    >Bullshit headline yet again
Rheinmetall has 22 Leopard 2s and 88 Leopard 1s in storage. Rheinmetall said in order to get them combat ready they have to basically disassemble and reassemble all of them which would take about a year in total. And they won't do it without an actual contract.
So this has nothing to do with the German government. This is not about any of the tanks the Bundeswehr uses or has in storage this is just about what the private company Rheinmetall has laying around.

These are new/refurbished from Rheinmental, they could take from active or reserve stocks when they want.

Those are testbed/demonstrator hulls. Rebuilding them to anything that resembles a standardized tank is actually complicated. The original article was basically RM crying that they cannot send those. The tanks to be sent would need to come from BW warstock, which then would have to be replaced, by new Leo2s. They are crying for orders.
Active stock is out of the question, Germany is not going to send A6/7s.
The most plausible solution is a coalition of several Leo2 users, donating A4s.
