The German quality is shit tier but its being used as a political move by SK to increase funding for ssbn development, a similar tactic was used to get out of the F35B purchases with more F35A + KF21N development

thats what you get when you buy german

      >didn't read the article
The subs are korean-built copies of a german design, with some components that they're unable to make thenselves purchased directly from germany. At least one of the flaws was caused by the korean cooling system leaking seawater onto a german electrical system. The fact that this is happening aboard the all 9 of the submarines that korea built themselves, and not on the ones that they bought directly from germany (or anyone else's german-bought/german-cloned submarines of the same class, of which there are many) is indative of problems with the korean yards themselves.

I dont even know where to start, but it comes down to: the inside of a submarine is choke full of systems that dont handle contact with (sea)water very well. Go visit an actual sub and you know what i mean.

                >why aren't these electronics just operating as normal when the sub starts flooding
I know you're probably being disingenuous but there's a reason why the first order when a space experiences flooding is to isolate it electrically, and that's because seawater absolutely fricks electronics. The last thing you need while trying to deal with flooding is an electrical fire.
In addition, coping with flooding in a submerged submarine is even more nightmarish than on a surface vessel because the increased water pressure is forcing the sea in at a massively increased rate. It's why typically flooding will force a submarine to emergency surface regardless of the mission or danger topside
5:00 on has a pretty good demonstration of what flooding at depth looks like

              >all that cool shit
              >doesn't have a blue water navy
When they get their carrier, they will leapfrog a bunch of other countries, but until then all their assault and auxiliary ships are only good as far as their land based air assets cover them. Which is all understandable when you consider they know their next war will most likely be just next door. Still makes them a regional power though.

Lol South Korea has deployed 500k+ combat troops post Korean War, no other nation other than the US can claim this, in fact when SK combat troops are deployed adversaries get killed at a scale that makes even the US uncomfortable, SK is the US's broad sword, UK is the US's scalpel

Israel would get wiped out by either UK or Germany, their populations and resources are, separately, many times larger.
        >North Korea beating anyone in a total war scenario
They have no economy to speak of, so no means by which to pursue anything like total war.

While Israel is a small nation, both the UK and Germany are the size of a midsized US state with extremely limited natural resources

New Zealand, a nation with no air combat abilities, only two combat capable vessels in it's navy and only 100 wheeled armored vehicles it going to beat someone with twice as many armored vehicles as it has active soldiers and more artillery pieces that it's entire defense force has people after being hit with 50+ atomic warheads.

It ain't good but they were already in the process of replacing them with a superior, native sub. They'll be fine. They are already 15 years old so hardly a loss of cutting edge tech (ie useful againt China)

Its a third, not a half. They aren't completely useless and as I said its their older models (the newer subs are considerablly more useful). Also, allow me to remind you that I led with "it ain't good." I acknowledge that this is a setback but its hardly as catastrophic as some in this thread have claimed it to be.

Only 7 are adversly affected. And I thought they had 21 subs in their fleet? 9 old, 9 really old, and 3 new.

Mission capable stats should be available as they are in the US so you can easily verify such questions. Sortie availability depends on many factors and doesn't mean an aircraft can't be used in a war emergency but it's reasonable to expect high break rates during transition.

This is an example of a worthless article. WHAT broke, what were the fixes, are the fixes complete, what changes will be integrated into production etc?

So the south can't even complete a kit handed to them by Germany but the North already has a deployed ICBM launching sub with at least 5 proven launches under it's belt?

Imagine being part of South Korea's JIDF-equivalent and defending your gay country on the internet for free by arguing with racist rednecks who frick male deer corpses, laugh at people getting blown up, and constantly discuss methods of murdering government agents, about how totally cool and powerful you are when for the last 60 years all people would think about when hearing the word "Korea" is Kim Jong-Un and Matt Damon in a puppet film. At least your coworkers who create and monitor the totally organic K-Poop threads that litter half the boards on this site get paid in internet cafe-hours to act moronic; you on the other hand try so hard to work that supposedly genius IQ brain of yours into getting random foreigners to treat South Korea as a legitimate military power instead of knockoff Japan, but we all know it's too fried from playing Starcraft and watching Tiktoks of your favorite K-Poop idols recovering from their 28th jaw surgery when you're not "defending" your country for free or contemplating jumping off the roof of one of the many ugly eyesore commieblocks that adorn your "beautiful" cities

    German here, I think it's time for an honest admission of failures and observations in regards to our military and industry;

    - The Eurofighter is a failure overall. There is only a very limited number ready for combat at any point in time. It took decades to develop and the overall performance is just average

    - The Eurocopter is a failure overall.

    - Corruption in the military takes the form of "advisors" which were for deployed back when the current EU chief "Ursula von der Leyen" aka "Flintenuschi" was defense minister. A significant amount of money was spent on utterly useless advisors from Mc Kinsley and such.

    - There are major issues with certain Naval Ships

    - NH90 is barely operational

    - No pride in the engineering work since the decades old "love and peace" indoctrination also affected engineers working in the defense industry

I could go on, there is overall just so much wrong, it's going to take decades to fix it.

    ... I could go on
