Why are npcs so obsessed with the premise of societal collapse/the apocalypse? Don't they understand how irrevocably fricked they would be? This is not a recent phenomenon, either. Remember when all the brainlets were going wild back in 2012? when they thought it would be the "doomsday year"?

You're on drugs. New Vegas is the greatest Fallout. Fallout 3 is clunky and had no real story or addons. It was made by a better team of devs. Fallout 4 was worse.

I never really liked fallout anyway. I found it obnoxious. Like driving a tank instead of much smoother shooters. Dialogue went everywhere instead of better rpg customization. The fonts weren't enlarged. But that green yucky tinge in Fallout 3 sucked as worse than the cumbersome gameplay. Where New Vegas is a much better game and story.

Fallout NV is a pretty good compromise and your choices in it actually matter or you can just kill everyone on sight like I prefer to do. The other fallouts are just dog shit goyslop, not worthy of the franchise.

Those who have lived in decadence and privilege will fall from Grace while those in poverty will at least be somewhat equipped to handle the horror. People have been obsessed with the end times since beginning of society. Shit, Christians have been obsessed with it for the past 2000 years. Why? Because no one wants to die alone and have the world continue on without them. It's a deep primal fear. Everyone is secretly obsessed with being there at the end of the world, so everything will end with their death. I think it's an ego thing. Out of the tens of thousands of years humans have been around, the apocalypse will happen while you're alive.

      Anonymous

But isn't the attraction of the post apocalypse trope in being around AFTER the end? It's such an odd fetish, really. It's like losers that think they wouldn't be losers if they had sex then they have sex and still realise they are STILL losers kek

        Anonymous

Oh post-apocalypse fetishism and apocalyptic fetishism are too different thing. I was speaking more about the doomsday cult people who use numerology to shout that the world is going to end in whatever year. Like OP said about 2012.

The post-apocalypse people just want a restart of society, and fantasize about testing their mettle against a harsh world. Depending on what flavor of post-apocalypse they like can tell you what kind of person they are. For example someone that thinks about zombie shit a lot probably has a lot of pent up anger and wants to kill people without feeling too guilty about it. Everyone's out to get them, and it's okay to brutalize them because they're not even really living anyway.

        >Tom Howards dirty raping and mutilating the original Fallouts

This, Fallout 3 was plagued by shit writing and bad game design, the cartoonification of the Fallout universe.

A good example is the Nuka Cola factory, it's so frickin stupid that there would be any food left or other stuff left 200+ years after the nuclear war. The mongoloid writers though had no understanding of the world so they went for some midwit writing, just go to a food related building in the fricking capital of the former USA and there is still food there, no one thought of to go there! This shoul'd be contrasted with the gecko tunnels caves in Fallout 2 where you can access some old word high-tech stuff but only after repairing and elevator and you'd die without managing the radiation. This is realistic since the zone is hidden inside a mountain and is protected by automatons.

Further, that idiot frick didn't understand Fallouts alternative 50's american dream esthetic that was used as a contrast to show how utter shit the world had become, as a comical but dark invertet reflection of the existence of beeing chased by enormous scorpoins and other mutats. This was totaly lost on the morons that made Fallout 3++, they instead made stupid cartoonish weapons that were unrealistic and might be concidered funny for a midwit 12 year old.

Another aspect of the shit game design was that fast travel wan instant and 100% safe, this ruing the sense of danger when traveling longer distances, unlike fallout 2 where you'd shit you pants when getting an encounder when low on health or ammo or in deathclaw area.

Fallout 3 also sucked because it wasn't even an RPG, the game catered to plebs by giving them a powerfantay, the characters were extremely overpowered and extra stats that should be super rare were common, not as in fallout 2 where you'd have work hard for som 1+ surgery. The worst aspect of Fallout 3 was that you didn't even have to make a specialized character, you could have it all.

    >Remember when all the brainlets were going wild back in 2012?
anyone who isnt a moron already knew back then that 2012 is NOT the year because the Maya Calendar ends in 2046 not in 2012 (the entire worlds calendar systems changed from 360 to 365 days back in 713BC).

I think it's because society is so fricked that there is no longer an imagined future like the jetsons. This is the improvement. Freedom from the cuck wagie cage and the next step in a moral nihilist/hedonists conception of paradise - somewhere you can kill and rape with impunity.

    >rolling it out to foreign nations
    >that will become increasingly needful ("How will you manage your unruly rioting crowds, goy nations?")
    >but ONLY IF things accelerate and fall apart to the point where Deus Ex will be needed to rollout
    MEANWHILE
    >all Hollywood/entertainment is pushing the narrative: "The fallout will be sexy and cool; it's fun to form scavenger groups looking for bandaids and scraps of SPAM™!"

    >"I don't think so," says Henry. "Not for long and probably not out here. And say you get through the first few days with what you have. Then what? And what do you do when someone shows up with a gun to take what you have? You can't call the police. You don't even know who your friends are anymore."

    >They go on in this vein for a while; heaping on more horrors, remarking on how fragile our system really is, how terrible it would be if anything happened to it. They're simply oozing with the grim importance of it all. Finally, the dancing bear can stand it no more.

    >"Well, let's say the worst stuff you can think of really happens," I interrupt, "would that really be such a tragedy?"

    >The chatter stops as all eyes turn to me.

    >"Would it really be so bad if your world broke apart at the seams?" I ask. "Cascade failures and anarchy and all that. I could see where it might be a pretty good thing. Shake things up. Get the blood flowing."

    >They're exchanging glances with each other in smug bemusement; seeking an explanation for, or complicity against, the jackass making this unscheduled deviation from standard themes.

    >"I don't know any of you personally," I continue, "but it looks like your lives are fairly predictable. You know how this storyline plays out, right? So what would be so bad if this storyline shifted abruptly to something a little more exciting?"

    >For better or worse, I have their attention. Henry looks happy.

    >"I'm just playing the devil's advocate here, thinking out loud. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your lives are pretty much," I make a gesture indicating our current setting, "this, right? I mean, you make money, raise kids, socialize, fulfill your roles, just like everyone else; basically ambling in small circles toward your own graves while pretending you're not. Sure, you all meditate and do whatever spiritual practices, but you know that's not really going anywhere, right?"

    >A few pockets of resistance pop up, but I plow over them. Their indignation is as meaningless to me as the growls of little pink puppies. I'm indulging myself with a somewhat more forceful manner of communicating now, mainly for my own amusement, and their reaction at this stage is not a factor.

    >"This end-of-the-world thing of yours sounds so terrible," I say, "but maybe it would be your one real chance. You might not know it, but what you're fantasizing about is waking up; your own awakening. You've heard the Chinese saying that's both a blessing and a curse; May you live in interesting times. If you look at it, you'll see that we don't live in interesting times, but we could. That's what your terror scenario is really about, isn't it? The times becoming interesting? We'd have perfect seats for one of the greatest spectacles in the history of the world; the meltdown of an advanced technological civilization. As you've pointed out, it wouldn't take much. Food and water run out in a few days, and all pretense at decency and morality run out with them. Major cities panic and go berserk. Fire, riots, evacuation. It'd be the greatest unmasking the world has ever known. A mass awakening; millions of people getting very real, very fast. You don't think that'd be fun?"

    >They're looking at me like I'm crazy, stupid, or just unbelievably rude. I'm directing my words mainly to Henry so the others will feel that they're watching a conversation, and not being directly provoked. They see that Henry isn't offended, so they resist the urge to jump in.

    >"It's not too improbable, I guess. Terror, nuclear mishap, some planetary event, war, a microbe, an act of God. Things change, fall apart, end. No rule against it, right? Imagine America reduced to a land of warlords and city-states; marauding bands of peevish Merlot sniffers roaming the countryside."

    >Henry laughs and lifts his wine glass.

    >"Sultry bouquet! Sultry bouquet!" he shouts like a rallying cry.

    >I laugh too. This is fun.

    >"Any hope of a return to normalcy vanishes. The people we call primitive are unaffected and go on about their lives undisturbed while the entire wired world descends into savagery; not in years or months, but in weeks, days. We'd see how our deeply held values stand up to an empty stomach. How many meals do you miss before you stop loving thy neighbor and slit his throat? This civilized veneer is really quite thin. Make a study of the human in extremis— prison camps, lost at sea and all that—and you'll see it's not just the veneer of civilized behavior that's thin. Friendship, morality, honor, all disappear. Distinguishing physical characteristics disappear. And what about love? When the going gets tough, we'll steal food from our own starving children. We're wired to survive and love doesn't override wiring." This isn't going over at all well. "I don't really mean us, here, sitting at this table," I continue, "because this is all a veneer too. These cheerful, well-fed personas are just flimsy veils of consciousness laid over the animal within and don't survive even minor discomforts." Everyone's looking down and around, and my sense is that they'd like one among them to stand up and put me in my place. "Who we think we are can be stripped away forever," I make a poof gesture, "just like that. Right now, well fed, unthreatened, we have the luxury of pretending the Donners and the Nazis and the gang-bangers are someone else, but they're not. They're us; a veil's breadth away. There are no good guys and bad guys. People are people, all the same; only the circumstances change."

    >I take a breath and let all that sink in. I stand up and start to pace as I resume the diatribe, both for my own energy and so no one mistakes this for a conversation. They are silent now, watching the show. Maybe it's the words or the force behind them, or maybe it's just the spectacle, but they're all fixed on me. No swirling and sniffing. No smug, sideward glances. Henry is positively beaming with delight. He got his show.

    >I grab a carrot stick and take a bite.

    >"It could be the death-rebirth process, but on a planetary scale. Very interesting to think about. This whole ego-based society burns to the ground. Years of chaos and anarchy follow, but then something rises from the ashes. What? Probably another ego-based society born of might instead of right, of rancid fear, but maybe not. Maybe something else. Heaven on earth, right? Get ourselves back to the garden, don't you think? That's the process the individual has to go through, so why not a society? It's the kind of thing that seems like an unimaginable nightmare before and a Godsend after. The death and rebirth of Western civilization. A human evolution revolution. Pretty cool, huh?"

    >Henry seems to think so, the others aren't so sure. This hijacking of a conversation and blowing it out is something I can do as easily as popping a balloon. I just take the subject to a more interesting level and show everyone how it looks from there. You'd think people would get offended, but I don't slow down for that and their initial reaction quickly subsides as they see that something different from conversation is happening, and they get on board.

    >I look around. No one speaks.

    >"Now compare that to these bland little lives you're dozing through. What are you really doing? Crawling toward cancer and heart disease and prolonged agonizing deaths. Am I wrong? Oh, one or two of you might get lucky and die in a car accident or have a heart attack in your sleep or be murdered by your spouse, but that's really the best you can hope for. None of you seem self-determined enough for suicide. Compare that cheery outlook to this worst-case scenario of yours. Sure, you probably wouldn't last long, but what a way to go! A world in flames! But you people don't want that because—what? You got something more important going, I guess. Like what? Your plans? Your careers? Your future? Your children? Your children are just less developed versions of you and their hope of breaking out of the cycle of denial is no better than yours. And even if it were, that's no reason. The only reason is fear. Your fear gives birth to your denial and your cozy, insular delusions of permanence and continuity. Look at yourselves, getting together so you can reaffirm each other's self-image fantasies and tell scary stories about how the big bad wolf could huff and puff and blow your world down. 'Wow, we really dodged a bullet there,' you say about this terror thing, but what you dodged was your own lives. Sorry to be such a bore. Got any cake?"

Why are NPCs so obsessed with the premise of societal collapse/the apocalypse? Don't they understand how irrevocably fricked they would be? This is not a recent phenomenon, either. Remember when all the brainlets were going wild back in 2012? when they thought it would be the "doomsday year"?

      > When an Indian Child has been brought up among us, taught our language and habituated to our Customs, yet if he goes to see his relations and make one Indian Ramble with them, there is no perswading him ever to return, and that this is not natural [to them] merely as Indians, but as men, is plain from this, that when white persons of either sex have been taken prisoners young by the Indians, and lived a while among them, tho’ ransomed by their Friends, and treated with all imaginable tenderness to prevail with them to stay among the English, yet in a Short time they become disgusted with our manner of life, and the care and pains that are necessary to support it, and take the first good Opportunity of escaping again into the Woods, from whence there is no reclaiming them.

It proves that everything people like you associate with sentience isn't actually evidence of sentience. Meanwhile the finer aspects of a sentient mind are nowhere to be found in a good chunk of the population.

            Anonymous

            >It proves that everything people like you associate with sentience
You make a lot of assumptions about your knowledge of "people like me" there.

One of the traits I personally associate with sapience (not the same as sentience, but important) is the ability to learn. For example, I have noticed that when I argue with Holocaust denialists, they will seem to learn for the duration of the thread - but when the thread locks and a new thread starts, they will reuse arguments that they *admitted* were flawed in the previous thread. In other words, many of the most active Nazis here are subhuman.

if society collapsed, everyone would get to participate in the power process again instead of being artificially handicapped by the "rules". It would be a true meritocracy, and everyone assumes they're good enough to make it.

This is an unrealistic fantasy. Primate social dynamics involve clique formation; society collapsing does NOT guarantee that the new dominant clique in your region will give YOU an opportunity to "participate in the power process" (Kaczinski) or "seek self-actualization" (the more usual phrasing.)

            >everyone would get to participate in the power process again
Bingo. This is what people crave and they don't even know a certain uncle coined a term for it.

            > they don't even know a certain uncle coined a term for it.
Did he actually coin it, or did he steal it from a better writer who had achieved the academic popularity that Kaczinski threw his freedom away just for a *chance* at?

People knew they liked post-apocalyptic fantasy decades before the detrans c**t started mailing bombs.

a lot of men are in survival-mode already, and so they want a desperate situation where women are desperate enough to sleep with them.

I mean, it's pretty clear that we are on the verge of massive social upheaval. There isn't a singe institution of Western society that is actually functioning correctly. The economy, government, education, media, military, churches; it's all irreparably broken. There doesn't seem to be any way out of it that doesn't involve some kind of revolution or civil war type event.
    >Don't they understand how irrevocably fricked they would be?
One mistake that the Left makes over and over is (wrongly) assuming that society will naturally progress into some kind of socialist utopia. That's why they call themselves "progressive." They create the conditions for revolution, but don't even bother to have any kind of framework or plan for actually making the transition to their socialist utopia because they assume everyone will just naturally embrace it for reasons.
That's what happened in Weimar, and the same thing is probably what is going to happen in the near future. The Modern Left basically just exists to push Frankfurt School Critical Theory on society until everything gets so shitty and unbearable that the population revolts against it and demands an alternative. And that parts seems to be going as planned. But they don't seem to realize that this revolution is going to have heavily armed, right wing, young men on one side, and a coalition of the most incompetent, inept, weak, morons imaginable on the other.

I think people may don't want to go to work tomorrow. And feel that the apocalypse might give them a life with more meaning

Because the average normie knows that technology has taken away some very fundamental human interactions that they don't get in their lives anymore or never had.

Absolutely nothing is stopping you from going out to the local bar or pub or church or bowling alley or the 9000 other places where normal people go to socialize and meet new people and have those kinds of fundamental human interactions that for some reason you seem to think is impossible today. Literally just turn off the computer and go outside and talk to people. Whatever excuse you will come up with for why doing that is supposedly impossible or pointless to try is just bullshit.
If anything, technology makes it much easier to communicate and socialize with other people.

You don't understand the kind of interactions I'm talking about. Interactions without feminism, for example. I think this conversation is above your head.

What the frick does that even mean? You sound like a Black person blaming "systemic racism" for why he is a Black person.

The collapse of faith white people have in their public institutions has led to the fantasy that a total societal collapse will happen.

I would die a long painful death after a societal collapse since without modern medicine my arthritis would kick in again and spread to the rest of my body so I'd inevitably have to kill myself.

Either that, or it will go away without the chronic inflammation caused by you eating, drinking and breathing poison every day of your life.

They are livin in a fantasy.
In imagination when the fall come they seriously believe they gonna make it and become some main character.

In reality when the fall come they become victim in the first 15 minutes and even if they survive a few year they best outcome are being cuck or serf under a local warlord.

    Funny not gonna lie

normies are ultimately fascinated and transfixed by death because they spend every waking moment of their lives otherwise vehemently ignoring and denying it being the sole truth and imminence awaiting them in their lives

        you're right...

considering how poorly Amazon handled Lord of the Rings, and the fact that they renewed it with the same writers despite it being received poorly, I have negative hopes for this Fallout series. even if it had a proper white male in the lead i wouldn't have any hope of it being good.

Because they internally know how rotten to the core modern society is, and inwardly want to see it collapse.
