Why?

What's funny is there's Internet tough guy mall ninjas who have bugout bags all prepped and brand new Jeeps and stuff who thing they'll offroad it right out of the cities, with the diverse hordes snapping at their heels, just in the nick of time.

Here's a protip for all you deluded losers STILL stuck in the cities - the government will close all the highways, which will be jammed up anyway. Every road and street. Helicopters and UAVs on the perimeters. You're not getting out. You're going to be bugging in. I suggest you sell your homosexual lifted trucks and invest in fire suppression equipment and fiberglass and sandbags.

Obama closed the roads when there was a government shutdown to the point where certain people were cut off by Federal Marshalls and couldn't even drive out of their neighborhoods, usually in grandfathered private properties inside National Forest land.

I bothered to print out some detailed maps of my area. I'm not going by highway, rural roads are best bet, then service roads by train tracks, then service roads along power lines. This is assuming that someone finally nukes NJ and the rest of the country is kind of intact. If SHTF everywhere, then time to find a sailboat.

Most prepper guys have no idea how long you can realistically and comfortably camp. Assuming well access with water, you'd still need resupply every week or two and at that point you might as well just start a farm.
Also unless if you have a lot of vehicles and people you're just going to find out everyone else had the same idea of taking over the mountains and woods with compounds and communes.
Basically you're fricked either way unless you go full self sufficient and well rounded farmer king strategy.

      >yeah bro just grow everything you need without access to anything beyond what you have
Can you show an example of this ever happening beyond that russian family who all died and became inbred moronic fricks?
Anon even actual farmers go to the literal tractor stores and shit at least like a month and almost none of them grew for subsistence.

        Anonymous

I never said you'd never need to make a run to the store, but when you have a farm and extra labor and food you can suddenly start trading at whatever market place does open up with the locals and probably not have to rely on it as heavily.
Society and community will rebuild near immediately in most disasters, producing resources is what gives people leverage.
My point is that you can own the farm, work for someone else, or get shot like a raider bandit on the perimeter. People seem to think it will just be an endless camping trip until everything goes back to normal all of a sudden.

Actually they were fine until rediscovered. They died after been reintroduced to contagious diseases (another victims of Covid...). Last of them Agafia Lykova is still alive, age 78, though she receives numerous help from outside world.
All things considered they held quite well. Religion really works.

        >almost none of them grew for subsistence.
That's just because real farmers want to actually make money. You do that through mechanization investments and monoculture growth.
Subsistence farming is tricky, especially if you're trying to plan around "the world is ending." You need tools that date back to circa 1900... horse drawn stuff, hit-and-miss motors that can run on pressed oils. This sort of thing is profitless and really hard work once you have to do things like harvest grains and literally everything else you consume.
Basing an entire life on it, for a scenario that isn't likely to ever happen, seems like a waste of a life.

          Anonymous

Micro-ranching is the answer to your subsistence farming problems. Grow animals and some gardening synergistically, sell meat and eggs or live animals and don't even worry about some kind of collapse.

Nobody is buying an offroad JUST for SHTF, they will just use the one thwy already have in that eventuality. And something like the pic you posted is insane yo buy just for the off chance youll need it when society collapses.

No way anon, or at least not if you've got a vehicle. I've done 3-4 week outdoors trips with zero resupply very comfortably with food to spare, by loading up a canoo and following rivers/lake systems. And that was with serious energy expenditure by me, paddingly and hiking all over, never in the same place each night, going entire days. Zero electronics either, and I wasn't even optimizing with fancy light weight gear. If you were just loading up a vehicle and driving out somewhere near water and staying put it'd be far easier. "Comfort" of course is pretty relative but I was fine under my tarp in a sleeping bag on a pad in September/October in Maine. Winter would be much more challenge of course, but if you've got multiple tons of cargo to work with still very doable.

That's not to say it's something everyone can just buy their way too if you don't do it regularly but no you don't need to resupply weekly. People who do that are making a choice because they want to travel light and cover more ground, like hiking the Appalachian Trail and know they can lean on various stopping points.

The key to a successful LARP is for it to be believable. let me guess you just carried 40 lbs of pure fat for calories right?

OP is generally correct about this. That also isn't going to change the fact that most of the people 87 miles into bum frick egypt are still going to be low to mid level loot drops for some fat asses with a 500 dollar poverty pony, holosun, gas can and lighter while they sleep.

You are not going to be able to start a farm without modern tools without taking years and years and years of preperation and training - and you're going to need to do it somewhere you already prepared, too, which, if you're bugging out, is going to be unlikely.

'I'll just become a farmer lol' is such a fricking cope. It will take a large-ish community to restart farming, not you and your drinking buddies.

        Anonymous

This is true, the entire concept of "bug out" is for reasonable, localized problems. Which of course are the only ones that are likely to happen (and be survivable at all). Fire, flood, or other natural disasters. Localized disturbance/riots. You go to another area which is fine and wait it out then come back. Or not, but it's still regular civilization wherever you go.

If you really think some silly post-apoc larp in coming you should be building a home and establishing or joining and socializing with a community in some rural area with decent natural resources.

And yeah not just "farming" but ANYTHING. One of the real signs of urban larp is that they constantly underrate the skill and sheer work and risk actually being self-sufficient takes. How inefficient it is. If you don't actually live it for a good number of years while you can lean on others you're not just going to pick it up well on the fly lol.

Is bugging in really all that much better tho, especially if you are a citygay?

        Anonymous

Yes. It is massively better. Your neighbors do not want to get murdered to death or sold as slaves either. Family units will not be large enough to self sustain or fight off attackers for very long at all. By simple virtue of proximity and a shared interest in survival your neighbors will become your tribe in short order if you wish to survive. You want to survive serious shtf? Start having barbeques/block parties and some sort of neighborhood watch or outreach program. Use those to springboard off to some reasonable disaster preparedness/response plans for your area to get people on the right page. Keep the WROL/TEOTWAWKI stuff to yourself unless it becomes a thing. Bugging out is the most dangerous thing you can do in shtf, only ever do it if there's literally no other choice and death is guaranteed if you don't. Your best case reasonable expectation should be "so what if I'm a serf and have to take it up the ass every once in a while? Beats staying here.", Otherwise stay there.

yeah but not by much. citygays will all be fricked no matter what if it gets to the point of complete societal collapse, they'll most likely starve or shit themselves to death from unclean water. too many people in one area is only possible because of modern tech and infrastructure

If you have a nice neighborhood you could not only repel invaders and cut them off from access, incursions would be easy to keep them aware that they can't go near your area of the city. It's all in the standard literature.

Ironically the most practical vehicle I have for bugging out will get the most attention
    >Moderate mpg (18 normally, 20 if I keep it at 55)
    >4wd
    >Decent amount of cargo room
    >Extra lighting
    >Smaller size for tight squeezes
I think I'd drive this while my wife is in her smaller car following and we see how far we get before having to go off road. Sadly the land tank (3+to SUV) will have to stay cause it's 2wd with an open diff, so absolutely useless off pavement. Now if it's like every apocalypse show, I've also got a classic carbed muscle car that I can get away in style. But I wouldn't get very far.

            >For some reason SUVs don't get enough love from car collectors.
Because most SUV's are soccer mom mobiles. Just regular cars with higher ground clearance that makes road safety worse for everyone and worse fuel efficiency than regular cars. No one is going appreciate those until we reach time when people that had those as their family car when they were kids being driven around by soccer mom. Very few people are going to have nostalgia boner over SUV's as the car they wanted when they were young and could not afford it. Those aren't interesting vehicles when it comes to technology, that cuts off one group of collectors. Then we can get to proper 4x4 off roaders that make up minority of modern SUV's. Some brands like Mercedes have ceased to sell proper versions of SUV's to civilians because utilitarian all terrain vehicle isn't part of their brand image. They sell the proper version only to military, police and corporate users like electric utility2 companies. Civilian users can't buy G-Wagen with 2.7l or 3.2l diesel, just with all the luxuries and 4l gasoline V-8 or 6l whatever displacement they have for V-12.
            >Toyota MegaCruiser
All 100 or so of those that were sold to civilians and all exports have been private purchases from Japan for 2nd hand vehicles. It is something that might not exist at all until Japanese self defense force starts to surplus theirs. m

Also they only made like, 3000 or something total before it got discontinued. Even if/when the JSDF sells 'em off it's still going to be pretty tiny numbers. And I think the military modified a chunk of them into SAM trucks as well equipped with Type-93s. Depending on how easy it is to convert back those might all just get scrapped when they reach EOL.

Before you plan too much on moving two vehicles you should consider how much gas will be at your disposal. It's difficult stuff to keep stores of and in an emergency you must expect gas stations to run dry within the first day. If you move two cars your fuel needs will be about double.

Worth it for the ability to carry more supplies and have an alternative transport if a vehicle goes down. Convoying is always the way to go. That's why it's mandatory on a lot of offroading areas.

Where I would be going is within range of 1 tank of the explorer, and the wife's car gets 40mpg. On top of having more than enough range with either vehicle, I also have 2 other vehicles (that hold approximately 50gal of gas between them) that I could take fuel from to take with me (I've got multiple Jerry cans). The supplies I'd take with us is well worth taking both vehicles.

I agree with you that this whole "get muh SKS go inna woods wif muh bug out bag" delusion has gotten incredibly out of hand.

    THAT SAID:
I actually have a kind of "bug out bag" of my own that I have actually used on more than one occasion. Not for the zombie ninja pirate apocalypse as /k/ids pretend is going to happen any day now, but because I live in a very hurricane-prone state (Florida) and because of regular natural disasters I either have to deal with an interruption to utilities (power, water) or I really do have to leave wherever I'm living and go to a safer area for a while. I don't camp in the woods though, I find a motel room for a few days.

That's what a real bug out bag should be for. When I lived in Alaska my dad kept sleeping bags and other stuff in the car in case we some how got stranded while out driving. If you live in an area that is prone to natural disasters you should have a bag with essentials already packed and ready to go in case you need to evacuate. That way you can leave faster and not have to worry about forgetting something because the things you need should be packed already and your car should have more stuff in the trunk so can live in the car with relative comfort if traveling by car is still possible.

You a limp wristed homosexual liberal huh? What is it like being completely worthless? If you wanna hide in a hole at your parents house and be a whiny little b***h that's your choice. Your electric car wouldn't get you very far anyways.

Bugging in is perfect because that's where all your stuff is. Unless you live in a city, then you're fricked.

I wasn't planning to leave. My little brother and my cousin both live innacity and I'm reasonably close, so they can come get spare arms, ammo, and food from me if they need it.

Just gonna go after all those that have kids and wives and shit- It's amazing what happens when you turn married men into bachelors, they break down, drop their sight acquisition, and tend to be wounded. While I get silly on a homie with my blicky.

Nobody is buying an offroad JUST for SHTF, they will just use the one thwy already have in that eventuality. And something like the pic you posted is insane yo buy just for the off chance youll need it when society collapses.

Have an offroad capable vehicle because you will need it to go anywhere.

Just look at the routes out of Seattle. Highways 5, 2, 410 would be closed by troops. Hell they almost seemed ready to do something like that during covid. Truck tard will end up being just another zombie coming from the highway to the rural folks who own homes in the area. For many of those "bug out" types with the shiny trucks they still owe 50k on, it will be a countdown to whether they end up in a FEMA camp or on the wrong end of a stand your ground case, as soon as their urban crotchfruit run out of baby formula. .

/k/ has no Chance of fighting off 3-5x intruders with AR15s. Same reason why Ukrainians struggle with normal 1:3 defense ratio. 1:3 ratio means you also die in the end.
