Both are run by authoritarians with Muslim undertones and the populations are moronic. Everyone with a brain leaves for Moscow at age 18, which tells you about the sorry state of these "countries". 50% of the economy is gibs they get from workers in Russia.

        Anonymous

I think it’s closer to 25%, which is still one of the highest rates in the world.

The Tajik economy is basically all raw minerals. Seems they have no refining capabilities, but they do have one of the largest aluminum refineries in the region, which I’m guessing is a Soviet relic.

Kind of wish I was a warlord there, I would be making blood diamond deals with Africa and pushing israeliteelry out, and using those proceeds to expand mining and refining capabilities.

All while I hang my opponents from crosses.

Yeah. When the Soviet Union fell, whoever was the party boss of a given 'stan just became the new president for life. Keep in mind that these places were so poor that they didn't ask to leave the Soviet Union, they were actually forced to because Moscow didn't want to subsidize them any more.

So it's an extremely backwards, dysfunctional part of the world even by post-Soviet standards.

The only notable section of straight borders I see are Uzbekistan’s western border (where nobody lives) and a couple of the autonomous republics within the RSFSR. Otherwise most of these borders are about as straight as you are.

Stalin and his successors literally drew the borders so that these SSRs would have ethnic minority enclaves that made independence for these regions difficult since the minorities knew they'd be at the mercy of the majority groups if they gained independence. N-K is the most well known example that we know that was done deliberately by him.

This is the Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan border and totally an example of borders meant to create problems down the line.

Stalin. He gave Ukraine Southern Bassarabia, then gave Moldova troonysistria, to save myself a lot of googling and remembering all the territories, I’m just going to say he pretty much fricked over every single SSR member with territorial dispute on purpose so they can never break away from the USSR without having a breakaway minority region and civil war. Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict can also be linked to this for example.

He also did his magic in Crimea. It used to have a huge Tatar minority so he ordered their deportation to Central Asia then installed Russian settlers to replace them. It was made easier by the fact that Soviets had already thinned them out with massacres and famines beforehands. And before that the Russian Empire had done more of the same, causing many to escape to the Ottoman Empire. In the end, it took between 100 to 150 years for the entire Tatar population of the peninsula to be replaced with Russians. Not as bad as what happened to Circassia, which was a proper genocide, but par for the course for Russia.
Keep that in mind whenever someone claim Crimea is ancestral Russian clay and Ukraine should just let it go.

Tajiks speak a language closely related to Farsi, and consider themselves to be an Iranian people, as opposed to the Turkic speaking peoples in most of the rest of Central Asia. Afghan isn’t an ethnicity, it’s an amalgamation of all the different ethnic groups in Afghanistan. There are actually more Tajiks in Afghanistan than in Tajikistan.

Most Pashtuns haven’t lived in Afghanistan since the early 19th century, after the collapse of the Afghan empire. Pashtuns don’t even make up a majority of the population and nowadays way more live in Pakistan, that’s part of the reason why the Taliban got so much support from across the border.

Afghanistans current borders were drawn long after the Pashtuns stopped Black personing out and settled. These guys used to do nothing productive, just sacking the the carcass of the Mughal Empire back in the 18th century until the Brits provided them a competent army of local hires with European training that could beat medieval cavalry charges

The politburo deliberately prevented one ethnicity to dominate each republic in Central Asia, so that it would be hard for them to rebel and form a separatist movement. Not only the local ethnicity, but also by settling other non-Central Asian ethnicity like Russians, Ukrainians, israelites, etc.

nation states that hate each other and have fricked borders and enclaves because soviet union are fighting over a river because water it's only limited intensity border clashes though some regular military units are probably involved like last time
kyrgzystan by far stronger though has over twice the active manpower and budget and have actually bought a few post soviet systems and has an actual air force while tajiks only operate old soviet equipment air force is only a few helicopters and main tank is t-62 in a fraction the number kyrgyzs have t-72 picrel is tajikistan soldiers in 1980 during the soviet invasion of afghani- wait no that's them in 2021

The important takeaway is that these places are in Russia's sphere of influence and that sphere of influence is collapsing before our very eyes. Same goes for the new Nagorno-Kabawhatever conflict that started heating up again just a week or two ago. The outcome isn't really important to anyone outside of the area though.

Both are shitholes but Tajikistan started it so, they're ultimately in the wrong.

The borders are Russia's fault, it's not acceptable to take out your frustration on the Kyrgyz.

    >The Kyrgyzstani Ministry of Emergency Situations has declared a State of Emergency in the Batken Region of the Country where the majority of Heavy Fighting between itself and Tajikistani Forces have taken place, citizens within the Region are being asked to Evacuate Immediately.
Looks like the 3rd ceasefire did not last.

I wonder if the Kyrgyz president will follow through with his threat of total mobilization/martial law if the Tajiks don't pull back today? I don't feel like either side really has the capability to do all that much though unless other countries get involved.

China should just annex the 2 shitholes and gas the muzzies, caucasoids and russo-mutts polluting that beautiful desert. Or genocide them the western way - deny them work and laugh as they starve on the streets.

Russia had a deliberate strategy of encouraging conflicts in the region, making sure they never get resolved, and then inserting themselves as the peacekeeper to bolster their influence. Now everyone sees the RuAF are shit and that all their capacity is in Ukraine, so it's open season everywhere else.
