Well ~1000 years, but that was when the world was basically China as the developed world and everyone else being shithole medieval shitholes.
Times changed. Now Vietnam can put up a good front because modern war machines are force multipliers and force of arms are equal enough on one front if China doesn't go total war mode.
pretty sure the USSRs policy was that if China ever invaded them they would just immediately nuke them and they were kind of pissing themselves at the thought of a war with China
Pretty sure OP doesn't mean the gay little border wars.
[...]
The Chinkoids and Soviets fought unofficial wars. Nothing big but lots of bugmen and churkas getting killed anyway. To be honest any smart nuclear nation would simply genocide the Chinese if invaded by them because there's no reason to hold back.
Not OP but let's assume during the time of the Sino-Soviet split.
China and the USSR fought a war in 1969. The USSR won because they foiled Chinese attempts at annexing parts of the Russian Far East.
The USSR wanted to nuke Beijing at the time but the US warned them not to.

>soviets were shitting themselves at the prospect of a full scale war with chinks
I mean mostly because they feared America would take advantage of it by wiping them out. Which - let's be honest - if we were going to deliver a final solution to the Russian question, it would've been in 1946 or 47, and there would have been nothing to stop us.
Their plan to reap a bugman crop with atom bombs to quickly end any major war before it could become complicated was a solid one.
Soviets. No question. In the armed border skirmishes the Chinese were annihilated every time.
However pre 1980 the soviets would have a really bad time trying to actually invade China, because every fucking blade of grass would have a militia hiding behind it armed with 50 year old mortars and WWII era anti aircraft guns. Post 1980 the Chinese would not really have that but would have a more unified and professional army
Fallaci: Will you allow me an observation on this point, Mr. Deng? The Chinese always say that they are not afraid of the Soviet Union, that you are ready to face them. But how can you believe that you can compete with the tremendous efficiency of the Soviet military machine?
Deng: [He laughs]. Eh! China is poor and our military is backwards, I agree. But we have our traditions, you know. And for quite some time, using inadequate and miserable equipment, we have cultivated the art of defeating well-armed enemies. Our territory is extremely vast, and in this vast territory the people have learned the necessary resistance for a long war — to bend the strength of others through their weaknesses. Whoever wants to invade China should remember this truth, and I believe that the Soviets remember it well. Many people continue to predict that the Soviet Union’s next target will be China, and some friends even pass us information to prove to us that the Soviets are amassing troops along the Chinese borders and border regions. But we simply say that this has never been a secret, and that invading China is a very big step for them. Even if they were able to occupy Beijing and all the lands to the north of the Yellow Sea, for us the war would be just beginning. No, there’s no need to mythologize Soviet military superiority when you talk about China. The Afghan guerrillas are very active in Afghanistan, you know. And in China we have a lot of space — I repeat, a lot of people.
Fallaci: I think I understand the tradition you’re alluding to, Mr. Deng — the one that consists in beckoning your enemy in and saying sweetly, “Come in, my dears, come in. Make yourselves comfortable. Then you’ll see what happens. Who will ever see you again?”
Deng: [He laughs loudly]. Look, I don’t know about a lot of things. I don’t know much about the economy. But I know about war. I know how war is fought.
Fallaci: The fact is that probably no one will have time to fight, Mr. Deng, because war with China means world war; world war means nuclear war; and nuclear war means the end of the world.
Deng: I agree with the first part of your statement; if the USSR invades, it will not be a local war. I do not agree with the second part of your statement, however; it’s not certain that World War Three will be a nuclear war. In my opinion, this is because both sides have nuclear weapons, and there is a strong possibility that World War Three will be fought with conventional warfare.
The rest of the world.
When, and are we assuming full escalation? Because is likely right.
Not OP but let's assume during the time of the Sino-Soviet split.
china before deng was a complete shithole, USSR hands down

Their most recent war would say otherwise

Status quo antebellum, just like when it happened in real life

like you said though those were gay little border skirmishes. soviets were shitting themselves at the prospect of a full scale war with chinks

The Soviet Union. At the height of their power, they were able to seriously present themselves as a superpower. Even now, China can't do that.
