    Stop supporting patent trolls

That’s not really a patent troll thing. You can actually buy a SawStop and they’re supposed to be solid, albeit a little more expensive than a similar megacorp saw. It’s gay that they sued Bosch with a better design, but read the Wiki. The Sawstop dude tried to license his design to the big companies and got sick of them being shitty corporate machines so decided to sell the things himself. It would be far more lame if one of the big corps bought the patent for real cheap, screwed the designer, then overpriced their Stanley Sawbrake and sued everybody else with a similar design.

Patent lawsuits are gay, but it keeps amateur engineer guy from being run over by the mega corps and he was able to get his own company started.

How about YOU do a bit of research and read where he was lobbying the federal government to MANDATE sawstop mechanisms in ALL tablesaws.
Also it 100% IS patent trolling to use extremely vague verbage to sue Bosch and their superior system.

The guy is as big of a homosexual as you are.

Wrong, when manufacturers had real concerns about the serious downstream implications of implementing his system he did the same lazy shit you are doing by ascribing evil motives to them, and after they didn't act like he was some kind of savior he tried to force a situation where manufacturers would be mandated by law to install a stop system that met "safety" parameters that only his patented system just so happened to meet at the time.

"With the big tool companies declining to participate, SawStop is seeking other ways to make sure its technology is adopted. In April 2003, the company filed a petition with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to make SawStop-like technology standard on all table saws. "

When that didn't work fast enough and the patent clock ticking away he started making his own to salvage some of the potential of that failed effort and now he's resorted to suing everyone who tries to make a system that is in any way similar, based on scads of patents he obtained in his quest to corner the market on active blade stop technology. Which proves that its really not about making saws safer since now he's throwing up roadblocks after vilifying the industry for not implementing similar systems.
It's not exactly patent trolling in the typical sense, but its absolutely manipulation of the legal and patent systems for self serving ends along with retaliation towards the companies that didn't give him what he wanted and kiss his ass and glorify him as a hero.
If he wanted to be an altruistic hero who helped thecwirld be safer he could have released the tech into the public domain like Volvo did with three point safety belts; part of his David vs Goliath shtick is how cheap and easy it was for a layman to invent. But he won't ever do that.

Ok then maybe his factory needs to burn down. I should’ve known there was something more when it said he was a patent lawyer and part time woodworker.

It’s only a few more years before the patent expires, right?

And what’s the full story with him and Ryobi? Like they had a deal but he got pissed at them for something small?

Yes, for a moronic 8% royalty fee from the wholesale price of every single saw.

will sawstop hold it's value over say 20-50 years? seems like all those electronic parts will be hard to service. can't imagine people will covet them like they do vintage table saws today.

Such fricking bullshit, running your ha d through a table saw blade is 100% operator error / poor choices and for every person who does it once there are thousands upon thousands of cuts made on table saws of all sizes that are 100% injury free.
If you want a system to protect you from your own bad decisions then by all means get one, but frick OOH with blaming tools and the people who make them.

          They do, the ICS.

They sell a 5 and 7.5HP version as well.

I have a PCS and it is a very good saw, it was expensive but in its class it is the best in addition to the safest.
