May as well be on a different tier entirely, then. Even the FAL has chroming, anon.

Something that surprised me was the DSA ones are noticeably more accurate and reliable than even some of the official licensed MFGs.
All that marketing around them using the original STG58 tooling doesn't seem to just be hype so far.

How well does that work for clips? I think I remember reading people were having lots of issues pending what clips you use so I ended up getting the full-length rail without the direct clip loading capability. I haven't installed it yet because I can't decide on an optic and the gun looks great without it.

Didn't know there is 762 sig like that. Is that a 542? Look up the weight and empty gun is 3.55 lb. It is as light as most 556 rifles while other 762 are at 9 pounders. Is this the power of sheet metal and tiny lower with no mag well?

    Dear ktards
I know frick all about guns. But for assault/battle rifles, 20 round magazines seem dumb to me. Some one explain the reasoning.

      Anonymous

30 rounds of .308 is heavy as frick
For smaller calibres early on it had to do with reliability. If you look at how many bad mags are still in circulation in 2024, 30 rounders are a mature but not perfect technology

      Anonymous

30 rounds of a full power rifle cartridge is very long and keeps you from going as low when prone.

        Anonymous

A FAL 30 rounder isn't much longer than an AK mag

          Anonymous

AK mags are also very long and keep you from getting as low when prone. 7.62x39 has a substantially wider case head than most modern intermediate rounds.

    Resident Wumbologist

On paper the SCAR or 416 would be best. AR style multi lug bolts engaging a barrel extension works really well for accuracy and keeping both cost/weight down. I have shot a SCAR and it was overall pretty nice, but I don't like that they designed it around a proprietary magazine pattern that has oblong feed lips.

    I currently have a FAL, G3 and M14 clone.
Of the three, the FAL is my least favorite. It looks great and has good controls but unremarkable shooting characteristics. It's picky with ammunition, accuracy is mediocre, sights are crummy, magazines are expensive and hard to find. It's just not a winner.
M14 is more traditional and has quirks to be sure. I like the traditional feel of it, I like the safety, I love the sights, I don't need to adjust it's gas system, accuracy is pretty good and it runs any ammunition I care to throw into it. It's an outdated design though and doing more with it is like petting a cat backwards. The action is exposed, mechanical accuracy is limited and while I have mastered magazine changes they are slow.
G3 is the winner for me. It's heavy, clunky and had a horrible trigger but it was cheap (Century C308), has been completely reliable, magazines are cheap, optics ready out of the box (welded rail), acceptable accuracy and I got used to the charging handle/magazine release over time. The lack of a last round bolt hold open and it's inherent weight are the only two issues I wasn't able to correct. Also wide handguards are a mandatory upgrade.

By "these point" you probably mean the last 5 years. It still impressive how they are still using battle rifles into the late 2010's while the last white nation to use battle rifles already switched in the mid 1990's.

SCAR, no contest. Most reliable, really nice shooter (just not to optics), is a proper modern battle rifle, modular, easy to deal with parts replacement even if it is expensive, accurate. G3 kinda sucks, FAL very much sucks even though they look great, M14 is the worst of the bunch, can't comment on the 417/G27k just by virtue of never owning one or handling one.

M14/M1A is a great rifle. heavy, but great. i like the G3, i still want one, they're just so goddamned expensive. AR10 is basic and soulless, bland, but it does work reliably and they have impeccable accuracy. FAL was the rifle of the free world for good reason, but it's finicky and doesn't always handle dust and dirt well. 4 is just bizarre to look at and i don't like it at all, and the scar is just heavy bullshit that's way overpriced.
