    Just use foam earplugs.
It's not like you have any friends to talk to.

The cheapest offering would be a used 3 as they don't make new ones anymore and to save even more money get the defender series as that has no down lead microphone unless you need to connect to a radio and talk to friends or family then you'll want the down lead model.
The 5 replaced the 3 and is the current standard of a basic electric ear pro offering by peltor/3m. Again they offer a defender model and a standard down lead model for radio comms.
6 and 7 are the latest and greatest offering with 7s being just released earlier this year or late last year or something like that. The just expensive offering and if you need to have the latest tech then so be it, buy the 7.

The ones you wear when shot goes down. Had some cheap as shit earpro during my tours in Afghanistan, always had them on. No hearing damage.

Most guys I served with had Gucci comtac hearing protection but now have tinnitus because they were uncomfortable after wearing them for hours.

    IVs
Its incredible to me that they went Keltec cocaine at the product meeting mode and decided to make full headset earpro that didnt cover the ears. I had to get a set just for that, although I still have a back up set of IIIs on rail adaptors. Realistically I couldnt pay $600 for VIs or new IIIs because i dont use comms that many times a year, but $300 for good used ones is ok.

IVs were for breachers and humid as frick envionrments. over-hear offers no overpressure protection hence the in-ear plug.

I got them from my gustav gunner friend because he switched to duals. they work really well for overpressure

Most modern one you want is the V. it’s the successor to the III which is discontinued. VI has a built in walkie talkie like thing that connects automatically to other VI headsets so SWAT or whoever can talk to each other without a radio or something. Useless feature that adds weights and kills battery life.

      >adds weights
Very little, it's just a small radio chip after all. But killing battery quicker is true though.

I found there are the VIIs

VIIs are basically VIs with the added feature of NFMI ear plugs like the Ops-Core AMPs and improved near field radio communication with other VIIs. I've been trying to find out if the VIs and VIIs are compatible to talk to each other when they are near by but alas practically no one owns VIIs but LEO and Mil.

So they're not compatible with normal earplugs?

I'm doubling up with 3M EAR Classic Plus (33 dB NRR)

They are it's just that the NFMI ear plugs let you have better electronic audio pass through and gives you extra protection like a standard ear plug foam would.
The VIs does not have this feature so you are only able to use foam ear plug if you needed/wanted the extra layer of ear protection.

Best are the 4s, but I wouldn't get those. They give off a really larpy vibe
