i like the LAM on it, its why i got it
i wish more lasers had a picrail on them, then i'd actually think about getting them & some NVGs

RDB-S needs a flush-fitting magazine. Would also be way cooler if it came with a bipod like the steyr scout's.

i got some 10rd mags from when i was in cali, no idea where they are though
when i was posting i thought about it, but whatever

saying a scout rifle shouldn't be bolt action is genuinely dishonest, that was 100% the intent of the rifles because semi autos weren't even in Cooper's mindset as being reliable in that day and age

and some criticisms were drawn based on the silly comparison to a Steyr Scout, like the magazine in the stock, even though Cooper never specified this

also an RDB won't hit anything with any force at 500 yards, isn't .308, and isn't reliable

so yes if we just change the requirements for a Scout rifle or we just completely change the RDB to something it isn't, then it's a Scout rifle

                >saying a scout rifle shouldn't be bolt action is genuinely dishonest
I didn't say the shouldn't be, and Cooper himself said semis could be scouts as well if they met the requirements.

                >also an RDB won't hit anything with any force at 500 yards, isn't .308
.308 isn't a requirement, Cooper also advocated 7mm-08 and .243 Winchester. The requirement is for a full-power cartridge. I'd argue that 6.5 Grendel counts since it has more energy at 300+ yards than 80's .308 loads (especially considering the extra barrel length), but that's getting off into the weeds. That's why I specified .25 WSSM, which is absolutely a full-power cartridge and is in fact more powerful at the muzzle than the Cooper-approved .243 Winchester.

                >muh reliability
RDB is fine, get over yourself.

If .308 is a requirement, why did Cooper spend so much time shilling for 7mm-08?

don't move the goalposts bro, we all know Scout rifles are supposed to be in .308

                Anonymous

You're being disingenuous, Cooper specifically cited 7mm-08 and .243 as acceptable alternative chamberings, and only specified .308 as a "nominal" and not "required" chambering. Any full-power cartridge fits the requirement, although long or magnum sized actions might not be possible to meet the weight requirements.

so then an RDB isn't qualified as a Scout rifle because it's chambered in an intermediate cartridge

homies be trollin with this shit

                Anonymous

                Never said it was. See

No, .223 is an intermediate cartridge. But fortunately it's possible to convert firearms between cartridges by swapping the barrel and bolt. It would be difficult if not impossible to make the RDB work with a longer cartridge than .223, but fortunately there exists a line of full-power cartridges with the same length as .223: WSSM. The largest of these, .25 WSSM, fires a projectile almost exactly between the Cooper-approved 7mm-08 and .243, with slightly more muzzle energy than either.

Alternatively, if that were too much effort and you were comfortable with bending the rules slightly, 6.5 Grendel is a factory chambering for the RDB-S. Although Grendel is not more powerful than .223, it's provisioned for a much longer and more aerodynamic projectile, and can actually match many loadings of .308 in downrange energy.

                and

Why shouldn't I? Convert it to .25 WSSM and it's a scout rifle.

                .

Also see the original post that started the argument, where a feature of the steyr scout was pointed out without calling the RDB a scout:

RDB-S needs a flush-fitting magazine. Would also be way cooler if it came with a bipod like the steyr scout's.

if the argument is that the RDB is a Scout rifle, that's false. if the argument is that it could be one, that's true. you'd just need to change several fundamental aspects of it like the caliber, the action, add iron sights, and make it reliable

                Anonymous

We covered this as well, here:

                >Not a requirement
                >Only a requirement for bolt actions
                >Not a requirement
                >Meets the requirement
                >Not a requirement, although a full power cartridge (like .25 WSSM) is
                >That's like, just your opinion, man

. Bolt action is not a requirement, iron sights are specifically not necessary, and the RDB is plenty reliable if you're not a moron. You would need to rechamber it to be considered a scout in the strictest sense, but since practically all scouts are badly overweight, the RDB-S in 6.5 Grendel might actually closer to meeting the complete scout spec than the Steyr or Ruger scouts.

Why wouldn't you just say an RFB instead of RDB, one is already a .308.

                Anonymous

I just pointed out that it would be cool if the RDB-S had an integral bipod like the Steyr Scout and some moron lost his shit. But I think the RDB-S is interesting because of its light weight, and its traditional grip is evocative of classics like the scouts, and I could see modifying one to be a modern scout rifle. On the other hand, the RFB is a boring backwards AR10 that doesn't meet the weight requirement and isn't scout-like at all.

You know, you could fit a 28" barrel in an RDB and it would still be shorter than a scout. Might even have close to the same muzzle energy with the extra 10"

Yes, and that's why Cooper said 7.62 tokarev is fine but .243 Winchester shouldn't be used.

                Anonymous

                >Clearly when someone talks about a .30 cal rifle they are talking about 7.62 tokerev.

You would also be wrong if you meant 7.62x39 or .300 BLK or .300 winmag. Cooper was very specific that it's the power level that's important and not the diameter of the bullet. The other two cartridges he specifically recommended for the scout are .308 necked to .284 and .308 necked to .243. Both of those are obviously .308 class in power, and obviously neither of them are .30 caliber.

You made a stupid comparison, Steyr and Keltec aren't even in the same realm when it comes to quality or engineering. I don't understand why you think I was comparing Keltec and Steyr at all. Keltec is known for making guns with party trick features, and the Steyr Scout's integrated bipod is nifty, just the kind of thing Keltec might do. I did say I thought the RDB-S would fit the scout rifle criteria but that's hardly a comparison to Steyr, half a dozen companies have made factory scout rifles, and people have converted rifles from dozens more. Maybe a converted RDB-S would be less of a scout than the Steyr, but it could still be more of a scout than someone's custom scoutified Remington.

Only 25 of the original 550 snipers were imported back in the 90's and last one I saw for sale was over $21k.
JDI did a one time import of new production snipers with a black finish and picatinny rails but without the sniper furniture but that was back in like 2018 and only because they had the barrels on hand.
Only 60 of those were imported and probably not gonna happen again.

Ergos take a bit of time to get, if you have fricked with an AUG or a PTR, the changing handle is similar but ambidextrus, the bolt release is weird because of the pinch, but doing it often will make it easier. It shoots everything I have thrown at it and hasn't issues with my various mags.

I agree, and its also very reliable. No break-in needed, I shot 300 rounds through with zero issues. Just smooth shootin'. Sights are nice, but I could take it or leave. I would really cream my pants if steyr or trijicon came out with trapezoid night sights. The after-market is abysmal, the only down side to this gun.

No good rifle has its stock broken from being slammed on the ground.

        Anonymous

it's a design flaw and they should've just made the stock a monolithic piece if they were going to use a brittle plastic, likely would've been stronger

that being said people have reported the actual grips breaking off of their RDBs so maybe it's some manufacturing issue, polymers are tricky to get right and usually the safest solution is to just make them super dense and thus a heavier rifle. RDB is lighter than a Tavor but it's less durable, that's just a tradeoff I guess. they are kinda cool guns IMO but not worth the pricetag.

right well that's it really. if it was a major problem you'd see more duct tape in photos of RDBs.
as for the stocks being "prone to breaking" they are just hunks solid polymer so I mean if people are breaking them I'm sure its from aggressive mortaring.

I have the biggest love hate relationship with the survival because its the coolest little rifle concept on the planet but its made by fricking Kel-tec so it might as well be a pile of shit

one of the reasons I never considered RDB is because of the glass stock, this looks way better. Keltec should be selling them with this stock not the piece of shit that cracks like peanut brittle.

The stock wont crack if you keep it folded, which happens to be the most comfortable position

they should've just made it one solid piece, that weird tail that hangs out is a bad design IMHO

either that or make it out of metal and put a rubber skin over it, kinda like that Manticore arms buttpad for the Tavors. even if you don't plan to mortar the gun you may very well need to bash a commie's skull in with it someday

My VHS is very reliable. Haven't had a single malfunction since the initial ~200rd break in where it didn't like steel. Feeds good brass, turkish trash brass, old russian steel case, zero issues. I can tell you have no experience.
