Top of your pocket (holsterless pocket carry is a distinct advantage of a snubnose revolver), jacket, whatever. If you're using an actual holster, its a lot less likely. There is a distinct reason that shrouded hammers, exposed spurless hammers, and shit like picrel exist.
The hammer on the 638 is not going to get caught on anything. It's just not possible. I carried this thing for about 5 years and that never happened once.
These guns can be shot a lot more accurately than most people give them credit for. It does take some time to get used to shooting them but they can hit consistently quite a bit farther than point blank.
My hands are bigger than yours, and it doesn't matter because the reciprocating hammer on a shrouded hammer will hit the web of your hand if you have it as high as you can on a hammerless
snubbie engagement range is nearly point blank
"engagement range" with my LCR is anything bigger than a squirrel
this makes it instantly better than almost every other option from S&W (although it already was better because external hammers on any CCW gun are just lint collectors)
Shooting while grappling with someone or in a really confined space, impossible to induce a malfunction through improper grip. I've seen people who are somewhat competent handgun shooters do shit like picrel when introduced to a shot timer, stress (even in small quantities) can make you do stupid shit if you haven't practiced.
A revolver is pretty much impossible to induce a malfunction in, and is entirely adequate for 99% of civilian defensive shootings.
seems like grabbing and pinching a revolver cylinder hard enough to keep it from turning would be much harder than grabbing and pushing a slide slightly out of battery
sure but its stupid to act like the revolver is invulnerable to any malfunctions caused by brawling. revolver stans absolutely rely on this idea to justify their behavior when all they have to do is say 'i like revolvers'
In a brawl, an autoloading pistol has at most one shot before a malfunction needs to be cleared, and preventing that one shot is just as easy as grabbing the cylinder on a revlover.
With a revolver you don't need to clear malfunctions, as soon as the gun is free it will fire, and it won't malfunction as long as someone is not actively grabbing the cylinder.
I carry a glock 17, 22, or P365 more than I carry my LCR, but to act like revolvers don't have a distinct advantage over pistols in close quarters fighting either stems from ignorance or blatant dishonesty.
Autoloaders have plenty of advantages too, they generally hold more rounds, are easier to reload, less felt recoil, and have shorter trigger pulls than revolvers. There is a reason that any cop carrying a snubnose revolver is doing so to backup a double stack service pistol and not the other way around

>but to act like revolvers don't have a distinct advantage over pistols
i never said they don't have an advantage. the issue is that the advantages are all in oddball scenarios, scenarios that are just as unlikely as needing to shoot someone far away. I am really only critical of revolver use on /k/ because revolver users are always smug and superior while acting like the rest of the gun world is out to get them. its the perfect gun for a terminal PrepHolener tbh.
Forgot picture, this new webp nonstandard image type is fricking annoying
>Shooting while grappling with someone or in a really confined space
until they get a hand on your gun and stoop the cylinder from turning.
Yeah but there is a 100% chance of moroning the movement of the slide on an autoloader after the first shot, and it getting knocked out of battery and not firing that first shot is more likely than someone grabbing the cylinder.
There is a lot of ways to unintentionally making a pistol malfunction, a revolver in good working order takes some deliberate act for the same effect
unironically the ruger lcr, I liked the trigger on it
but I bet you want to save money cuz the rebate that is goin on, so if its CC go for hammerless. if a God forbid you ever have to actually use it, the DA could argue you premeditated by wienering the hammer.
The one that feels better
The one with the hammer.
Because it has a hammer.
Why not just get a 638 abd have the best of both worlds?
Exposed hammer could get caught on stuff, shooting out to 25 yards with a DA pull is pretty doable if you put in some effort.
Cant get your grip as high with the shrouded hammer, noticeably more muzzle rise.
>Exposed hammer could get caught on stuff,
like what? getting caught on your threadbare wool overcoat because you're a 1930s commoner?

What? Do you not own clothes with pockets? Post breasts

Sure you can, works fine. One note though, I have never found the need to grip it this high in order to shoot quickly or accurately.
what did you do to your finger
can you really fire it with your thumb that close to the cylinder?
It's possible, just don't stick it out past the front edge of the cylinder.

Your mom bit me.
>can't get your grip as high
Bullshit. You have baby hands or something?
My hands are bigger than yours, and it doesn't matter because the reciprocating hammer on a shrouded hammer will hit the web of your hand if you have it as high as you can on a hammerless

inside of about 30 yards
>oh my god the hammer touched my hand!!!!
inb4 642gays shitting about how "You don't need an exposed hammer because it's a carry gun"
Sp101, you can get it in both flavours too.
Carried a 62-14 for a while. It was fine. Easy to shoot.
638
you can buy a new 642 with no trigger lock
this makes it instantly better than almost every other option from S&W (although it already was better because external hammers on any CCW gun are just lint collectors)
>you can buy a new 642 with no trigger lock
i lucked into this before i even knew that was a thing and am eternally grateful
the airweights are pretty light, but not fun to shoot like steel snubbies
Is there any practical reason to CC a revolver if you don't plan on trying to shoot from your pocket?
there is.
oh okay

If the difference is just hammer vs hammerless, then hammerless.
Or the lcr?
