Mainland Chinese are riddled with internal abscesses from the all the hormones and chemicals in their food. There's no regulations against it and so the Chinese are often eating a cocktail of animal growth hormones and pesticides. The rich all get their food privately sourced for a very good reason in that country.

My wife went to acupuncture school and spent 6 weeks working at a hospital in China as part of the program. I can’t remember specifically what city it was off the top of my head, but I remember looking it up once and it’s an area with notoriously bad pollution. This was before I met her, but she said she came back from there with a monster upper respiratory infection that took months to get over, likely exacerbated by the off the charts air pollution. She said the food was absolutely disgusting, full of preservatives and just low quality in general. Everything she tried to eat either made her sick or gave her an allergic reaction. She ended up basically eating nothing but rice and a few steamed vegetables for her entire stay.

I wonder how much MRE being bad for you has to do with the MRE being bad and how much just your gut bacteria not used to the foreign food.

A big part of people dying due to sickness in war in ye olden day had to do with just that: the foreign bacterial life in the food and different composition gave the soldiers indigestion. Normally you'd adpt in time after some nasty shits... but add demanding physical labor and a lack of hygiene to that and even a minor infection on top of it all will fucking kill you.

Had a Spanish MRE. Only thing I remember was a tin of fresh squid in ink. Was pretty good.

Real answer is the US if they still have Zapple sauce. It's caffinated apple sauce. Feeling smoked halfway through a patrol? You ain't got time to make coffee. You can chew on some instant grounds and snack on some bread.. or you could chug down some fuckin ZAPPLESAUCE. Carbs, caffeine, and taste.

I tried searching for that turkey medallion in the stores when I was in vacation in Italy and you couldn't find it or it must have had a different label. Meanwhile I don't know why people rave about the italian cordial shot in the mre when it's basically caramel flavored spirit. In italy you could buy spirits bottles that tasted like gold nectar and also wasted you in a sip for like 8 bucks

          Anonymous

Limoncello ? Yeah, I buy that shit home and it's both more expensive and of lower quality. Meanwhile for 8 bucks in Italy, you got some fine Limoncello. The trick to know it is just to put it in the freezer, if it end up having ice inside, it's shit/meh. Otherwise you know you have good shit and you drink like that, cold as possible. Taste like nectar and deceive you in forgetting there is alcool in it. Between that and the heat you get wasted fast.

You should definitely avoid eating human brains because you can get prion disease that way - think Mad Cow Disease, Kuru, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Basically bad proteins that turn your brain into hole filled sponge, it's incurable and untreatable.

Haven't heard anything about eating human livers though. On the one hand, it's probably packed with all the drugs and poisons it's filtered from the human you just ate. On the other hand, it should also contain alot of micro-nutrients which can stave off whatever deficiency you're getting

I used to eat US MREs quite a bit growing up for backpacking, they seemed pretty decent when I was a kid, this was the early 90s with the dark brown outer bags. Some of the newer ones are ok too, although a lot of it is pure goyslop.

unironically China. They made MRE as delicious and fresh as they could. PLA soldiers actually enjoy eating them. Those are not meant for long storage. The eternal copekeks mistaken that for low quality.

Same thing happened during Shanghai's lock down. They were jeering at China somehow not able to supply the city without realizing that delivering fresh produces and meats require much more logistic expertise than delivering the garbage in American/Europe food bank.
Somehow the country that produces 1.6 TRILLION dollars worth of food: more than the US+India+ the entire EU combined is somehow food insecure. Absolute delusional.

French (and Belgians, who use the same MREs) will forage for food if needed. Roast their own meals etc.

Lots of euro nations have ones with nice off-the-shelf components but they last less than a year and aren’t calorie dense (but in times of peace/training are pretty good) The US has the second most disgusting ones next to China, they should be ashamed of themselves. Russian ones are okay. Japan and Korea have the best “oriental” ones that are rice-focused but again not calorie dense and you’d need to eat at least 7 of them to even break even on calories in a real war scenario . Canada has the best in terms of taste, energy density, moral, and long term shelf life.

Anything that is canned has usually a 2-3 year shelf life here.

I’m ESL but I appreciate the correction. Didn’t know there was a difference.
Somewhat related—I still don’t understand the difference between ‘effect’ and ‘affect’

It's moral. Morale is just a made up term. The supposedly "different" spelling was derived from the French pronounciation of the female form of moral. Some fags didnt understand its the same word but doubled down on it and now try justify it with some lazy spin on the real meaning.

Never trust an Amerimutt "correcting" your English. They frequently deflect their own misunderstandings, ignorance and widespread misuse of European language and blame you for correct spelling and perfectly valid grammar. These ESL fags never learned a single European language in their whole life and you can easily tell them appart from white posters.

Only ever had American ~20 years ago. I recall the tetrazzini was delicious, and the various pound cakes were really good.

Hated the jambalaya and the frankfurters, though.

I think the pound cake was the first thing I ever tried as a kid, you could buy them separately at a local surplus store, and yes they were delicious.

Honestly, the Ukrainian one of all things that Steve reviewed was pretty stunning.

When i watched it months ago I wondered if even a single one ended up with the Ukrainian soldiers.

Back in the day I used to think MREs could easily last decades, I blame 80s apocalypse movies.

They can but you may not like them. Caring about other than survival from a combat ration is basically retarded and a sign of weakness. If it's boring, eat only when hungry which is kind of the point else you'll get fat.

(Most) US MREs have been good enough to snack on (so we did) since after the Desert Shield era fossils were expended. If your pouch is swollen, do not eat.

I've eaten only Finnish, Russian and British. All of those are edible, but I think the British one is the best.
