The western variant of this is having enough money to spam the ones that aren't cheap anyway.

      That's the US variant.

It's funny but the predator is almost as effective as an actual plane, isn't it? Has one ever even been lost?

Plenty have. These things have been in service forever. Both to accidents and enemy actions.

yeah pretty often, thats the point of unmanned stuff. The fucking Iranians EW captured one and scared the shit out of everyone in the late 2000's I think.

but thats the magic of unmanned. it was big news at the time but forgotten bc no one died. it could have been the new U-2 incident

I remember a story about insurgents in Iraq or Afganistan getting a hold of a drone recon screen and being able to use it to watch the feed of drones spying on them. I assume the second that was found out they just changed encryption keys though.

Iranians have captured well over a dozen US and Israeli UAVs, just not clear how many. They captured another US drone a few weeks ago but ended up cutting it loose while towing it from the sea.

When I see this thing I always wonder why they made the tail so offset and fucktarded. Is it somehow more efficient for flying around in circles while it's loitering?

The west copies what Americans do, and they are making something so big so it can carry an already existing range of ammunition for helicopters or aircraft.
    Blablacar uses pretty small rockets

Turkey's already done that with the Bayraktar Akinci, and the KizilElma should be undergoing testing soon, ideally next year.

What's the point of making big drones when their loss rates seem to be pretty high? Just make them big enough to carry one significant munition and have lots of them.

Stand off munitions baby, these can carry multiple cruise missiles. You're basically replacing attack aircraft with much more efficient and effective platforms.

Yeah but since you don't have to use one pilot per plane you could just have a swarm of single munition drones with autopilot back home when munition is expended and the operator switches to the next ready to go drone.

What is the point to make it so big? At first look, it has zero stealth capabilities.

Israel has had this since before the Bayraktar even existed. Its been reverse-engineered from Iran to China and is very popular worldwide.

Because of detente with Russia, Israel didn't sell any to Ukraine though.
