Where do Mexican Cartels get their weapons

I know it's a popular anti-gun talking point that they get them all from he US, but that can't be right. The average US gun shop doesn't have machine guns or rocket launchers for sale.

Like take the CIA of the 50s you could put an agent in belin and no one would notice other than maybe the eye colour because brown eyes and blonde hair is very common in Germany while blue eyes and light hair is the standard most other places, but now? Good look with that

            1. What the fuck are you smoking? Only 27% of the US has blue eyes. Blue eyes are only about 10% of the global population. It's about 30% (higher) in Germany. What do you MEAN "blue eyes is the standard in most other places".

            2. You could put a CIA agent in Berlin, and that was it. Nice job advocating for an all-white infiltration team, now good luck hiding out in rural Angola.

Are you stupid or did you not realize that CIA agents differentiate between regions that work with? If they have to work in south America, their agents/contacts will be south american. Europe will be european and asia will be asian. What you're saying is mainly a meme or you're just looking at some deskjob employee that is different from their espionage works.

The Cartels are cashed up like you wouldn't believe. They have the money to import weapons from wherever they want. They also use a lot of old weapons that were imported into Latin America by the USSR during the Cold War.

Their own military and police as well as those of the even poorer countries to their south. Those are almost all past gen weapons, do you think every Mexican state has the resources to secure warehouses full of old surplus like Uncle Sam?

    1. Corruption. Grease the right palms and a few machine guns and grenade launchers disappear from a Mexican armory.
    2. Overseas: They can afford to import arms from places like China and Russia.
    3. Central and South American surplus.
    4. Occasionally, US government screwups (i.e. Fast and Furious).

The cartels sell illegal drugs for money.

This money is exchanged for guns and ammunition.

The guns are used to protect said flow of drugs for money, and also guns for money.

much like illegal drugs the solution to illegal firearms is legalization and taxation

The ultimate goal of the government is disarmament and abstinence, taxation doesn’t provide either. You really think Tyrone Biggums is going to pay taxes for his eightball of crack? Fuck’s sake I had a whole conversation with a hood associate about what kind of AR he wanted to build and he was incredulous over the idea he’d need to pay $200 for an SBR tax stamp since he wanted a shorty boi for the car.
The only difference legalizing weed for example has done has made stronger strains available for cheaper than ever. Why pay $60 for an eighter of medical grade at the shop when I can hit the clerk up after work and he’s offering medical at $10/g?
We can still dream of the day the machinegun registry reopens to the public though even thats not as ideal as abolishing that system entirely.

Corrupt American politicians like Leland Yee and Obama (operation fast & furious), straw purchases (cartel operatives legally buying them in the US and trucking them back), theft from the Mexican military/police whether through force or corruption, foreign arrangements.

Mostly from the US unfortunately, probably the vast majority. They don't really care what someone leaves the country with.

Mostly the US. Other weapons, often indirectly the US. We sent a fuckton of weapons into central america during the 80's and 90's to fight communist guerillas.

I had a (mexican) army officer offer me a brand spanking new, AR 15 plus some mags and a box of ammo for the equivalent of around 2500 USD.
This isn't army inventory mind, but confiscated weapons that are supposed to be destroyed, but some are sold off again to make a quick buck on the side.
Makes me think the likelihood the army sells weapons back to the cartels after confiscating them is almost certain.
