When my furnace/humidifier is running the waterline makes the loudest sound that echos throughout the house. It drives me crazy. I had tried using the insulation to get it off the gas line and then wrapped duct tape around all that to reduce the vibration but it just isn't enough.
What can I do to quite this down?
Btw it is not water hammer, it sounds like really high pitched running water
>running water
you better go catch it!
can I use a net?
no seriously, this is driving me nuts its so much louder than any faucet or when the sprinklers run and it seems like its just this one line. Do I need to re-run the line? is that something a simpleton like myself can do?
Envirac agent on the way 🙂
You have some shit partially obstructing your water inlet on the humidifier, probably just hard water residue. Take it apart and clean it.
That actually sounds plausible. I will have to try that next weekend when I have free time to jump into a project like that.
Anything I should be aware of so I don't create other problems?
it's almost definitely this. flush your toilet and then turn the knob on the water inlet line connected to it, you should be able to pretty much recreate the noise. if that's what you're hearing then it's definitely cause by a restriction in the line.
Bumping this to get other ideas incase the one I was given doesn't end up working when it try it.
Is it a "water hammer"?
No it's a humidifier
Water hammer is when sudden stops of water flow creat aloud bangs etc within your copper pipes.
OP here, I ended up just replacing the line completely and its quite a bit quieter.. still not as silent as I would like so I may revisit this task and see if I can sleeve some fuel line over it to reduce the noise.
Also since its compression fittings I have the tiniest little drip pretty much right over a floor drain. Im almost out of threads on the fitting and I have really cranked down on it, do these end up getting worse with time or pretty much just stay the way they are until I mess with it again?
