Someday you'll realize that people who spend all of their time partying and socializing end up flat and uninteresting, with nothing of substance to talk about. Not saying that people shouldn't make the effort to go out and socialize and have fun. You can spend time on whatever interest you and also go out sometimes.

All the plate carriers, and to some extent the obsession with camo was what made it a fashion show for me. If you were dropped into hurricane katrina or the LA race riots, the last thing you want to be wearing is full multicam SOF larp. You'd want to blend into the crowd, and only be visibly armed if somebody tries to frick with you. The gear list should include a shoulder holster, soft armor and a thick jacket appropriate for your neighborhood, but invariably included ops cores and full crye.

A good rule of thumb I like to use is
      >would anyone in 2020 have benefited from having this?

and you're spot on about long guns. For example, Kyle Rittenhouse likely would've completely avoided the situation he got into if he had a concealed pistol instead. Although of course in his exact case, he wasn't old enough to CC.

Kyle would've also been killed if he was concealing a pistol instead of open carrying a rifle

watch the videos leading up to it, he was clearly targeted for having a long gun. IIRC Rosenbaum was literally yelling
          >shoot me homie

And the first two attackers didn't even have firearms and they still went after him.

Its because its a hobby/obsession. Reality is that anyone could be prepared for pretty much anything other than the death of the nation by merely taking some first aid courses, getting some range time, buying food in bulk, having a generator or some solar panels and a car in good condition, a couple jerry cans and some paper maps of your state/region.

In addition to this, financial preparation is by far the most important kind of preparation as that's the kind of shit that will happen multiple times over your lifetime. Do you have cash reserves to cover your rent/mortgage for ~6 months? You should. If you dont have decent health insurance do you have a decent line of credit that isnt a credit card and is good for for like ~30K? You getting laid off or really sick or hurt is going to happen. You having a gunfight (nevermind a gunfight that requires the use of more than 15 rounds) is probably not going to happen.

Also, for a lot of these dudes are just gamers larping irl. which is fine, legit absolutely fine, but dont try pass it off as anything else.

Ridiculously out of touch with the realities of the modern world. There's people who do, and it's good that they do, but an exceptional number of people simply can't. Even if they pared down their expenses to nothing but rice and gas, they can't feasibly do what you're suggesting.

You can spend less. I have about $200/month in living expenses. I could see spending quite a bit more than I do, but $1000/month should easily cover everything. If you're living in a city paying $3000 a month to rent a room, maybe you should consider moving.

Anything you own, owns you one day.
I amassed a big pile of belongings before I come to my senses. Now I try to sell/give away a set amount of stuff before aquiring another piece of stuff.
For example I'm drooling over a nice S&W 14-4 atm and the auction expires in 2 days. If I am able to buy it for the reasonable sum of 300 bucks, I 'll then sell my russian rifle/shotgun combo, a cap&ball revolver and another muzzleloader.

I have a similar mentality but not for dollar value. I've limited myself to 1 safe so if I want a new gun I have to sell something off to make room for it. If I'm unwilling or unable to part with anything of equal or greater size then I'm not getting a new gun

For example I do have a kinda worn Mod.10-5, that I might sell off in the future(or not. It has grown on me and gets the most carry time of all of my 4 handguns.)

I wonder what kind of no-life individual has to sacrifice partying and other social stuff to practice being proficient with a weapon. All it takes is 15-20 minutes of practicing draws from concealment and dry fire every day, so you don't have to give up anything significant to keep up on that practice. That's a weird coincidence, I was just talking about this yesterday.

Just keep a couple guns and a month's worth of food, plus either wood or some gas. That preps you for 99% of scenarios. Put it in a basement and you're even prepped for nuclear fallout, provided your house survives the blast. Anything more is just splitting hairs, like making the front wall of your house out of reinforced concrete to resist drive-bys. General preparedness is good while fixation on an unlikely scenario is silly

Because you aren’t going to get meaningful combat experience outside of the military.
EMS or some LEO experience is useful as frick, but LARPers don’t give a frick about actual, useful survival skills. Actual survival shit is gritty, thankless, and doesn’t look cool on Instagram. It’s badass, but not in a lowest-common denominator way like pretending to oper8.
You might fool a dumb broad from the bar

Really, who'd want to be in combat just to gain some 'experience', when even US Military sends it's soldiers to war with just training and no experience. It's a nebulous thing. Self-defense should be available to all without needing to spend years shooting foreigners for 'experience'.

          >but LARPers don’t give a frick about actual
Statistics? Quotes? Anything? Or are you just sour-grapes no-guns? People go camping and trekking as a hobby, they don't need to join the military to learn how to camp safely. First Aid courses and shooting instructions are available commercially and most so-called 'LARPers' spend thousands of dollars on these.

If you don't have several dudes and some comms, then you don't have shit. You have to sleep or take a shit some time.
Other gear would be drones for surveillance, NVGs for at least your best shooter, and a GPS that doesn't rely on cell signal.

You could be using chink SKSs and stripper clips for all it matters. Although you'd probably want your shooter to have a telescopic sight.

If you have to use your IFAK, you have done fricked up in your planning. Go read up on that Serbian(?) guy's experience in the last SHTF civil war in the 90s.
Would be nice to learn how the civvies in Iraq, Yemen, or Syria fared after the bombs fell.

People will say everything's fake and gay, but there's no definitive proof of its veracity either for or against.

If it's fake it's a nice story to get you to think about shit other than trying to play superhero. I'd say trading a bic lighter for a wife is bullshit but carrying a bic and having some spares stashed somewhere would be a good idea along with getting some other consumables like batteries (actual consumables because who the frick is going to use up like 50 bics in a shtf scenario that isn't basically the end of civilization for 20 years).

      yeah, basically this
you don't "need" nvgs, helmet and $5k rifle
      you need friends
preferably with rifles, even fricking palmettos that they know how to use
bam you're more prepared than the hypebeast instagram sof-wannabe with quadnods or whatever

Eh, it's on a spectrum. You gotta ask yourself a couple of questions:
    >Prepare for what?
Home invasion? Natural disaster? Epidemic? Riots? 40 feds kicking down your door? You'll see that these have a varying chance of actually happening.
    >Prepare how?
Firearms may be part of preparation but are not the be-all-end-all. If someone buys NVGs, a plate carrier and a SCAR for the event of a natural disaster but doesn't stock food, garden or know anyone of their neighbors I'm not buying it
    >At what cost?
When your preparations for disaster encroach on your day-to-day you might be doing something wrong. Dressing like a moron to carry a hand cannon ist a good example. You prep to live, you don't live to prep.

This ist not to say guns and ammo are an invalid hobby. It most definetely is. The problem is that people like to make excuses to buy shit. Best example: "Muh bear gun". The sentiment of "whY dO yOu NeEd..." from grabbers serves to further this mentality.

Any recommendations on food storage containers? I see round 5 gallon buckets with twist tops.

I would like it to be air tight, and preferably square for better storage utilization.

I practice preparedness. While everyone was out partying, I was saving my money and investing in the stock market. While they paid to take their cars to mechanics, I bought tools to fix it myself. While they bought themselves cars when they got a promotion, I kept my reliable car with a peeling clear coat. And yes, I have wizard status.

I now pay a mortgage that is cheaper than an apartment.

Those twist top buckets usually have a rubber gasket in the lid, it would be hard to get as good a seal with a square container. Ammo cans or pelican cases could work, but that would be much more expensive and probably not any more space efficient.

I prep specifically because I procreated, own a home and have my entire family living in it. I prep because the previous world order is legitimately coming apart at the seams and it is only reasonable to, you know, have the ways and means of protecting my family. To not prepare for very feasible eventualities is fricking stupid. The only homosexuals that would be against Westerners from having guns, armor, kit and gear while spending time learing valuable skills are people that would intend to do us harm. OP is a chink.

I guess your kids and grandkids will divy it up after you croak.
Made up imaginary problems pale in comparison to MAD, Cold War and the 1960s racial/social climate. This is nothing. If we made it through the Vietnam and USSR era we’re golden.

…that they sell immediately to a pawn shop like most inheritors because its been a century and society still hasn’t collapsed yet.
Guns and tools keep, but most other stuff has an expiration date.

    >preparedness
I'm just LARPing. After some time and money invested, you ultimately will try to make something usefull out of it, so you also learn some military/survival stuffs to make it less useless, as all passions are in the end.

The prepping thing was just a hype train hobby market for men to do larp-camping. The homesteading / bug-out / hideout thing wasn’t real, it was just an entertainment genre on YouTube. Over the years the younger generation of YouTube-consumers turned it into the tiny home / van life thing which is still going. New thing on hype is hot-tenting. Prepping was real in the sense that it had actual market value for selling survival / bugout gear, it wasn’t strictly fake YouTube-only like the van life thing.
