      >harumph, these newfangled "aeroplanes" are merely a passing fad that will never amount to anything
At this point most casualties in this war seem to be either caused by drone attacks directly or drone directed artillery fire.

        what war?

The simplest improvised weapon from these is a contact explosive or an explosive rigged to detonate on impact. The next level of complexity is simple grenade launchers controlled remotely. We have seen both used extensively in the war.

The first is self-destructive and is a part of the munition itself, the second has been seen as more expensive in practice and is treated like a much larger vehicle to be serviced.

Yet even as a single-use munition with some sort of impact mechanism, it would likely be larger than this.

The crudest possible is a basic remotely detonated munition attached to a basic quadcopter with a camera. No special rigging is required, just a remote detonation switch.

what about just having a small recon drone on your vest?, look over a hill or behind a bunch of buildings without much risk to yourself. if its a small one you can fairly easily recharge it in the field from folding solar panels

would unironically be amazing for military use in buildings/entrenched positions.

special forces have been using millitary whoops for years but millitarized ones are kinda bloated (1kg+ for 4 inch prop whoop) but include various sensors (i suspect TOF 3d lidar, although you can get a basic one for like 20$ these days)

ive been thinking of trying to add something like an A010 lidar to betaflight, instead of fpv analog/digital video you get betaflight telemetry with the lidar feed, it looks like this

          but works in pitch black

They are still pretty noisy for close quarters flying.

i dont think that matters its not like the other guys are gonna shoot it down and if they try they expose where they are, waste ammo and so on.

other than scouting ahead i think that if you're in a firefight and you fly an fpv drone behind the enemy the noise and presence of the drone can just freak them out even if it doesnt do much by itself

You do not fly this thing. that's a themepark ride.
Now talking about real things, yes our ISR should be linked to ground command

what would the point of fpv over traditional drone be unless you are suicide bombing? it just means you have to carry a vr set everywhere

you mean like adding a gimbal camera instead of a fixed one?

      >it just means you have to carry a vr set everywhere
No, it doesn't. If you want a compact FPV display you can get pocket-sized FPV screens you can clip to your controller. There have even been controllers with built-in FPV screens. See TBS Ethix Mini and Tango 1 for examples.
      >what would the point
The DJI drones are kept on a short leash; they have geofencing and bullshit like that built in. I'm not up on the current state of third-party apps and DIY hacks to bypass all that bullshit but it's an issue you don't have to worry about with an open-source drone.

the effort to just download a firmware hack on GitHub and install it into a DJI is 1% of the effort required to deal with open source crap

Warfare is so gay now, just infinite small precision munition spam against individual soldiers, will only get gayer.

The Third World War will be fought by fatasses in Lazyboys smashing FPVSD's into autonomous vehicles for 8 hours a day from the safety of mile underground bunker.

dji mini 3 pro with RID disabled. Nothing better on the market for ~$900. 1080p live video, obstacle avoidance, smarts, good battery life. I would like to build one myself but it's just easier to buy a dji and be done unfortunately

The downside to DJI is that if you break something you're shelling out tons of cash or sending it in for warranty whereas with a DIY kit you can just throw replacement parts in on the cheap and be good to go.
Well, that and the chink spyware.

DIY (imma assume fpv because that's what most of diy kits on the markets are for) drones are anything but cheap. Plus it requires a shit ton of other bulky gears that I'm sure you won't want to lug around in the middle of a patrol etc

dji literally sells backdoors for their own drones for police to use.

          model?

rekon 35, ive seen a guy who made a similar one with 1 21700 on top and 1 21700 on the bottom. its low power but if you put folding props on it its super compact

you're talking about RID. Russia used AeroScope sure, but that's literally just using RID. Disable RID and it is useless. Moron.
I say this as someone that hates govt backdoors and shit. But the whole anti DJI crusade because they do what the FAA requires them to do is stupid

the other functions of aeroscope are basic triangulation and listening to the right frequencies iirc. Can't do anything about that in the first place.
But plleeeasssee provide proofs if you know that DJI has additional 'backdoors' retard

triangulation with two antennas that are close by? really? lol
and what's the point of triangulation if you get the coordinates from the fucking drone because you see the telemetry

aeroscope is what they sell publicly to security/police departments, fuck knows what they sell secretly

anyways using backdoored proprietary firmware is a non-starter unless you work for the people making the backdoors

              >50 minutes of hovering around on autopilot
              Boring

If you forgo the 250 gram weight limit and prioritize range over speed, 30 minutes isn't hard to achieve with a long-range 7" "long range" acro quad that's still a blast to fly. With a bit more refinement you can get close to an hour. This guy pulled off 55 minutes with 18650s and a 6" race frame:

he totally annihilated the battery tho, and he did 40km/h which you're kinda comparing to a hovering drone

i think a 1s 18650 is the best choice for a drone you carry on you, very standardized and you can use it to charge other stuff, you can fly with the same batteries you use on ytour radio/goggles and on a sunny day with a folding solar panel you can probably fly all day except battery changes

If UA had proper ability to attack into a weakeneden position they'd need to
    A) punch a hole
    B) expand it
    C) while expanding enemy logistical line

you can get a fairly small and lightweight fpv kit if you build it that way. you have to make some sacrifices like only 1 small camera on a lightweight drone that wont be very responsive in wind and such

pic runs on 2 standards 18650s which you're gonna run your radio and screen/goggles on too and you can easily charge that stuff and if needed use the 18650s to charge other electronics you use.

Ukrainians just use these drones to drop gernades on tank or use them as kamikazes
