What's your bugout/survival weapon if you live in a place with a maximum visibility of 70 yards?

Do you use a PCC, or just get really good with a handgun so you can climb over logs and rocks easier? I think a shotgun is out if the question just because of ammo weight but that's just me.

a fucking AR-15, what are you retarded?

AR is way too destructive on 90% of game animal. You can't even hit small game at close range because of the high sight hight and flat tractory, you'll always be too high or too low unless you're literally whipping out a range finder and ballistic calculator all the time. A PCC can be basically flat shooting between 7 and 70 yards and is suitable for pretty much all Eastern game animals. It's also a lot quieter and less likely to draw distant attention. AR is pretty much the worst possible choice here.

        What a retarded take.
        >M-muh small game
Hit the head. It's very simple to do.
        >trajectory
Unlike 9mm, 5.56 isn't dropping at 70 yards. You do actually have to shoot with your gun to know holds.
        >b-but what if there's a chipmunk 1 foot away and I'm retarded cityfag who bugged out with no gear but muh guns
        Ruger MkIV as backup gun.
        >ballistic calculator all the time
For 70 yards? You're not a clown you're the whole fucking circus.

I wouldn't even bother hunting small game with a gun if you're at all worried about noise. Snares and other traps are very easy to set up and work well.

As for my gear, I will be using my AR-15 and killing and eating you.

It's more a realization that there are over 300 million Americans. There are 30 million deer. If even 1/10 Americans bug out, there is no more game in North America. That's day one. There is however a whole lot of long pig for the harvest.

My cannibalism fetish is simply a coincidence.

        >lower circle of eotech is =/- 1" for 5-10yds
        >dot is +/- an inch from 22-100yds
wdym. The only tricky part is 10-20ish yards, and thats easily fixed with practice or reticle choice

          Anonymous

I thought about this one real hard a day or 2 ago, mostly because I was trying to figure out where the lower dot on the Eotech reticle would hit. Here's what I came up with, pic rel.

If you start by looking at your shoes and raise you gaze up by some angle "a", it will sweep out a small section of ground. That point on the ground is where your gaze is "zeroed" at. Then raise your gaze up by the same angle "a" again and it sweeps out a larger area of the ground. The zero point of your gaze isn't doubled, it's more than doubled and each time it's going to sweep out a larger and larger portion until you reach the horizon which we can call infinity or the limit. This is exponential growth.
Applying this to the Eotech reticle, the bottom notch is 7 yards away and using the above demonstration you've already swept over all the small sections of ground. Every bit of angle up from then on is going to be increasingly bring your point of impact up increasingly to the zero distance of your center dot.
What does this mean? If you take your Eotech reticle at 7 yards and aim with the bottom hash at say a light switch on the wall. You will see your center dot is only 4" higher up on the wall if that. If you were to aim in between, even at 7 yards, you'd only be off by 2". So if it's say 10 to 20 yards away, just use halfway between the 7 yard zero and your 100 yard zero and you'll be off by less than an inch.
If you zero your rifle at 50 yards it's going to be pretty much on at 100 yards too, or at least not that far off.

I hope this is bait. Have you ever even spent time shooting an AR at targets at varying distances? It’s not hard. If PVT Latisha can do it, then anyone can.

Okay, let's deconstruct this for you
        >AR is way too destructive on 90% of game animal.
        Fake
        >You can't even hit small game at close range because of the high sight hight and flat tractory, you'll always be too high or too low unless you're literally whipping out a range finder and ballistic calculator all the time.
False, but you do have to know how to adjust. It's one of the reasons I like Eotech reticle, has a 7 yard zero marker
        >A PCC can be basically flat shooting between 7 and 70 yards and is suitable for pretty much all Eastern game animals.
PCC's generally have the same height over bore you were just bitching about and some like the Kriss Vectr are far worse.
        >It's also a lot quieter and less likely to draw distant attention.
Only if you get a long enough barrel. Sure rifles are louder but a 9mm pistol is plenty loud in terms of someone far off hearing a gun shot. If you get a 16" and the right ammo, 9mm can be very quiet even without a suppressor. I'll let you have that one.
        >AR is pretty much the worst possible choice here.

I think you want one of those folding Kel-tec's loaded with the heaviest possible rounds.
A ruger 10/22 takedown might also suit you. You may even want to consider a crossbow.

This. Dress up as an animu girl and if you get your tucking game good enough you can get a boyfriend who will hunt for you. You won't have to do a thing. Hopefully he had the foresight to buy 10,000 rounds of .22lr so he won't run out.

Not to mention it cuts your ammo weight in half by allowing you to rely on a single cartridge. Weight minimization is extremely important in the mountains. If your rifle is a different cartridge from your pistol, there needs to be a profound justification for that. If you can't see more than 70 yards then I can't think of any justification.

        >Not to mention it cuts your ammo weight in half
No it doesn't. The heavy part of the bullet is the lead. M193 weighs almost the exact same as standard 124 gr ball ammo. Unless you're just carrying half as much ammo, this isn't true.
        >Weight minimization is extremely important in the mountains.
        kek
        >If your rifle is a different cartridge from your pistol, there needs to be a profound justification for that.
Why would you even think that. This isn't a fucking videogame. If you're carrying 300 rounds of 5.56 and 30 rounds of 9mm, how is that any different from carrying 330 rounds of 9mm? It weighs about the same, you can fire the same number of shots, the only difference is 5.56 is way more terminally effective than 9mm. If you want your rifle to be the same cartridge as your pistol, you really need a justification for that. Why carry both? The weight is important, right? They do the same shit. 9mm doesn't care if it's coming out a 16" barrel or a 4" barrel, it's going to cause the same trauma. You're not expanding your capability at all by doing this.

If you were to do this retarded SHTF bugout fantasy, a rifle and a .22lr pistol makes way more sense. You can carry a thousand rounds of .22lr if you want and pick off any small game you find without compromising your ability to fight back against a person or dangerous animal.

Are you retarded? its 5.56, 7.62x39, or .300 blk depending on needs. .308 is a great choice if youre staying static or know you wont need to clear structures, hard to argue with the post barrier performance and effect on target with quality loads even if distances are limited. Handguns are just a dumbfuck choice in every way and should always be your secondary. PCCs are a dumb fucking choice for a bugout weapon outside of ACTUAL niche needs which are very rare, like youre going to overland on foot for extended times and want something thats okish for defensive needs, can be used for small game, and also needs to be concealable. Very little changes when it comes to ideal defensive firearms for realistic situations outside of optics, barrel length, and ammo type. Caliber is pretty much decided by barrier concerns, whats popular locally, whether CQB is a thing, and whether you need to move on foot(while expecting prolonged trouble) or not, which tells you if you want 5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, or MAAAAYBE .300 blk.

I've been looking into the idea of .44 magnum shotshells for a general purpose survival gun, need to buy a few and see how well they pattern for squirrels.
Bugout it's kind of a hard call anything good for shooting squirrels won't be good for whatever reason you're bugging out for. I've been eyeing a .22/12ga combination gun but best option is probably an ar-15 just pack some varmit ammo and high performance hunting ammo for squirrels and big game respectively. Realistically though why not just pop them in the head with your pistol?
