all optics in this world have trade-offs, and LPVOs are not without them. All of the cheap ones are terrible and the ones that aren't are costly - in many cases far more costly than an ACOG and quite a bit more than an Elcan. I think either an ACOG that fits your exact needs + a 1x red dot, will be far better in most situations. If you need to go long, go long. LPVOs having a 1x is an entirely redundant feature that only serves to increase the zoom ratio and hurts the optic overall.

I don't think so. Elcans are LPVOs, just an old heavy model.

You will never be in a situation where having an elcan would have made a difference over something like a strike eagle.

    >what's the verdict on elcans?
They work, but they are huge, heavy and expensive.
    >acog
They work, but they are expensive
    >LPVO
    They work but are expensive
Pick what you want. Vortex and their strike eagle LPVO are battle proven. Acog are bomb proof but not versatile and pricey. Elcans are huge, heavy, versatile and pricey. If you want to put them on an AR, get an LPVO. If you want to put them on a AR10, then an Elcan. If you have a Scar, then you gotta have an Acog on it.

this is that /arg/ meme gone wild isn't it? The israelite Eagle is one of the cheapest vortex lines, if you're going to shill their optics at least recommend their Razor LPVOs

I put a Strike Eagle on my FAL and shot over a 1000 rounds. That's big boolet 30CAL of frick you, cannon power. They work, they are durable and Vortex has a customer support service that rivals the big names like Trijicon and Aimpoint. If you break your stuff, they'll fix it or give you a new one. If you don't like Vortex, you can get an Eotech LPVO or Trijicon LPVOs.

Not to mention, Vortex has won over 4 government contracts, one of which is the NGSW optic of the future.

The part of Vortex that makes the NGSW-FC is only "Vortex" in the sense that they're part of the same company. It's a completely different line, made in America, with stringent quality control and must be certified MIL-STD-810. The strike eagle line is $300 chinese toilet paper tube meme.

The other anon is right. The Strike Eagle isn't even the best lpvo in its class. Just because it says Vortex on the side doesn't mean it's battle proven. I have a vortex one power prism optic and honestly it's kind of shit.

I am a elcan and ACOG guy but the strike eagles are very battle proven. Do they suck compared to nice optics with good glass? Yes of course, but so do all soviet made scopes and optics but those are also very battle proven. Here is pic of a guy who has been fighting in ukraine since 2014, strike eagle on ak74 is his go to setup.

ukraine is the most broke country in eastern europe my man. $10,000 annual salary in 2021. Of course they're buying cheap LPVOs and sightmarks, the money to get anything good isnt there. And just because it's mounted on a rifle doesn't mean it hit anything.

So what stage of cope are you in now? Moving the goalpost? The optic is very battle proven. That dude is Finnish btw so your point is even more useless. Are you addicted to consuming the most expensive options to sit in your safe and take out to the range?

like I said in my first post, I own a TA31F and elcan 1-4, so you are obviously chimping out and throwing shit wildly now because you are offended.

Elcans aren't nearly as heavy as their reputation. Their weight includes the mount, whereas the weight of a lpvo or acog does not, unless you're mounting your acog directly in your carry handle like a chad.

Listen to absolutely no one in this gay thread but me. The elcan is trash. LPVO are trash. ACOG are trash. I have tried all of these and nothing beats magnifier + dot. Especially when running nod’s. Don’t waste your money on an elcan. Get an eotech/aimpoint/holosun and put a g33 or g43 behind it. Preferably you get the unity tactical mounts and riser. Nothing beats this and it costs about 1.500 in total. You will have a system far superior to any acog, elcan or LPVO.

With so much conflicting info and personal opnions, you would really have to try the optic combos yourself and see what you like. It seems though, that for the money and weight, and ACOG + mini red dot combo gets you what you need for short + midrange.
Also why so many elcan threads recently? I guess they havent been explored as much as the other options

Lelcans are great on bullpoops, but you should just buy whatever looks coolest like everybody else. If your gun doesn’t look cool then there’s no point in even owning it.
