is the most correct. To observers who aren't the intended audience, it looks like what

You should always train how you fight but the dumb chinks have never fought so they have no idea what they're doing.

said, if taken in isolation. Now I actually am prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the PLA that they are training effectively (at least to some degree), but it's just not publicized. The PLA has supposedly been trying to modernize its training practices for a long time, so maybe there's been a non-zero positive outcome.

Anyway, the only improvement in shooting proficiency that results from dumb shit like this is incidental, and contrary to an overall deleterious effect. If you want to get "stronger" in ways that directly impact your ability to operate firearms, the solution is to practice operating firearms. Which is not done with barbell iron obstructing the picture from iron sights.

        Anonymous

My understanding from talking with Chinese and from what little we can get from the inside on what happens with the PLA is that 90% of the soldiers in the service do the typical assembly/disassembly drills, march a whole bunch and then learn some tech school crap before getting drummed out. They likely shoot under 30 rounds in their entire training and may never touch live ammunition for the rest of their time in the military, that is the vast majority of their soldiers too Their martial capabilities are probably far worse than anyone is aware of. In any sort of shooting war they are going to be super dependent on human wave tactics and lean on technology to bridge gaps. A Sino-Indian war is probably the most likely war they are going to engage with soon so they are already miles above the Indians.

Because it's suboptimal and a waste of time compared to just getting stronger. It's the same reason it's moronic to practice combos while holding dumbbells. It's less effective than conventional strength training and if anything it would reinforce sluggish/cumbersome motor patterns.

      >Basically, a military that doesn't know how to be a military doing its thing
PAP are more like US Airforce SF. They guard government buildings mostly, crowd control is a secondary function and reserved for larger-scale protests that have become a political problem, like Tibetans, HK students, Uighar.
Regular police has swat who also do riot control but would probably back off when it's a more of a political movement and let PAP go in. Civilian police keeping the public's respect is sort of important (even though regular Chinese do not respect the police at all).

The tertiary function of the PAP and in reality, the primary reason they exist at all, is to be a police branch with military equipment and training so that they can crush police who side with locals (because civilian police *are* locals) and oppose a PLA brigade staging a coup or mutiny.

There's a story about a coup/rebellion/mutiny attempt around a decade ago that was stopped by putting PAP between a strike force of secret police who were trying to break their boss out of prison after he was arrested on corruption charges. Sources for the story are very sketchy so nobody is really sure whether it actually happened but it's considered credible enough to be on wikipedia anyway, having been reported and talked about by western agencies as something that maybe happened.

Not at all, it's a highly structured and organised dictatorship.
Most long-lived dictatorships exist in a form of half-controlled chaos with deliberate instability baked into the system to prevent individual factions from threatening the dictator and preventing the boyers from gaining too much power even when they're being used to direct security forces etc.

Just look at the Patrushev/Shoigu/Prigozhin nexus in Russia. It's a careful and inherently unstable balancing act.

Information on internal shenanigans in the CCP is VERY hard to come by. They don't have defectors at that level and can completely squash any reporting, public or private, that talks about anything they don't want told.
I said it was sketchy and it is, it's just the most coherent story anyone has heard and has a handful of coincidences that suggest maybe something really did happen then.
FWIW: it was supposed to have happened in June 2012 and a lot of military activity in Beijing was seen (and recorded) happening but the government refused to discuss what it all was.

Yeah about 10-12 years back the crackdowns were abnormally harsh, but I don't recall any of the domestic media (albeit, it's fricking Chinese media) signalling much between the lines. Mostly just the Politburo changes, the Xi presidency shit, and a number of executions.
        >source: me, former expat
The Chinese armed forces are moronic at large but respectable in miniature. We see the moronic stuff quite often, because the Chinese public has no clue how modern war is fought. It's all speculation, except for those who actually read Western history and practices. People unironically believe that OP's shit is a reason why China is undefeatable; some are much more realistic. There is no military culture like in America, news is extremely biased and limited, and the domestic experience with war is nearly zero.

Why? Just practice buttstrokes. Boxers don't add weight to their gloves, why would you do that with a gun?

Why don't bodybuilders just lift their arms up and down? It's the same thing.

          Anonymous

Bodybuilders aren't fighters. They look impressive but all that muscle mass lacks stamina and costs more energy to move. MMA fighters do weight training but practic techniques without weights. Practicing with weights throws off their muscle memory, making their swings awkwards and unbalanced.

Extreme point of impact testing, beyond the training involved in having to hold a gun like that.
Pressure put in a barrel can throw off your zero substantially.
PoI shifts can also be very substantial off of just moderate pressure.
Going all in like this is a good way to give a full shit test to see how good and stable your barrel attachment mechanism is.

        >I like how the chinese prepare for war by essentially sitting around and watching paint dry, but with a rifle
I have no idea whether it's practical because neverserved etc but I can see a certain logic to it. Assuming the puppies are deliberate.

How many films have you seen where the spec ops are laying in jungle to ambush the enemy patrol which is just coming around the corner and someone has a snake slithering across their face or something and they either have to not flinch to avoid being heard and not get distracted until it's time to fire.
In the movies, the camera pans away and then cuts back and they're spitting out the snake's head or something but the principle is the same, don't be distracted, total focus etc.
These are just the kind of discipline and focus stuff all militaries do I think, with a side of propaganda because that's how China works.
It's vaguely reminiscent of the one about a Chinese soldier in Korea burning to death without making a sound that would give the patrol's position away.

          >I have no idea whether it's practical because neverserved etc but I can see a certain logic to it. Assuming the puppies are deliberate.
sitting around staring at something isn't training. The US does this by having recruits exhausted and sleep deprived, then setting up watch and smoking the frick out of someone who's not paying attention
          >It's vaguely reminiscent of the one about a Chinese soldier in Korea burning to death without making a sound that would give the patrol's position away.
          >don't make a sound, it'll give away our position
          >certainly the fire and smell of cooking flesh will go unnoticed
the US was outnumbered 4:1 with no opportunity to entrench while exhausted from another battle at Chosin and still fricked the chinese up hard; china's performance in Korea isn't really something to be admired

it's like that dumbass peek-a-boo "training" that some anon posted in a thread a while back
the chinese have stolen so much US R&D data yet somehow are completely unable to train their soldiers in any meaningful way and continue to do the most embarrassing high speed low drag larperator shit that you see in those gay american CQB classes

If they trained them too well, they could be a threat to the regime.
There are old guard PLA who think the army committed a betrayal in 1989 by protecting the party instead of the people.

It's entirely possible considering that even pre-industrial china's population was ~400 mil.
What I doubt however, is that they know what the frick is really going on in poor rural areas where majority of these chinks actually live. It's like worst fricking africa out there and no way chink officials keep realistic tabs on it. They would be too lazy to actually count half of the time and greedy enough to look away the other half.
Or, sure, it could be like in russia, where local governors are incentivised to drastically overcount population using "dead souls" to get higher subsidies from central government.

They have a home register system that is tied to any form of services anywhere in China for public or private sector. It's called the hukou system. They're more likely to have more fraudulent unregistered birthday because of the one child policy that expired for some families. The reason being they don't register a female birth, so they can have another try for a bit to register the boy. The girl won't be allowed to attend school or make use of any government services like go to hospital or get an ID. She's useless anyway. They're called hein hukous. Or black hukous.

      >China's moronic one child policy
It's actually a three child policy now but they can't get people to have more than one because they got a taste of the quality of life you can afford with only one.

Even back in the day, there were a *lot* of ways to get a second child. Easiest was if both parents were single child families. A first-born daughter got you another one too. Rural families usually got a second. Ethnic minorities got a second as well.

Really, it was nearly an optional policy.

It helps in controlling recoil because it changes the center of gravity. It doesn't actually reduce recoil (if anything it would increase it).
Center of gravity too far forward and it takes more energy than optimal to align the sights, center of gravity too far backwards and the lever arm between the axis of rotation (your wrist) and the end of the barrel is lengthened.

Take a class. Take one (1) class. I can tell immediately exactly what it's for. Holding your rifle all day leaves you fatigued. Doing something like this will condition the soldier against fatigue. It's the only reason I do front delt raises even though normally that wouldn't be a motion I'd naturally do.
