Magnified optics were, and always will be, a meme.
An argument can be made for a 1x prism scope, but that's about it. Otherwise, iron sights are just better.

there isn't one
my opinion? prism sights are better for lightweight stuff and actual scopes are better for actual range, the lpvo is an ok option for that middle ground but if you're going out to a proper range it won't work
So, I wouldn't knock you for using one, I just would rather use something else personally

What's the consensus on LVPO's?
Failures.
3x prism with either offset irons or see through bases for the irons.
I think they're pointless in the face of a lighter ACOG+RMR combo or a red dot+ magnifier that is far superior for passive NV use and delivers better short range performance. I see thier utility, especially on rifles set up for longer ranges but otherwise you're sacrificing a lot of weight for a bunch of magnification levels that seem pointless since you're either going to use 1x or max power
>What's the consensus on LVPO's?
The closest it gets is >"situationally very useful, but with real tradeoffs as well, so make sure the benefits are worth it and consider other options"
They're not simply a pure win. They're heavy, nice ones cost a lot, and the eyebox even at 1x is still tight particularly compared to an RDS/Holo or even 1x prism. So if shooting is going to be <200-300yd, an LPVO is a bad fit vs a prism+rds or holo+flipmag or whatever. If magnification is even needed at all. But if someone is using a heavier gun and primarily focused on 500+yd, why not just a proper MPVO or HPVO and then an RDS or BUIS if desired for close?
LPVO is in between all this. I'm happy with mine on my oddball rifle, but it's very far from an unqualified win. I think it'll take some new technology to really get a successor, and even there may still end up being weight issues.
They make a pretty good alternative to RDS + Magnifier for people with astigmatism where even small red dot sights don't look crisp limiting their usefulness anywhere beyond 100m or so.
They make a pretty good alternative to ACOGs for people who either can't afford a real ACOG, don't like the tiny ACOG eyebox or whose vision isn't compatible with the ACOG's one-size-fits-most diopter.
Seriously serious question, serious answers only please:
Anyone run an LPVO on a Tavor X95? Are these guns even suited for a sight like that or should I just pair with a 1x power sight like an M21/Eotech/etc.?
I'm Canadian so please don't tell me to just get a different gun, would if I could.
I've heard fags claim it's 3-4, but then I've watched people shoot 1-2 which is totally acceptable in my book for what the gun is after all. It's main purpose, for me, is use inside of 100 yards anyways. I have a very accurate .308 if I need to do stain removal at a distance.
Are there any major drawbacks of putting an LPVO on vs. a holo/red dot? Like target acquistion time, size of the sight picture, etc.?
I want something I can put on target quickly and won't result in tunnel vision, but magnification is a nice bonus. Red dots + magnifiers usually end up costing more than a decent LPVO from what I can see.
>I've heard fags claim it's 3-4
I'm staring at a 5" bull I have up on my wall for dry fire, and the 3" diameter circle is smaller across than my closed fist. A gun that can put every round inside that at 100y is accurate enough for most people besides precision guys. Just a guess, but if shit goes bad enough that you're shooting at people across a football field or more, I don't think the gun's accuracy is going to be the thing holding you back.
>5" bull
Are you sure that'll satisfy? >100y
The problem is when you stretch the distance. >200y = 6" >300y = 9" - You're now unable to reliably hit a head sized target from a stable position. >400y = 12" >500y = 15" - You're now unable to reliably hit an IPSC target from a stable position.
With a 1MOA gun, you're looking at roughly 5" of dispersion at 500y. So long as you know how to use your reticle and the range is known, hitting IPSC targets from prone is really easy.
> Will that satisfy?
Yes. > 300y = 9": Unable to reliably hit a head sized target
Sure. You just put a rifle round through my torso from 300y away. How good's my breath control doing then? I damn sure not doing some IMT bullshit across 300y to assault your position.
> 1 moa gun
Well, we're not talking rack grade anymore at that point. And frankly, given incoming fire, the gun might be a precision instrument, but I likely won't.

What scope do you have with that mag range? I only have a cheap Vortex Crossfire. Does the job just fine.
I have a 3-9x40 in my DURR rifle tho. Also vortex, also cheap. Does the job, has shred more blood in the ground than any of the $2k scopes the larpers have.
It depends on what you're doing.
A rifle that's only for home defence, then no need.
Thinking you might have engagements outdoors? Well maybe, even in urban environments you can easily get 150+ yard sightlines, and assuming enemies aren't NPCs they won't be just standing out in the open, hitting a human torso target at 100 yards is nothing with open sights, even identifying a threat pie-ing a car at 100, and then hitting the 2x3" target with open sights is more challenging.
And then there's hunting, where within 200 uds it would be pretty good, and usually lighter than higher power optics.
>consensus
There isn't one. There will never be one. This board's very existence sows contention.
FPBP I guess,
immediately provided proof for that fact.

Terminal case of contrarianism
Many such cases
Dude probably doesn't even know that scopes come with 1x ironsights for CQB. Yes, you can engage targets at close range with a long range rifle.
literally backwards.
all 1x is a meme and every red dot should be iron sights
(other than handguns.)
Astigmatism bros unite, fuck those commie red dots
Have you tried not having gay eyes?

for me they suck dick
heavy, shit eye relief, i don't feel the need to have 1-6 magnification
red dot with magnifier is pure kino tho
Depends on weapon use case and the user.

You either get a shit one for lulzies or go all out and get a nightforce kahles, s&b, etc. No mid range ones except for Trijicon
LPVO's are awesome I love my Burris 1-6
The fact they're getting so cheap with such good tech is a good thing for the buyers

depends on where you live, there are plenty of places that don't have more than 200yd of vision uninterrupted
>JEEWBA
Obligate retards
I like them but I'm also not a LARPing keyboard operator. I just like to shoot.
I have a RIFLE not an SMG. A magnified optic for ME it's a force multiplier.
Also miss me with that 1x shit, for me it's 2-7x32
2.5-8 bro 2.5-8 freal bruh

They certainly are an optic varying in low power
they are the most aesthetic, and thats a FACT.

They're great if you understand the trade-offs and it fits what you want to use it for.
FFP with big objective lense + red dot
LPVOs are superior with SFP
Heavy and not worth it. You either use it full power or on it's lowest setting, no in between.
What about a 3x prism
