What's the big deal with the starlink boxes sent to ukraine? People are saying that russia is saying they're being used militarily. Do they do more than just internet access? Would it matter if russia took a couple boxes?
What's the big deal with the starlink boxes sent to ukraine? People are saying that russia is saying they're being used militarily. Do they do more than just internet access? Would it matter if russia took a couple boxes?
>big deal
Keeps the internet online despite Russian attempts to knock it out country-wide. Russia has no ability to prevent this.
>being used militarily
They are but what are they gonna do, cry?
>do more
No.
>Matter
Not in the slightest. I guess it'd give them internet access lol.
Funny thing is that internet and cell service are still up over most of the country anyways. When Kharkiv had the power knocked out recently a local said they still had cell service (since those almost always have their own backup power supplies/generators.)
Cell towers usually don't have generators, just a huge stack of old lead-acid batteries for backup that can last a few days tops.
>give them internet access
By nature all box locatioms are tracked 24/7 (otherwise there'd be no service, it's satellite internet)
If Russia took a box they'd get access to a pretty standard (if powerful) commercial-grade wireless router, Elon would stop the satellite download and report the box as work expenditure on his tax returns, and that's really it
The biggest thing Russia could do would be to compromise or hack the service, good luck getting to space to manually re-flash 46 satellites that have been infected with a shitty Russian boot sector virus, or trying to re-stabilize them in orbit if a phishing scheme let them get access and blow the satellites' repositioning and deorbiting fuel in retrograde all at once
outside of such a software/networking exploit, Starlink is very resilient
For those interested in spaceflight, SpaceX is literally the best thing to happen to America since the 60’s.
shut the frick up schizo
> I don't like Elon Musk because he's mean on Twitter.
ME AM SMART! ELON IS LE BAD! I SAW A THUNDERFOOT VIDEO!
>Literally uses archaic technology
>Think humanity has any future beyond this rock if we don't actually develop new physics-based propulsion systems
Lmao, with rockets, we are destined to go extinct on this rock without having reach set foot beyond the moon.
>physics-based propulsion systems
How is a rocket not "physics based"?
NTR is a psued meme moron
Who said anything about nuclear rockets, homosexual?
Propulsion isn't a problem for interplaneetary travel. We could have gone to Mars and beyond in the 60s as far as propulsion technology is concerned. Chemical rockets are fine.
>Chemical rockets are fine.
>Fastest chemical rocket achieved 0.05% of the speed of light
Lel
Lemao even
You will all die on this rock with the next natural calamity. You never even came close to being a multi-planetary species.
why are you using those gay metric AUs
Because metric was designed by God and universal throughout the galaxy.
>using a non chemical system to get out of the gravity well when methane is cheaper and works perfectly well
lol pseud
PROTIP: you don't need absurdly high delta v until you get into orbit and start thinking about deep space applications.
>Barely evolved, hair-less chimpanzee brain can't come up with anything better than mass ejection for propulsion...
Oogga booga, throw banan in one direction, me go forward!
This is why you fricking primates will share the same fate as dinosaurs, and the other primitive fauna that evolved and then disappeared from this planet. Lemao
meds
Oh no, it's become agitated.
okay oh Wise One, tell us how humans can leave this rock without chemical propulsion
Frick off, we're full.
Only way to reach anyplace meaningful is using constant acceleration rockets using nuclear propulsion with
>Constant
>no powerful thrusts
Doomed to endless loneliness, anon.

Antimatter propulsion seems to be the most efficient way to store enough propellant to actually get anywhere.
Not the same poster as the person you’re responding to, but I too noticed your plebeian monke redditor brain and replied right above yours.
You would need to make advances in physics and mathematics, but your monke brains have arrived at a hard bio-chemical limits of abstraction and comprehension. The same way a Golden Retriever will never be able to understand calculus, no matter how many thousands of hours you may try to teach it, homos will never unlock certain secrets of nature.
Your only hope is AI, but that's hundreds of years away, which you do not have. Clock is ticking, the next geological disaster is around the corner.
Take it easy on us graybro. We're working on it
I'm so sorry for you.
Any chemical rocket can get arbitrarily close to C if you leave it running long enough. The issue is fuel. So for interstellar flights assuming you cant go FTL we need a system for scooping up interstellar meadium and an engine that be fueled by the elements scooped up
>Any chemical rocket can get arbitrarily close to C if you leave it running long enough.
Ah yes monke, you would just need all of the mass in the visible universe to create enough propellant to get you close to C with your archaic fireworks.
There is plenty of useable material in interstellar space to fuel a rocket
Brilliant, monke, absolutely cunning. You will just need to construct a magnetic field the size of our planet to sweep 1 g of hydrogen into your monke fusion reactor. And then die from the inevitable radiation.
Larping should be a bannable offense you cringe inducing moron
Larping as what?
+1
You could just report his shit as offtopic
>not being strapped to two feet of lead shielding, casually tossing small nuclear grenades through a small trapdoor behind you; harnessing the power of the stars themselves to effortlessly cruise the galaxy.. dabbing on earthly plebeians and their archaic internal combustion engines with your phallic inspired external combustion ass-blast chad-thruster… Spewing enough heat, matter, and manliness in your wake; there’s a very good chance your steed spawns a small planet of its own, legally making you a god and granting you irrevocable mineral rights…
NGMI
Agreed, we should be using tech like pic related
The way things are going, I doubt we will even get that far.
>neet posting from moms basement leaves scathing criticism of self made billionaire rocket scientist inventor Elon Musk. How will Musk respond?
>self made
not him, but that's debatable
yup
>just internet access
I'm pretty sure off the shelf encryption and a commercial internet connection can do 99% of what a military communications system does.
This. Simply having the Internet connection is the military usage.
what the frick kind of name is that
the irish were a mistake
oh-SHAWN-uh-see.
It's normal.
>irish were a mistake
learned a few days ago my maternal great-grandfather was Irish. Felt sick.
A running joke in my family is our shame for being potatoBlack person on our Mum's side.
Millions of English are of Irish descent though. Just a bit of banter.
You are right, there are so many esses in it. It just has to be subversive. It is like the word "subversive" itself. It is like "seditious" and "insidious" too, and like "socialist," "suspicious," "fascist" and "Communist." It is an odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just does not inspire confidence.
>complains about oshaughnessy
bro this is babby mode when it comes to irish names
The most generic fishing hook I use

Starlink is a massive asset for the Ukrainian. Even if Russia gets some starlink dishies, they can only use them if they have the right password. SpaceX can just turn off service to a dish if Ukraine says they lost that particular one.
I mean, they can apparently hack an election system from the other side of the globe; a modem shouldn’t be too far-fetched. Hohols aren’t rocket surgeons.
Reminder that Musk is helping Ukraine literally to take revenge on Russia because an oligarch once spat on him.
I try my hardest to hate Elon Musk, but SpaceX is legit and the fact that the Ukrainians are using Starlink to pilot drones and guide artillery strikes is fricking amazing.
based
should have sold him those rocket engines Ivan
>roscosmos laughed him out
>now spacex has practically driven them out of business
Really should have sold the rich capitalist boy the rocket he wanted.
Legitimately the only completely undisputed good thing Musk has done this year. No matter where you sit (unless you're Russian), Musk sending an entire airplane full of Starlink dishes to the Ukrainians free of charge was incredibly based and actually directly helped their war effort immensely. It meant that they would always have internet access no matter what the Russians tried.
It was government funded, but all the rest is still based
Is this you?
No wonder those morons were poor. NASA's budget was always tiny compared to, oh I don't know, any other federal budget maybe
>Major Zaretsky chose perfectly. Once his team destroyed the first and last vehicles, there was nowhere for the Russians in the vehicles in the middle to go. There was a clear field of fire on both sides of the Russian convoy with well-placed Ukrainian machine guns.
>With military communications still disabled, the Commander used WhatsApp to call in artillery strikes on the convoy. During the same battle, the Ukrainians also found a local youth in Irpin who was a computer hacker.
>He hacked into Russian computers to see the Russian drone footage, so the Ukrainian Commander could see everything the Russian enemy was seeing and anticipate their next moves.
>Major Zaretsky credits Elon Musk’s satellites as being the reason he could use the internet to use Google Maps, YouTube, WhatsApp and allow the hacker to access the Russian computers.
https://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/untold-story-battle-kyiv
And then everybody clapped, except the Russians carrying laptops into combat as is so often the case.
Intercepting drones video feeds has been a thing for a while. Also there's a lot of cybersecurity and drone companies in the capital, so the guy was probably just someone who knew how to use the software.
https://southfloridareporter.com/u-s-supplied-drones-hacked-russians-ukraine-fighting-video/?print=pdf
It was mostly a cheap and meaningless marketing stunt for Elon israelitesk.
But I guess Ukraine is getting some actual use out of it, which is nice.
Musk actually did a good thing and basically gave the ukies SatComs via Starlink Internet connection. Basically any device capable of encrypted connections is now a SatCom device for Ukraine.
Russia is seething about it because they either don't have SatComs or like GlonASS their SatComs are fricking abysmal.
I bet russian satcoms use a 'constellation' of a single sat on molniya orbit lmao
