preferably one that's not made in China but honestly streamlight and holosun are fine. what really matters is how it's mounted.

by not using a cheap mount

Cdm gear had one that could work with the 590s bayonet don't know about the new one. Unironically the strike industries one even though it says it's not good on a 18 inch mossberg it's just because they're gay styling has to fatten it up but a quick hit of a grinder or sander fixes that easily. Works great on the 590 also.
I used to use the gg&g one but it's not tard proof as it's literally just a bent piece of metal so it could fold up and eventually snap off if you readjust it too much. Putting a spacer under it would help however.
You could skip all the bullshit and just buy an integrated fore end which depending on what light and mount you use could actually be cheaper. Only real issue being that it's at 6 o'clock on the fore end so it could cast a pretty serious shadow depending on long you barrel is but they're designed to put the head forward and offset down to minimize that.
        https://cdmgear.com/product/roc-12r-barrel-clamp/
Link is the new version of the cdm mount which is very similar to the strike industries version and it's failing at not being so compatible with the 18 inch barrel version. Assuming you don't have heat shield this could still be mounted but with a bit of modification.

Doesn't bother me. What bothers me is how much heavier they make the gun feel. I have the Streamlight TL-Racker and the Surefire DSF 590, and I don't use either one on my 20" 590A1 anymore. If I was ever going to use them again, it would be on a short barreled shotgun

Are you me? Also, grab a 14in police surp barrel with rifle sights if you can, they regularly appear on ebay and are dirt cheap. That's what I have on mine, makes shooting slugs a lot more accurate.

Thanks for the idea for the barrel. I mostly been debating on tossing a rail on there and putting on a red dot or something.

Semi-related question but does anyone know the true weight of the 590a1 retrograde?
The specs on mossberg's site don't seem to be accurate.

Goodmorning. It's all my lgs had during the coof anyhow

        >May eventually upgrade to a surefire scout or something
If it survives the recoil, why even bother "upgrading"? As long as it sufficiently lights up your environment for defensive purposes, and it doesn't break, a flashlight is a flashlight

        Agreed.

I should add: the polytac takes two cr123s whereas a surefire scout mini takes one (as far as i know) and will give the same output.

Surefire lights are expensive. You would have to go through more batteries than most weapon lights go through in their lifetimes before that calculus makes sense. You do you though anon

The Surefire DSF’s can be had for the occasional good deal on auctions sites.

Yeah, I've got one of those too. It's ergonomically much better than the Stream light forend, but it's too heavy for my particular gun. On a sbs or 18" gun with a normal barrel profile it'd be my ideal light

Thought you were replying to a different post. I'd still say it's way too much money to spend if you already have a setup that works

I use the forends with a light built in, I think surefire makes them. Mine are all police surp from late 90s/early 2000s, you can fine them cheap sometimes then just swap out the old incandescent bulb for an LED. New ones are under $100 usually, so not terrible even buying new.

I hear a lot of good things about the streamlight integrated forend ones, other then that I tend to see squared away people running a smaller streamlight(pistol or subgun light) off of a pic rail section attached to a forend with Mlock slots. They look a lot less girthy than the integrated forends but activation is a tiny bit less ergonomic. They also can be used as a sort of hand stop for recoil mitigation.

I find it a lot more ergonomic than the switch on the TL-Racker. That forend in general feels terrible in my hand

I'm with you, the TL racker feels like shit in my hand.
I've been thinking of just putting an inforce light on mine for press on/off since I'd rather not deal with a switch and cables on my forend. Seems simple and effective enough

Whatever keeps it there, I just got some random mini m-lok rails. I used zipties and loctite to ensure my cheap flashlight stays there. Honestly I have no fricking clue what I'm doing but so far it's worked for me after several hundred rounds down the pipe so far.
