can't it be done by just, I dunno, pulling the trigger fast? Full autos dump mags in seconds, no?
The professional use is for hitting moving targets at short range with rifles or hitting moving targets at long range with tripod-mounted MGs.
It's also a cheap way to boost conscript effectiveness in CQB.

how does full auto improve accuracy? >It's also a cheap way to boost conscript effectiveness in CQB.
how does it boost their effectiveness? These are legitimate questions, I just don't see it/understand it.
>boost conscript effectiveness in CQB.
In a room clearing situation it would be pointing the barrel instinctively and either fanning the trigger in semi or holding for a short burst. More bullets mean you're more likely to quickly incapacitate the adjacent target. Urban combat sucks, do not recommend.
I disagree that it makes conscripts more effective.
>how does it boost their effectiveness
Spraying at point blank is more likely to get hits and more of them. It provides negligible benefit for professionals, but for retards it boosts their dangerousness towards the skill cap.
>how does full auto improve accuracy
In USMC tests short bursts raise the chance of hitting a running man 50m away from 40% to 60%.
At long range (machine gun ranges of 600-900m) there's also physical lag involved which snipers can't fully compensate for because predicting the target's motion doesn't matter if they trip, freeze, or randomly dodge. A machinegun solves the problem of random motion by covering an entire 2-4mil wide area with too many rounds to accidentally or luckily evade this way.

If you're talking about handheld weapons, full auto is easier to implement mechanically than burst mode. So early weapons had an automatic mode, and if you wanted burst you would just tap the trigger. This created the expectation that a gun should have full auto, which is why it continued to this day.

I see, that would make sense. So the intention was still burst like shooting, yes?
Even heavy machine guns are expected to fire in bursts. There is usually a preferred burst length that armies teach for each weapon. These bursts are supposed to be aimed too and not just firehose.
Okay for mounted or emplaced machine guns to use volume of fire to kill everything in a cone and give somebody a fright. Not very useful for anything else.
Volume of fire compensates for inaccuracy. If you shoot a hundred bullets someone's way, chances are one of them is either going to hit close enough to either suppress or neutralize. Very useful in situations where you can't exactly see where the enemy is (most combat situations), or when he's only visible for a second.
Full auto is also extremely useful for extremely close quarters combat, clearing enemy positions, trenches, fortifications. When you're close enough to see the whites of the enemy's eye balls, you NEED to introduce as many holes in him as possible, because he's doing the same to you.
you're correct, but this webm illustrates your point badly, like those faux-black-and-white TV infomercial dramatizations where everybody just turns braindead, guy stopped firing as he came around the corner and was certainly not clicking fast enough in the first place.
sorry buddy, i just donated more money so a Ukie squad can decimate an entire Vatnik battalion lol footage will be uploaded to r/ukrainewarcombatfootage & posted in Nafocord too cry about it >last reply from me 🙂

ughh i agree with you on principle but why do you have to be so cringe. Just look at combat footage neutrally and don't get butthurt when you see ukies bite the bullet. War is hell.
It's cruise control for cool. Memes aside, it's for suppressing fire with less guns.

It doesn't. It improves hit probability by saturating the area with bullets. Spray and pray. Duh.

It's for final defensive fire when your position is being assaulted. That's it.
firepower multiplication

I'm sure there are use cases for two seconds of sustained fire, but the expected use is to put three holes in a guy rather than one, yes.
