I think nunchuck is a good club for a function like policeman’s baton. Obv it takes a little more skill to not hurt yourself but it does the trick if you can.

It is a terrible weapon against any other weapon though (other than clubs)

Horrible, a dog beating stick like this is far easier to utilize.

Worse than an unbroken stick the length of both chucks. It makes a stick more concealable but reduces its impact as a weapon.

      ????
Wrong on endless fronts, a set of nunchucks has infinitely more impact versus a stick because it can spin to generate and leverage momentum and velocity with it's weight

It doesn't have the follow through power
If you follow through with a club (like a baseball bat) it'll cause way more damage

          Anonymous

Not true, follow through power isn't a thing. Follow through power is just not pulling your blow and reducing all the velocity. A nunchuck is going to dump nearly all of it's energy the second it impacts your opponents head (or more likely your own head), and if used correctly is going to crack your skull just the same as a baseball bat

All things considered the bat probably would cause more damage but that's just because it has way more mass to leverage

In a fight no one is gonna let you spin a gay ass baton around to build momentum. They're gonna hit you and you're gonna get fricked up cause you're spinning the thing you use to parry. The only way I can see this being useful in a fight is as a flail against shielded opponents or as some sort of grappling weapon. Now you can say you can use it with a shield but at that point just use a proper flail.

That's the exact point I made in my other post thought, op is asking about concealing it now which implies it'd be used in an area where he won't even have the room to spin it up.

The post of mine you just replied to however is correct from a technical standpoint. If you were able to spin it up and get a proper strike in it's going to cause similar damage to a bat while being alot less sluggish on the actual strike. Although yes that scenerio where you're able to get it spun up is unrealistic in of itself

This is scientifically illiterate. Follow thru means nothing in real terms. It’s a way to convey to people the concept of not decelerating towards end of swing. It doesn’t ACTUALLY do anything

Cool in '80 kung fu movies. Very practical in '80 kung fu movies. If I was in an '80 kung fu movie I'd definitely use one.
Nobody uses those IRL because why would they, it looks like merchandising memed by businessmen looking to sell kung fu paraphenalia to kung fu movie fans. If I were to defend myself with kung fu meme shit IRL I'd sooner use that garden hose thing advertised by David Carradine.
Besides this thing is just an asian flail, I'd rather use an actual european flail considering its longer reach and a legacy of being an actual weapon.

I can't see a situation where you would want to conceal this instead of a knife, a garrote or quite frankly just a regular baton.

You'd be far better off concealing a hammer or large wrench on your person

It'd likely weigh less, take up less space, and be far more useful and cause much greater damage if you actually needed it

          Anonymous

Nevermind wanting to conceal it, but if one needs to conceal a weapon that implies it will have to be used in tight close quarters environments.

The nunchuck is almost a paradox in that one must be very close to the enemy to actually strike with it, but needs a wide open area to properly spin up the strike

If you are in an area where you've concealed the nunchuck you'll find yourself only able to use it as a shitty whip at best and a horrible club at worst

It's shit, just like with most weapons that originated from farming tools and people thought looked cool to wield as weapons or was used by necessity by poor revolutionaries. It either originated from the Tabak-Toyok which was used to thresh rice or just an ordinary flail.

The only Melee weapon worth considering both in ancient times aswell as modern times is the spear

    >Inb4 some homosexual chimes in saying the Romans used swords
No they didn't, they used swords as a backup and close quarters weapon, they mainly used spears and their most important battles were won by the spear and the spear alone.

Nunchucks are objectively worse then equivalent length of club, but are perfectly good for striking with some extra training, like a flail, and are intended for concealed carry anyway. You can't hide a two or three foot stick in your sleeves, but if it can fold in half seamlessly, you can hold one side of either, and your big sleaves will cover it well enough. So when someone rushes you you can quickdraw it like a whip or katana, and crack a skull with it. Or you can disguise it as a wheat thresher, until you get close enough to a local lord, before you demonstrate you can swing it like a flail and strike hard enough to bash his brains out.
Same with three section staff. It's just a bigger one.
A lot of Shaolin weapons are quite good, frankly, but many date from a period where battle was all about the training in the single, lifelong field, and not about competitive ideas or technology, so the weapons themselves are incredibly old designs, that were designed to follow concepts, philosophies, or to ape natural features or animals, as much as provide a function or utility. And even then, the functions varied in usefulness in direct engagement.
Regardless, while not the most optimized, they performed very well to task with training.

Shadiversity is occasionally right, and often has some good points on theoretical combat, like DnD and such, but at the end of the day the most involved he's been in is HEMA, and he doesn't often have all the reason or meaning behind some things to then be able to give a fair answer. He has a good grasp on competitive combat sciences, but not on other uses.
Saying the nunchuck is overrated next to a sword is like saying a glock is overrated because a browning machine gun can fire bigger bullets a whole lot longer and faster.

Two points in the nunchuk's favor.
    - a farmer who had been using one regularly all his life was probably somewhat half decent at swinging it without harming himself
    - it comes from a society where owning a sharp weapon was an automatic death sentence. You didn't get a fine, a stern talk, or prison. You was killed on sight.

Swinging as an actual farming flail to hit produce doesn't really translate to not hitting yourself in combat. For one thing if you're using it at a farm you're probably not gonna miss,
