Nothing major, its not like they have health bars. So long as the bullets are dispersed enough the armor would hold just fine

If I gave you $5 would you sit inside that tank while everyone at the shooting range unloads on you?

...Yes? If were talking something like an Abrams, Nothing anyone could legally bring to a range would be harmful.

          12 6-gallon tanks of gasoline.

that's not enough to make it warm inside, and if you bring at least two gas cisterns, the guy inside the tank will have to turn on the A/C

No tanks are made to handle things like that. Hell you could survive a chemical attack in a tank and flames all around you

Imagine how stupid you have to be to think this was an amazing comeback. Anyone inside will be perfectly safe. Also how poor are you holy shit.

Assuming I got proper ear protection, yeah, sure. All I have to do is just sit around for an hour and I get five bucks. There isn’t really anything that small caliber rounds can you do to modern tanks.

You need to examine the value of your time

It's not about the money, it's about enjoying he feeling of being the invincible king bastard of the range.

              >It's not about the money, it's about enjoying he feeling of being the invincible king bastard of the range.
That feeling will last about 5 minutes. Then it will become a chore and you'll get out your phone and play games or read a book or something. Tanks aren't luxury campers either.

Now if there were a few dozen people and EVERYONE chipped in $5 to shoot at me in a tank for an hour then sure now we're talking.

Only if I get to drive the tank.

It would be covered in lead and copper and make it heavier.

Perhaps!!! optics would be scratched. Other than that the paint would be gone.
Perhaps stuff like pintle mounts or headlights would be broken but nothing that would even come close to a mission kill. Its basically a very expensive form of sandblasting for the tank if you unload in your scenario

It would have several tiny dents in it. Maybe a broken optic or two.

    You're just making it stronger.

if it was 100k rounds to the front I'd say that every surface would be completely plated in copper and/or lead probably blocking optics and maybe (a big maybe as lead is pretty soft) clogging up tracks or turret traverse given the sheer amount of metal that would be jammed in there.

    no chance of penetration though

Rounds eventually create a buildup of copper and lead to the surface of the tank, adding more armor the longer it gets shot at

Damn, we should be shooting our tanks with small arms constantly.

instead of paying for backstops the military could pay us to make the tanks stronger

follow up question. What if all those 50-100,000 rounds hit EXACTLY the same spot on the tank, and lets say it isn't an angled surface.

it would be a lot of crap for someone to clean off the hull and out of equipment
