Isn't Antarctica basically all divided by different nations? Who's going to let them build a base there? Are they going to invade the British part of it?

IIRC yes but none of the claims are internationally recognized. The bigger problem is that Antarctica is a demilitarized zone.

Technically there are a bunch of nations which have claims, most of which can't (or won't) be enforced. The Chinese are in the process of building a couple bases (on Norway and New Zealand's claims, iirc)

There’s a stupid treaty from the late 1800s or something that the Chinese empire was a signatory on because the British and French were doing weird diplomatic things to get one over on each other that allows the current Chinese regime to build a base on a Danish or Norwegian island that’s right next to the North Pole; the island already has a bunch of bases on it from other countries because of said treaty but no one wants China there and realistically they would have no access to the North Pole if it wasn’t for said treaty. Idk about the South Pole since I think most expeditions leave from Chile and Antarctica is considered unclaimable by the UN, but I’m sure no country that claims a part of Antarctica wants to give China a foothold.

Apparently they have 4 (+1) bases in Antartica, but idk whose claims they're on

I guess the Antarctic treaty basically says that no one can militarize the Antarctic and that it is a scientific reserve but not that people have to renounce their claims or that countries have to recognize the claims of others. So I guess no one can really stop China by law if they want to build a base in the Antarctic for “science.”

Yeah, the difference between "military" and "surveillance" wasn't well established in the Antarctic Treaty. To be fair, I'm sure our (the west's) "science" outposts do a little bit of snooping too.

A good joke, but Islam is fortunately or unfortunately not moronic enough to mandate suicide by starvation. The general rule is "if it would result in the death of the sick, it no longer applies". Like for example if pork is the only food available, it is acceptable to eat.

Makes sense, Catholicism is the same way.
