the fuck is this "camo" supposed to be? they put zero effort into understanding the theory behind it. they just saw others have blocky-looking camo patterns, so they said to Rajesh to paint huge blocky shapes.

You don't understand, anon. By introducing contrast at the centre mass they're telling the enemy where *not* to shoot, it's simple reverse psychogy and why India will be a superpower by 2020

IDK if I saw that in the field I'd think twice because "nobody would be stupid enough to camo their tank like that"

I know this word is being overused like hell right now but literally a third world cargo cult understanding of the civilized world. Nothing makes them seethe like bongs and burgers but they can't help looking up to them. If white people do something it must be for good reason, so let's do the same but turn it up to 11.

Why do the Indians like these overengineered towed guns so much? Barely any other countries use these.

Too poor to have a modern and competent air force with lots of guided munitions.
These guns also saved their asses in the Kargil war.

        > 13000 kg for a 155mm gun

WTF!? How are they planning to fight in Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh with a howitzer that heavy.

How did they manage to put so much weight on it? Even the predecessor to the M777 weighed a little over half that.

Did they rip off the Leopard 2 A4 and cross-bred it with a T-72 or what

      Anonymous

That's what it looks like to me and they interestingly just cloned the leo2a4 turret from the 70s seemingly with no upgrade to optics

Well, they hired the original Leo2 designers as consultants, so yes.

A prolonged gestation period and an army who evidently weren't too sure themselves what they wanted.

A bespoke rifled gun for a tank entering service in the 2000s is silly but even moreso when it'll be forming part of a tank force which already employs 125mm smoothbore guns.

Indians still Cope That you can not have manualy loaded 125 mm And Hesh round in it.
Despite fact two Piece manually loaded Guns exist ( which would allow for separation of powder charges And / OR Longer 125 mm rounds)
Hesh 125 could have been developed, which could have opened op export market.

More one thiks about it more retarded exlusion of 125 mm Is.

Nothing. Next to the most modern iteration of the Abrams, it is probably the best tank in the world.

LMAO, it's a shit knockoff of a pre-A4 Leopard 2, with a dumb rifled gun tacked on for no reason.

why the fuck is it designed like a lego set? I can't imagine how awkward it must be for the crew to pilot.

      What went wrong?

      >Attempt to copy western MBTs
      >need to attach gunner optics on left of the turret
      >Do the Indians do A) have it stick above the composite armor so that the turret face is equal thickness,
      >B) Like the Leopard 2, have it in the turret face but then have composite behind it to that that section of the turret still presents its full thickness
      >Chose option B but don't put armor behind the optic.
      >For the Gun, do the Indians use the 125mm Russian gun? or do they decide to adopt the Western/Nato 120mm gun?
      >They decide to make a rifled 120mm gun that is weaker than the 105mm L7...

Now they did solve the armor issue with the Mk1a by putting the same composite armor thickness behind the optic, and apparently the gun is a better because they can use Gun launched ATGMs that are actually dangerous vs their normal 120mm ammo.

Yes I would, I'd rather stand outside the tank waiting to get shot instead of sitting directly above unprotected shell propellants.

Anon. One of the problems they found with the shitcrate was that the turret ammo compartment was faulty and blow-out panels had a decent chance of not preventing an ammo detonation from breaching the crew compartment. And they never fixed that, becuase it'd require a complete redesign of the turret. And then there's the Leo 2 style hull rack.

You're not sitting on top of the effectively unprotected ammo here. You're sitting right next to it.
