Not in NATO for most of the cold war, but probably the most powerful U. S. Ally during that time.
France was to NATO what China was to the soviets, kinda. Atleast in the 60s.

Italy because unlike all the other homosexuals that gave up, they continued to show the starfighter love. Also the BM59 is pure sex

You're garbage. The XB-70 was going to die anyway, a starfighter blowing up doesn't change the fact it was completely obsolete thanks to ICBMS

Why do you care? Go pretend you're flying one since even if they were fielded the SPs would shoot you for attempting access to the alert barn.

Aircraft don't need to be real for larping. Don't you have Star Wars to watch (again)?

Not even America, my country wasted millions on Starfighters that could have been used on something better. Even Lockmart knew they were shit, hence why they had to bribe everyone to buy them.

      F-104S and ASA were trash
the MTI on the latter didn’t even work cause by the time the computer was done filtering the ground from the radar image, the target was already 100m away
seriously how the frick do you keep starfighters in service up until 2004
we were flying those shitheaps for three years after the twin towers collapsed
the only thing I can agree on is that they were funny to look at

BM59 was better than M14 but was still inferior other contemporary battle rifles of the period.

Prolly Germany. Despite 1945 cucked, the Bundeswehr had 5K tanks and 500K active personal, with 1.3 in reserve. Would also consider the UK tho who had more experience and was active in multiple wars

I have to go with the British. They earned a lot of experience with their multitude of engagements in Asia and Africa. Second is a bit trickier. France gave and took a lot of blood in Vietnam, but with a relatively small number of involved units. Standing beside them is Portugal, whose many bloodspillings in Africa earned them a lot of curly chesthair.

West Germany had by far the strongest army, but overall probably the UK.

Best meaning what? Armies are for winning wars, but sperginess has tremendous appeal as do numbers since spergtards can count and that gives them illusions of competence.

Somewhere between the French, British and the West Germans. It should be remembered though that the West Germans were seen as having a.very limited life expectancy in most envisioned scenarios, with the Brits and the French holding the line in central Europe until US reinforcements arrive.

Actually west germany, despite whatever shit happened and it‘s medium size, it had a gigantic army and airforce with very modern equipment and excellent training.

With 5% of the GDP spent on the military and mandatory conscription it was Germany without any doubt.

The fact that people are either ignorant or in denial about this really shows how much the quality of /k/ has fallen.

      >it had a gigantic army and airforce with very modern equipment and excellent training
Real question is if WarPACT actually tried to start some shit would the West Germans have actually fought if put up against their East German counterparts. I'm sure Otto had no qualms about putting 7.62 into Ivan if push came to shove but if it was Heinrich from across the wall in his sights would he have pulled the trigger?

Both sides recognized this and deployed forces accordingly.
IIRC the East Germans were stationed against the British and the West Germans against the Soviets.

so what the frick happened? How did they go from best to worst so quickly?

The military didn't serve any purpose anymore.
Youngins tend to forget this but in the 90s the world was monopolar and Russia wasn't even a power anymore and Germany was surrounded by both allies and non-threats.
Plus, which is also often overlooked, contrary to France or Britain Germany had 0 oversea interests it needed an army for and 0 motivation to change that in any way. People know Schröder now as the guy who works at Gazprom, but he was also the guy who told America to frick off when it asked for people to join their middle eastern adventures.

Western Germany would've fought because they knew the slavs would follow behind their eastern German counterparts. It was much more likely for eastern Germans to simply stand down and refuse to fight (or in the long run, switch sides).

In retrospective, it is just very likely that esst germanys military would have quickly stopped fighting i‘d say.
West germans had everything to lose, and it‘s cold war general staff was made up of WW2 veterans or basically their sons in spirit.
East germans had nothing to gain if they fought, but would have gained an immense amount if they surrendered in the end.
Most of them knew that life was alot better in all aspects in the west, morale in the NVA was always pretty shitty. (East german dude serving in the bundeswehr, who‘s uncle was a east german combat diver) Like, even their elite units like Fallschirmjäger oder Combat Divers spent all their time just daydrinking and doing shenanigans like stealing officers uniform(who also were always drunk) and ordering poor conscripts around for fun while piss drunk lol, at least that‘s what my uncle did during his time.

Commiebloc militaries have always been rotten shitshows with barely any advanced training, poor morale and extreme corruption in addition to a moronic structure that favoured obedience over skill. And that is saying about the germans who at least still had NCOs and some skills left from the old days.

            Anonymous

Most east german conscripts just wanted to get over with it because life was even shittier in the NVA because while you were sweeping sand, running around in NBC gear or manning some shitty russian SAM system, Ralf Rudolf, the Butcher‘s son missing a finger or something wasn‘t conscripted and was probably fricking every girl back at home you knew.
Meanwhile Bundeswehr Chads could go home most weekends, drive a VW And drink legally after duty LMAO.
