SOF get into their minds that they're untouchable and the whole system that builds them up and backs them up reinforces it.

      QRD.
SEAL team was going up a mountain and got ambushed guy went down and giga chad airman Chapman to assist. He went frick this I need to kill these frickers so my team doesn't get ganked, beelined to the top of the ridge killed several enemies, took control of a bunker, and started to give support fire so the seal team can retreat. Chapman not knowing that the team was gone continued to fire, kill, and support until succumbing to overwhelming forces and died.
All captured on a CIA drone, the Navy stop the rewarding of the medal of honor to Chapman because basically it made the SEALs look bad so they agreed to give this fricko a MoH also even though he basically did frick all.

    >Senior Chief Slabinski maneuvered his team to a more defensible position, directed air strikes in very close proximity to his team's position, and requested reinforcements
Those guys are just always calling danger close while hiding in a hole, demanding more men before you'll try anything and writing it up afterwards for citations.

His problem is that he's a complete psychopath. For the record, he's blacklisted from all DEVGRU functions and gatherings. He is such an immeasurable shitbag that even the biggest group of war criminals ever assembled want nothing to do with him.

Bring it back to the camp fire anon, what happened?

It goes on with ofc a lefty media slant, but the gist is: Slabinski and his dudes read some war books "The Devil's Guard" which favored terror tactics. Slabinski later wanted "a head on a platter" and one of his dudes may have taken it literally and attempted a decapitation of an enemy body. Also disturbing tales of scalpings with the excuse of needing DNA samples n stuff. Multiple incidents in several squadrons in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I mean they're not running a death camp or anything but alot of bad and questionable shit got "solved at the lowest level" and was essentially ignored. The article tends to hint at the scalpings being WAY more widespread than originally reported.

Isn't it pretty much true that of all the high speed units out there the SEALS are considered the craziest? Even by fellow operators? Someone else can chime in on the seals reputation, my fat civilian ass would be the last to know.

Yeah, that sounds pretty plausible for a cultish SF unit high on their own rep.
I think it's pretty much the Aussie SAS scenario.
I know/knew an SAS vet from Cambodia days, he was around between Vietnam and GWoT and he'd tell stories with a laugh about how they were over there training guys for Misc Pot and saying that it was just orders and stuff and they felt nothing about it even though they knew it was pretty fricked up but he'd always come out with these stories, like all paths leading to Rome so it was kinda clear that he had this residual guilt about the whole thing that he couldn't clear so he'd keep bringing it up and bringing up how fricked up it was and how much he didn't feel anything about it.

SEALS morphed from beach obstacle demolition/amphibious assault recon into pipe hitters in the Mekong where they cut their teeth setting night ambushes for boat traffic and listing every asiatic they wasted as part of VC logistics. Whatever reputation they built since then took a massive shit during the war on terror due to the combined factors of being treated like rockstars (and acting accordingly), having their psychological and personality bars lowered to meet the manpower demands of counterterror on SF, and getting deeply triggered from the early death and mutilation of Neil Roberts at Takur Ghar in 02. Many SF gain a "crazy" rep but with the SEALS it's an unchallenged culture of shitheadery with emphasis on the cult.

Hypothetically if SEALs were disbanded what would most likely happen? Can't imagine it would be good.

Nothing good. Los Zetas founders were a bunch of ex-Mexican SF.

Mutliple pullblishing houses would declare bankruptcy, and much asshurt would result, plus a lot of criticism for using such a heavy-handed approach to a problem caused by a lack of oversight in the first place. Even Germany has partially rolled back the full disbandment of the KSK after their own frickery.

This is supposed to upset me? I thought it was going to be trafficking child slaves or something. The dirkas abided by no laws of war and I see no problem treating them accordingly.

Yeah it doesn't seem that bad but hey, slippery slope and all that. And as other anons were saying there's so much from that era that we still don't know about.

That intercept article is seething but we're not. We'd just like to know why he's so hated now. His own teamates hate him so SOMETHING was getting excessive.

I'm just saying, it's not a big deal. It's something you say 'stop, don't do that,' but that's because you don't want your SOF to degrade into Lord of the Flies bullshit run by actual psychopaths. Lack of control/professionalism is the main problem, and it doesn't just cause PR crises, but failed missions, and that's an unforgivable sin.

A lot of it will probably never be known because his era was one of an almost complete lack of accountability within DEVGRU.
