Britain was at war with France for 100 years and was never in a hot war with the Soviet Union. How can you be this retarded.

The French are secretly the real arms dealers of the world. Hardly a nation on Earth their defense contractors won't sell to.

They had way more experience in fighting the perfidious Anglos before the USSR was even a thing.

Outside the kamikaze, it's got the most tonnage sent to the bottom of the ocean of an AShM. That says something. It's also the only missile that has ever sank, let alone scratched the paint of a semi-modern western warship

Source? Irrc that would be the P15 Termit

Most of those ships were under or around 1,000 tons displacement. It's possible the Termit wins depending on how you want to classify cargo vessels.

I re-read the post i replied too i thought we were talking about Naval tonnage aka warships, sinking Merchant vessels is hardly an impressive feat.

Judging only by mythmaking, it's probably one of the best AShMs of the Cold War.

You can see the difference in quality between the British and French MIC in terms of their weapons delivered to Argentina. Anglo’s seethe that the Argentines used French missions to sink their ships, but the British themselves had sold missiles to the Argentines.
The French missile was the Exocet.
The British missile was the Blowpipe.

      Exocet

      Blowpipe
      >Shitty MANPADs

actually the bigger problem was that they had in friendlier times sold the argies several type 41 destroyers, equipped with sea dart the RNs primary air defense missile. analysis of which meant the argentinian airforce knew how to best negate its effectiveness.

this is why they made sea level bombing runs,

sea dart incidently did prove to be an effective system whenever something was stupid enough to fly in its envelope

Not quite as good as the Harpoon, better than contemporary Soviet ASCMs, and probably on par with the Otomat and RBS 15.

      >Not quite as good as the Harpoon
What made the harpoon better then other similar weight western missiles? I have seen this a lot but I dont really get why?

generally led the way in features. iirc it had a turbojet sustainer and gps waypointing a decade before the exocet did and the french only started scrambling to catch up once the US loosened the restrictions on who they sold it to and it ate the exocet's market overnight in the early 2000s.
