      The F-35 and MiG-29's helmets aren't even close to comparable. Also, the US independently developed and adopted the same tech as the Soviets literally the exact same year.

              The Russian Air Force is abbreviated as 'VVS' which when written in Cyrillic looks like BBC

              In cyrillic, B -> V and C->S

              It's abbreviating Boeннo-вoздyшныe cилы, which is Voyenno-Vozdyshye sily.

      it's basically a gen0 version of apple goggles, and you can look through the plane using a bunch of cameras embedded in the surface of the airplane. it costs a lot of money because it is gen0, military grade, and custom fitted for each pilot.
      there's also some other stuff i think.

    Lack of understanding. Many believed it was literally a football helmet with an LCD screen. The thing is made of pure carbon fiber, which immediately raises the price to "frickin' expensive" regardless of whatever else is attached to it.

    I don't remember anyone sperging out about it. It replaces a ton of HMI on the plane so it probably evens out. The only bad things I remember is pilots complaining it was heavy but I imagine later generations improved that

    • 3 weeks ago
      Anonymous

      >heavy
      I figured that was why they were trying to make the thing out of carbon fiber

    • 3 weeks ago
      Anonymous

      I think many people don’t understand the heavy complaint fully.

      The helmet weighs about 5 lbs, in a 7g turn now it’s 35lbs
      If you have to eject you can hit 20g momentarily, or 100lbs. Add to that the weight of the head (+11lbs at 1g, +77@7g, +220@20g) and you’re looking at having to support over 100lbs on your neck in normal combat situations and a 300 pound ticket to snap city if you ever need to eject and your head isn’t positioned correctly. If it is then spinal compression and fracture

      wouldn't be the first time a Project is a over bloated piece of shit. on another hand generalizing in one way or another doesnt get us the reality of how expensive one really is. another thing is that Prototypes are inflated in Cost in a market sense as well. just look at Hermeus and the quarterhorse. you dont need 500 new hires every 6 months to get a good product. just some Junk works Bros.(i hope i wont eat my fricking words and they actually pull their current program off without getting dismantled by big Tech c**ts or incompetency)
