      >In the 1986 Hindawi affair, a Palestinian Arab terrorist romanced an Irish woman working as a chambermaid in a London hotel, getting her pregnant, asking her to marry him and persuading her to fly on an El Al airliner to be introduced to his family in Damascus, Syria. She was stopped by airport security at Heathrow, who discovered that he had planted a bomb in her suitcase before taking her to the airport to put her on the flight.

the same as any other guerilla force anon - sabotage, assassination, ambushes, propaganda and intelligence work

flying columns - when you have a bunch of your guerillas on the run from authorities you can still give them bikes (Vietcong used bikes extensively too) and use them as independently-coordinated elements that blend into the population to harass supply and communication lines, sabotage, and ambush the enemy while supplementing your other forces

also started using Armalites which were powerful enough to defeat armor on some of the lighter bong IFV's

The OIRA and IRSP/INLA always were traitors who answered to Moscow. Whatever can be said about teh PIRA Moscow did not trust them and they shot more of the INLA and OIRA than the British Army. I think it is great that all side and participants in the conflict whether Catholic Irish and Republican, Orange Protestant and Unionist, Irish Government, British Government, British Government, Sinn Fein the Tory party can all get together and agree to kill these pieces of Putin wiener washing traitors

Armalites and Semtex provided by stupid Americans in New York. Oddly the idea of terrorism is seen as less romantic in the last 20 years, not sure why.

In reality they were always more organised crime outfits that claimed they were doing it in a good cause.

Another source of income was training islamicist groups in how to make IEDs. If you noticed Americans getting a certain lack of sympathy in this area post invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, now you know.

Yeah, that was assad you halfwit. I get it you hate the provos and they mixed with the PLO for sure but you are running away with yourself there. IRSP filth who report to Moscow need to be removed just like some Unionists dancing to Moscows tune in the company of BNP members. Call it a cross community cleanup.

The link from the PLO was in no doubt after the interception of the Claudia. The reverse link is less good, the Israelis thought it was the case in the 2nd intifada though which the is the contemporary connection. Israel also though the infra-red detonation stuff came from the IRA in 2005. Certainly we know for sure they were training ETA, the ANC and FARC in explosives. I suppose the wider part is that if you talk about "global war on terror" the IRA aren't some sort of isolated outlier, they are balls deep in it. After all, why wouldn't they be.

The IRA by which I assume you mean the PIRA no longer exist. That is why they wouldn't be and they ceased to exist effectively before 9/11

They are very much still around. I didn't say they were an organised crime group just to defame them. Perhaps they are less interested in political terrorism these days but that isn't the same thing.

I for one personally greatly resent Moscow in its current predicament trying to utilise assets on the extremes of each community in Ulster to incite violence on the island of Ireland. I consider all such people whether they refer to themselves as Republicans or Loyalists to be traitors to their communities and the democratic will of the majority for peace. As such their lives are forfeit.

"One could trace the escalation by the arms used; first shotguns and an old Thompson, then Lee-Enfields and next American M-ls. Then came the Armalite and soon more sophisticated European examples and then a full rearmament with the arrival of shipments from Libya in 1985-87. There were by then after two decades weapons of choice for active-service units: the Heckler and Koch, Beretta sub-machine guns, or the Libyan AK-47. As far as such weapons were concerned, there had been a sea change: there were more guns than gunmen, more AK-47s than could be deployed - a rare Irish example of over-supply.
Mac Stiofain had sent an agent abroad who managed in 1972 to acquire RPG-7 rocket-launchers; friends in America shipped over real United States Army machine-guns, The IRA even unsuccessfully sponsored research-and-development of a missile in America. What proved highly effective was the arrival of Libyan Semtex to complement the existing explosives made or stolen. The major long-lasting American connection, however, came through a well-known radical Irish Republican in Brooklyn, George Harrison - too obvious to attract the law-enforcement people for long. He and a few friends, especially a neighbourhood acquaintance George Meo, bought from gun stores, deceptively packed the results, and shipped to an unknown receiver in Ireland, each step being in theory compartmentalized. Thus for nearly ten years the American connection supplied the QMG with the ideal guerrilla weapon, the civilian version of the military M-l6, the Armalite, that could be purchased legally as a deer-rifle."
