Yeah idk what that dude is smoking.
germs did use the FAL prior to the G3, they just couldn't secure domestic production for it because (rather understandably) belgium was happier having the control in that relationship. Dudes harp on domestic production on here all the time, it makes a lot of sense. not gonna entertain that g36 bs it's so overplayed at this point. Like, I have a fair familiarity with BW practices, political culture and procurement history, I'm hardly one to sing it's praises, but as always the majority of these points in these threads are just brainrot.

Yes, but what everyone is missing is that the Germans are giving pogues Peltors as well. Does a pogue need a 2.6k Peltor? No. Absolutely fricking not. That's the problem, and it's why the procurement costs 2b rather than a couple hundred mil.

      Side question.
Why don't they use earplugs? Over the ears are heavy, bulky, interfere with helmets (high cut autism cap RFLMAO), and very hot in hot climates.

these are for aircrew and team members. they need hearing protection, be able to communicate, and also not leak noise into their environment. they’re decent headsets but i really don’t think worth $2700. part of military contracts used to be unquestioned and hasty replacement of defective and broken equipment but that doesnt seem to be the case anymore

        Anonymous

The big one is sound amplification, you can hear better with these on than you can with nothing while earplugs filter a lot of high frequency like drone rotors.

also if they have an engineering problem (headphones wont work in this specific environment/location/piece of equipment) they can find a fix/solution within hours/days instead of needing to draft out a brand new work contract for this shit.

  4. 3 weeks ago

This "court of auditors" (Bundesrechnungshof) has made absurd criticisms recently. Like, they criticized the German procurement office for testing the new HK416 with civilian high precision 5.56mm ammo instead of the Bundeswehr G36 ammo, and called it a help for the manufacturer. But the 416 is planned to be introduced exactly with this new high precision 5.56mm ammo, so it absolutely makes sense to test it with it.

And here they do the same shit: They criticize that not all soldiers need these headsets, because they won't all have the proper radios. They demand Bundeswehr only buys ear protectors for soldiers without these radios.
That this is an investment in the future and that these radios will be procured at a later time for the rest of the soldiers somehow doesn't get into their brains. Discount when buying in bulk and upgradability, who needs it, right?

      >it absolutely makes sense to test it with it.
It does. What doesn't make sense is why of all the contenders, the HK was the only rifle to be tested with the spiffy high precision ammunition. Ok I lied, it does make sense, there's a perfectly rational explanation for this, and that reason is corruption.

        >What doesn't make sense is why of all the contenders, the HK was the only rifle to be tested with the spiffy high precision ammunition.
You obviously don't know what you're talking about. This isn't about the tender for the G36 successor. This is the ongoing testing for implementation of the rifle in the armed forces. All contender rifles were tested with the same ammo in the procurement process. The winner is now tested again with the ammo that is being newly procured.
Bundesrechnungshof is criticizing that they test the new weapon with the new ammo.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. The HK - alone among the contenders - was tested with civilian high-precision ammunition during the initial evaluation.

They’re ONLY testing the high quality ammo with the HK. The other entries did not get the high end ammo.

Not even shocking. Might as well just gut the entire Bundeswehr since it's a mockery of a military anyhow.

This has nothing to do with the military. Defence minister Pistorius has a very high approval rating and had been brought up multiple times as a possible early replacement for chancellor Olaf Scholz. Scholz meanwhile has the worst approval rating of any chancellor in German history which reflects very poorly on his party and is likely to cost them EU and a series of regional elections this year. As such the idea of giving him the boot and replacing him with Pistorius has been floating around for some time in Social Democratic circles.
Of course while Scholz is worthless as a leader he's a good slime bag and schemer. You can bet this entire scandal was initiated by him to ruin the reputation of the only person in the government people don't actively hate.

Not government. The federal auditors court is very independent and not part of the government.

But it's run by a conservative, so of course they're doing their best to sabotage the center-left government right now.
