I am prepping by building a bunker, stockpiling freeze dried food, making a full suit of bullet resistant armor, stockpiling ammo, and a few useful guns. Guns are 2 pistols of different caliber, a shotgun, and a hunting rifle. Wish I had the certifications for an automatic weapon, but that would cut into my budget too much.

      Anonymous

The armor suit is too heavy without a vehicle or an animal, and an animal is a b***h to take care of in an enclosed space. Unironically consider a bicycle and stockpiling some repair components for it.

        Anonymous

It will be fairly light and not worn often. It is fiber glass fabric layer and glued with fiber glass epoxy and compressed. The whole suit will weigh less than a suit of medieval plate, but be less flexible due to the thickness of the fiber glass plates. I am already training to be able to travel decent distances under the weight. I can go about 10 miles in a day with 50 lbs of weight. I have thought of adding some braces to my legs and back to help support the weight and keep me mobile for longer. I have also thought about adding some kangaroo shoes to the rig to improve running speed. People have been able to run 30 mph with those things on.

Extreme weather, big bad supply chain collapses, power outages, mild civic instability: Have food, power, firearm, training, and friends who know to come to where I'm at if things ever look grim.

Nuclear war, the habbening, aliums etc: Hopefully die instantly. There's just some stuff you don't wanna live through, like being in an air bubble in a sunken ship.

    - conscription service, hiking/hunting/fishing experience, construction/farming experience
    - guns, hiking/hunting/fishing/construction/farming equipment, radio gear, solar and crank power sources
    - a house and a cabin with storages of gear/food/water, a car
    - in case of bad event, go to cabin. In case of huge bad event, drive south or north if that increases odds of making it.

You're absolutely right, considering I need more than a fuel tank to reach them, about 800-1000km depending on the path I choose. After a nuclear happening, it wouldn't be much better than having to reach another planet. My house is still technically in the countryside, but in a much more populated area since I live between two large cities, so less than ideal for most shtf scenarios. At least I have food and water reserves and obviously guns, but my best bet is having good relationship with my neighbors who are mostly families with kids and old people.

Reminder that if you don't have a plan for bugging out, then you're an absolute fricking moron. 1.3% of adults in the US were forced to leave their home due to natural disasters in 2022, with about .87% being away from home for more than a week and .22% having their home destroyed:

A real life apocalypse scenario won't be le based battle royale, like the video games and movies depict. Cormac McCarthy had the right idea.
It will be a miserable, soul-crushing slog. You won't be some sort of based post-apocalypse warlord. If you're to survive for any length of time, you will be a wretched half-feral creature, doing things that will haunt you to continue an existence that hates you.
Your greatest enemy will not be raiders or ZOG blue helmets or anything nearly quite so exciting and morally justifiable to kill.
You will be fighting other, equally desperate individuals, maybe people with families they need to provide for; that sort of thing.
You the kind of guy to take a unarmed families last bit of food at gunpoint to sustain your existence?
But then, people won't be your main problem.
      Natural will.
One overhunted by a few dozen million people who had the same idea you did.
Infections, weather, yada yada. Turns out theres a lot of things that can kill you innawoods.
I suppose in a manner of speaking, dying of severe dysentery could be interpreted as "Leaving this existence with the biggest firework possible"

    >What is your emergency contingency place? How will you survive various emergency situations?
That depends on if the state/feds/someone else is going to working to restore order within a few days. If not, you're looking at a serious natural or man made disaster that you should be evacuating from. And yes, that's including the vast majority of people who aren't prepared for such a situation who will start to panic if no one is working to restore order as a serious disaster.

If someone is showing up to work to restore order, then either continue with my normal life if possible, volunteer to help, or get comfy at home while they do their thing.

For long term hardships like real hyperinflation, Great Depression 2, or similar, stock up on the luxuries you enjoy that would cease to be available to help keep up morale. Any event where stocking up on basic needs would be an issue would end up back in the serious natural or man made disaster category that you should be evacuating from. Anything else isn't worth prepping for.

The best contingency is making a network of people tight enough that you can fall back on them, and that they can fall back on you. Also have a solid grasp of what exactly your position will be in this network you have made for yourself.
    There is strength in numbers

individuals will coalesce into small gangs to survive
small gangs will coalesce into clans and tribes to survive
clans and tribes may, after The End comes, eventually coalesce into proto-states of the post apocalyptic future

    Guns? Ammo? Food?
    No.

Despite the apparent fake nature of the corona shit, I've spent first few months of 2020 cocooned in my house.
I've learned a few things, but mostly the issues I need to address are electricity generation, and water collection and storage. Few moves like collecting a water tank to gutters and installing a few stealthy solar panels facing the yard with a little bluetti station creating a microgrid, I can stay holed up forever.

I have a couple 5 gallon buckets sealed and full of rice, beans and spam. I don't like spam which is why I chose it. I also put salt and peanutbutter in there.

I have a solar charger and a propane heater but solar charger is only good for a cell phone and the propane take is only good for a few hours of heat. I also have trees and a fireplace if I need to.
I have 16 gallons of gas in the garage with sta-bil and I keep my tank full.

If shit goes down, I'm either staying home or loading up and driving backroads until I get somewhere else.

As for weapons, I have more ammo than I could ever survive needing and enough guns to give 1 to every neighbor.

That said, I'm on blood pressure meds, wear contacts... I figure I'm solid for a couple of months but if order isn't restored by then it wouldn't be good.

Oh and I've got 30 gallons worth of potable water and a water filter... and if need be I'll go down to the river and get some to boil.

I'm not telling the google AI overlord anything else though.

What most survivalists miss is how humans are inherantly a cooperative species. Almost regardless of scenario I'd try to form a tight nit group with a broad skill set as soon as possible. Anyone with knowledge of farming or gardening, hunting and fishing, and very importantly medicine, would be invaluable. Going Inna woods shooting durrs and hiding from drones is only going to last as long as your rations do or until you get a scrape in the wrong place.

My plan would to be establish a landed compact between a group of likeminded, peace loving, but well armed people. Build up population and assets, then send convoys to take all the shit from the dumbasses who kept themselves in a locked down compound alone who would have invariably died of starvation or offed themselves. Share and trade with others as much as possible, establish peaceful relations as soon as possible so we can make use of whatever limited resources we have to produce what we can and establish a viable zone of control.

After Armageddon if Im lucky I might just survive, but so help me God my family and community will thrive because of what I do. Anything mortal that'd like to challenge that can argue with 30-06.

This in like worst case scenario collapse, but more generally having an emergency plan should 100% contain a network of folks. Whether it be man made or natural an emergency situation is almost always best delt with more than one person. Folks can usually keep shit together long enough for emergency services to kick in enough.

I guess it's not so much a plan as it is my experience living through one. Hurricanes are something else

My family used to own half of all the market gardens in my city until the 90's when they sold them and moved out to the country to go large scale. When COVID lockdowns were looking pretty fricking grim, I just went 4x4ing to avoid main roads that were being blocked and called my grandpa to let him know I was taking up living in the walled property at the rear of a block his earthmover rental business sat on, not far from his property. Back then I'd just installed the basics like a solar and generator system, groundwater pump and purifier, rain catchment and food stores, but he left the property to me in his will and I've expanded it since. Sadly I can't spend enough time there to keep a constant rotation of crops, but I have the space, equipment and massive stockpiles for rapid germination and high-yield growth for any time of the year.

COVID was a pretty excellent dry-run for determining timing and preparedness, as well as a reality check for just how authoritarian the government could become in such a short time, as well as the amount of materiel needed to get myself up and running. It also demonstrated that even concerted law enforcement searches couldn't locate me, as a neighbour snitched that someone had driven onto the property, in violation of lockdown rules, and yet after 4 attempts to navigate the property, they still came no where near finding me. Unfortunately, I have a girlfriend and kid now, so all my planning and practice will be insufficient if the time does actually come.
