What is the situation in Bakhmut

Fatniks keep shilling on overdrive so I’m guessing this is either their first minor victory in almost 6 months or the situation has stabilized for Ukraine

Wagner has effectively destroyed the majority of Ukraine's army, they've probably sustained close to 100k casualties just to keep the city which is beyond moronic but who would expect anything else from oinkers

      >muk 100k casualties

So given proven casualty ratios this means 500k-1 million russian casualties. Wow.

That's less than 1% of the russian population. We can lose 25 times that many and we would barely feel it.

Okay. 100k is less than 0.25% of the Ukrainian population. They could lose 40 times that and would barely feel it.

Damn. With that kind of damage, surely the front has collapsed and bakhmut has fallen under the combined arms onslaught of the fully mechanized and modernized pozzyian army?

Daily reminder that most of the shill farms are managed by Prigozhin's men, and even the Russian MoD joined the chorus of "gayner did absolutely nothing noteworthy for the past 10 years" so they're regrouping for the next shill wave.

can somebody frickign tell me did they or didn't they capture soledar? the incredible shilling campaign here leads me to believe that it isn't going as well as they hoped.
which is funny, since we had months of ''bakhmut will fall'' threads and then magically it was all soledar all the time

Ukrianians keep holding the western part of town and all possible approaches now just result in Russkies running into a crossfire from multiple sides due to the way the palce is laid out. They've been completely stuck for like a week now.

They did. There's stll some fighting on the western outskits but it is captured.

This. Prigozhin literally hired shills to make up Wagner's public image.

its unclear, but I'd be inclined to say Soledar is as-good-as-captured. Ukraine have fallen back to the Western outskirts at the least.

Problem is there's high ground to the West and North and Ukraine hold positions here (and in Bakhmut of course) which make getting materiel into defensible positions in Soledar challenging / attritional. Thus, the grind continues.

Wagners spent six months suiciding into Bakhmut. Eventually the cook started crying about how it's probably not possible to take the city. He decided to attack Soledar instead. Wasted something like two months achieving nothing but getting Wagners, convicts and mobiks killed. At that stage Putin had enough and told Gerasimov to do something. So a bunch of VDV got redeployed into the area and successfully took most of Solidar before running out of steam. Wagner declared victory prematurely and want everyone to think they took Soledar. Now they're b***hing about how they need 70k more men all while General Armageddin'out got booted for his incompetence.
tl;dr: Frick Wagner. VDV is the last competent unit in the Russian army.

Why is Russia losing the war? Is it just as simple as corruption damaging their force projection capabilities?

I don't understand how they couldn't take Kiev in the early days and now how they've been pushed back from Kharkov, Izyum, Lyman, Kherson, etc.

A 10-day special operation entering its second year soon.

    What went wrong?

Internal corruption, lack of motivation, logistical incompetence, and a moronic officer corps with an even dumber pool of enlisted men seem to be the big issues.

      the answer is kinda complex but can be explained pretty easily through three points;
      >corruption
the fall of the soviet union really fricked russia up, which resulted in the overall condition of their military to decrease as their stocks were sold off or stolen.
russia still hasn't recovered and this resulted in relatively poor and/or outdated equipment being used
      >lack of training and doctrinal problems
despite the attempted modernisation, the russian military still relies on the soviet model of doing war, which has been proven to not really work in the modern age and with a crippling lack of resources
that, and the generally poor state of training and equipment of their troops
      >underestimating the enemy
they genuinely thought that ukraine would surrender or be unwilling to fight against them, so they failed to take precaution

in certain ways they NEVER advanced from the earliest 1900's.
      Their logistics is inherently FRICKED.
So pallets? Those are important because you can load or unload a bunch of things in a bundle, and keep it off the ground and thus water, dirt, etc.
The earliest form of them was made in like 1915.
Russia STILL doesn't have them or an equivalent.
So EVERY time they need to load ANYTHING, they do it one box at a time, and dump shit on the ground.
They can take half an hour to an hour to load/unload something that would take a pallet a minute.
I cannot stress how much this fricks them over.
Russia's primary handicap has ALWAYS been logistics due to how far apart things are.

    A bit of both.
See gayner specialises in assaults, not holding territory. So in the current dick-measuring contest going on in the Russian Home Front between the Church, the Kremlin and Wagner, what has happened was basically this.

    >Prighozin spends months talking shit about regular armed forces and saying how ONLY Wagner is capable of taking territory
    >They then have to keep coming up with excuses about why they currently aren't gaining ground in Bakhmut, ranging from how only taking around 100m max a day is the norm in modern manoeuvre warfare or that they are doing everything solely by themselves (both of which are complete bullshit
    >Wagner hype themselves up too much where if they don't achieve SOMETHING soon their boss is going to look very bad in the press and it could damage his up and coming political career
    >Decide to focus on Soledar and get all of the best troops Wagner has left to storm it after the customary 20 penal legionary waves
    >Succeed and force Ukrainians to the edge of town
    >Many a great party is held among the Wagner faction back home for the first notable achievement Russia has had in months
    >Wagner then asks for the DNR and Russian Army to move in and hold the ground they captured
    >"What?" they say
    >"Surely the mighty Wagner does not need the help of us pathetic, impotent mongrels?"
    >"After all, you've done EVERYTHING by yourself so far, why do you need us?"
    >Wagner's best and brightest proceed to get pancaked by artillery and ground down in Ukie counter-attacks because they can't afford to let Soledar fall after making such a big deal out of it
    >All of the Anti-Wagner factions rejoice, as it takes the sting out of their rivals tail
    >Soledar returns to Ukie hands by Feb as the actual competent soldiers are replaced by penal legionaries who inevitably get ground back to the starting line

Honestly, the most interesting part of this war currently is just how hard the various Russian factions are trying to frick each other over.

It's almost like there's a civil war being fought. Except they aren't fighting directly, and rather just fricking each other over in such a way that the other side will die at the hands of Ukraine in greater numbers

Call me a shill, but I unironically don't think Bakhmut will remain in UA hands for long. Wagner just took the Sil Train Station (West of Soledar) and Klishiivka (south of Bakhmut). If you look at a map, the routes to Bakhmut are getting dangerously close to bein in RU fire range.
But what worries me most is this: Russia is advancing around Bakhmut at all. Given the supposed UA force presence and resource allocation, I find it weird they're able to advance at all.
I hope the Ukies are preparing another Kharkiv or something similar and that's why they don't have resources to spare (as Zaluzhny hinted on several times). Otherwise dunno.
I also follow several volunteers on Twitter who are describing pretty nasty losses around Bakhmut. Most of them say vastly more Russians die for each one of theirs, and a few say it's slightly the opposite. So here's hoping.

Nah, it's just that falling back when getting overrun give better kil ratios.
They're trading land for lives, even Bahkmut is expendable once nearly all of it is rubble.

Most likely this. There's no reason to stand and receive when withdrawing pulls the Russians out of position at the same time they're logistically hemorrhaging. While the Russians bleed themselves on a pointless front, Ukraine conserves its strength for their spring offensive.
