I wish I could blow that kind of cash on a rifle. But I looked up the company, thanks for the fapping material anon
We’re all going to make it one day bros.
My suggestion is to find the rifle you like the features of and see if New England Custom Guns makes sights that would be compatible with your barrel (or receiver if you like peep sights) and find a gunsmith to install them.
I’m hoping Winchesters come back in stock soon so I get get a Super Grade to put a NECG front sight and Lyman 48 rear on.
It's funny I was looking at the Tikka T3 CTR and was wishing it had iron sights, that was the motivation behind this thread. Sako is good I'll have to look into that model.
Tikka sold the T3 tactical with iron sights to French law enforcement, but they won't sell that model to the public.
I don't understand why gun makers keep insisting on not putting iron sights anymore on their bolt actions, when it's clear that many people desire that feature and it's not hurting anything, even if you don't care about the sights and just put a scope on it and will never use the sights, it's not like having sights is an hindrance.
It's probably just a cost saving thing, but then again, it probably only costs next to nothing to add sights to a rifle.
Speaking of Tikka, the Tikka T3X Arctic has good adjustable sights, but the price of that thing is outrageous.
Other than a Tikka T3X Arctic, your best bet is probably milsurp Spanish FR8. It has CETME irons plus can feet with a stripper clip. Also can mount a bayonet.
>Spanish FR8
You're right but in my experience, those aren't very accurate.
There are also plenty of K98k that have been converted to .308 (Israeli Mausers...)
Most people actually don't want irons and plenty of rifles have their front sight sawed of and the barrel threaded for a suppressor.
suppressor > iron sights
Its literally just that pretty much every hunter just puts a scope on it, so why bother when you can spend the money on including a mount rail or threaded barrels or scope rings. Levers still have irons, but even those now come tapped for scopes.
People buy bolts for precision due to the great lockup, and an optic is outright going to get you that faster. People can be precise with irons, but there's a limit to the human eye. So for a sport that is all about 1 precise, humane killshot, you may as well just do what Winchester or Savage do and include a 3-9x scope and not even bother.
And often they don't, aside from the deer season package Savage Axis/Winchesters that go for about $300-400 which are meant to be literal "pick it up, buy 1 box of ammo, shoot a few times to make sure the factory zero is still okay, and go out and shoot durr" guns.
But you can totally buy them without. Most bolt guns are sold with just the mount... but a lot of guys buy their own scope rings anyway. But as crappy as the included 3-9x leupold special scope may be, it's STILL going to be more helpful for a starting hunter than an iron sight... and that's exactly the target demographic of the Savage Axis type cheap bolt gun. And if you're getting into more expensive bolt guns then you probably are going to be spending close to as much on the scope as the gun, if not moreso. But then that loops right back to the issue that to maximize the potential of a bolt gun, you need a scope.
unfortunately there really isnt consumer demand for iron sights right now. It is cheaper to just make it >optics ready and have a rail and threaded barrel that consumers want instead of putting on irons. Especially for a practical rifle like a hunting rifle people would prefer a red dot or scope because they are more utilitarian.
Between consumer demand and the supply chain bullshit Brandon, the dems and their leader Xi are causing it isn't worth it to tool up and produce models with irons for the small part of the market that wants it.
Case in point, I shoot high power with an A2 style AR-15 and bought a complete upper from Compass lake last year. A2 so it has iron sights. Compass Lake no longer sells A2 receivers, they only sell optics ready A4 receivers because of the rule changes allowing optics that went into effect in 2016. White Oak doesn't sell A2 receivers and didn't last year either. So if I ever want to replace my barrel I need to send back my upper to get the new barrel placed on or go to a flat top upper and an optic. Also somewhat worrying is that I decided to get the half MOA clicks instead of the quarter MOA clicks and I am not sure of I should go buy the parts to convert it in case I want it and they discontinue it
Just pick your poison, and have irons added by a gunsmith. AI, Sako, Steyr, or better yet a custom action with a quality chassis. What's your intended application?
I have only seen it in gunstores nice rifle but remember laminate stock is heavier. Very expensive rifle
I would get a tikka CTR and ask the gunshop to install iron sights
Tikka will not sell the irons individually. They are functionally unobtanium. The front sight goes over barrel threading and I don't think the CTR has the right barrel profile to line things up. The laminate stock is a bit heavier, but nothing that I would really complain about. You're not going to see significant weight savings from a synthetic stock of comparable durability and stiffness.

I think it’s been discontinued. Eurooptic has the 6.5 creedmore on back order
Tikka never brought over may of them and supply was always in rare batches that took forever for dealers to move. They still make them, but like the T3X sporter, they just aren't wasting any advertising on them.
Anyone have experience with the Tika Arctic? Is it worth the price? It ticks off everything I want in a hunting rifle, but Im a picky cheapskate.
I have the arctic in 6.5. There's plenty of reviews online so I won't go too into it, but it is a fantastic rifle. You are paying more for the brand name and the arctic specific features that you may not care about. I like it far more than the Ruger Gunsite it replaced, but you are far into diminishing returns territory.
God damn I want these for my CTR so badly. Too bad they'd probably run for more than the cost of a decent low-powered scope

Yeah. I did it because...i dont know why. Ive got to mill the notch just behind the threads to secure the front post properly but the rear sight is right on the dovetail.
See pic related. (1/2)
I had already removed the factory 0 moa rail that came on the ctr so the rear sight install is a breeze.

Pic 2, the rail is cut and installed on the rifle with room for the rear sight. I may or may not do the same thing for my ctr.

But again, if you're canadian and want to do this to a ctr like im doing theres a guy on cgn thats selling a front/rear set that he ordered that are surplus.
It cost me over 1k for these sights but i knew that going in. Im doing it for the love of iron sights.
When Nodak Spud gets back to taking orders (they got bought by PSA's holding company) they make ironsights for the Ruger American Ranch Rifle.
So you can have a modern bolt gun at a reasonable price with irons.
Which is what is in OPs picture.
Nodak Spud NDS55 / NDS56
I'm not sure that Mike is ever going to restart all of the Nodak Spud production, now that he's the head of H&R
right now he's committed to getting like twelve different types of retro AR-15 up and running so he'll be busy with that until the end of the decade
blaser, steyr, voere, sauer and any handmade custom from the gunmaker city of Ferlach/Austria like Hauptmann, Sodia, Scheiring or Hofer. but the latter start in the digit league.
Other than a Tikka T3X Arctic, your best bet is probably milsurp Spanish FR8. It has CETME irons plus can feet with a stripper clip. Also can mount a bayonet.
Oh really?....neat...i was going to buy one a few years ago but decided not to after finding out they induction fitted the barrels. Glad to hear they passed on that.
The 101 was, when they switched to the 100 they started using threaded barrels. I know guns.com claimed they were still press fit in a review but they got that wrong.
>What is the highest quality .308 bolt action rifle with iron sights that one can find?
The answer is Holland and Holland, I have to ask you "why" though? If your budget is less than $5k you're working for your money and this is an incredible pointless want. You CAN put irons sights and a bartlein barrel on a custom action in a custom stock fitted to your dimensions... but why? Why not build a custom rifle and put a nice scope on it?
Holland and Holland will make you one in 308 if you mean highest quality literally.
How much we talking?
35k GBP minimum
Frick, that's more Good Boy Points than I make in a year.

I'm hard
My dingaling went tingaling.
Oh shit they have a showroom in Dallas. I know where I’m going for my birthday.
Some Sako 85's have iron sights.
It's funny I was looking at the Tikka T3 CTR and was wishing it had iron sights, that was the motivation behind this thread. Sako is good I'll have to look into that model.

You can have both irons and a threaded muzzle.
Yeah but you can't use good suppressors.
Or you can mount irons to the suppressor thread and rear irons to the rail.
>Yeah but you can't use good suppressors.
What's the point of a suppressor on a hunting rifle? You looking into more "exotic" game anon?
neat. Succinct and practical.
I want it. What about Lee Enfield though? No love for it?

Alright. I give you that one. It is the big gay.

Either
Sporting or hunting? Normal or straight pull?

Why would you put an iron sight rifle in a chassis. I really wanna know.
Field of view and your head is lower due to the sights. That means less of a target/harder to see.
Think simo hayha.

Wrong. I ordered the arctic sights 8 months ago for my ctr. I just have to find time to mill out the notch behind the front threads.
Where did you get them, I can't even find them in the Tikka spares list?
Im in canada and had to go through stoeger, a major importer of firearms and parts.
And if youre on cgn, theres a guy selling a brand new set for 400. Frickin' steal compaired to what i paid.
God damn I want these for my CTR so badly. Too bad they'd probably run for more than the cost of a decent low-powered scope

The irons to the ra have been out for some time now
blaser, steyr, voere, sauer and any handmade custom from the gunmaker city of Ferlach/Austria like Hauptmann, Sodia, Scheiring or Hofer. but the latter start in the digit league.
ps: 5 digit league
TBF, if you go austrian custom, you would most likely want a break action.
highest quality production: something from Sauer, Sako, Steyr, Mauser and similar.
highest quality absolute: something custom.
the answer is Weatherby.

GA Precision.

https://www.howausa.com/rifles/walnut/
If you want something classic a Spanish fr9 is a really nice .308 variant of the k98k
https://www.savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&a=product_summary&s=57018
^ It’s obviously not high quality, but I love mine OP.
Dont forget the blaser r8
Steyr SSG 69 had them.
>first sniper rifle
>first composite stock rifle
>set trigger for 4oz trigger pull
>1/4moa accuracy
Shame they don’t make ‘em anymore. I cherish mine.
Piggybacking off of OP, but whats the best cheap .308 bolt action with irons one can find?
probably a tikka battue if you can find one
Mauser makes some high end stuff based on the K98.
Anyone remember what brand Prince Harry had to sell because of Megan?
I think they were Purdey & Sons
those new mauser rifles have the barrel pressed and welded into the receiver i think so you cant ever change the barrel
Only the m18 rifles are induction fitted into the receiver, just like the sauer rifles. The m98's are threaded into the receivers.
The Sauers aren't press fit anymore either.
If you want irons, you might as well get the sexiest thing around.
you couldn't afford it anyway, teenaged poster
Steyr Scout if you got a spare $2000 Usd
this better be a joke
I prefer the “irons” on the $7,000 FR-F2 instead.
yeah id prefer anything else that doesn't come with a flexible ass polymer stock for 1600-1700
You can always fill the polymer stock with devcon 10110
Hartmann & Weiss make nice magazine rifles.
Those would be contenders in the custom category.
TRG22 or AI AE/AW
